Why am I not surprised about what is lost on you about that game...

This is just a nonsense argument. The fact United missed so many clear cut chances due to shocking finishing is an obvious anomaly. Its not hard to understand! CR7 missed the entire goal from the penalty spot for crying out loud. Which he probably hasn't done his entire career.......

This is factually and objectively incorrect. Whoscored.com confirmed after that match United missed 7 clear cut chances over the 90 minutes of normal time.

Still more ridiculous arguments. Conceding one goal vs a championship side does not take a single thing a way from how you performed over all. Especially when their breaking of your clean sheet should never have stood in the first place. be serious please.....

A number of ya'll are just letting your anger at getting knocked out cloud your judgement about what actually took place

A chip from outside the penalty box is not "clear cut". A spectacular overhead overhead kick is not "clear cut".

A penalty kick (Ronaldo, not Elanga...no complaints from me with respect to the latter) is undeniably "clear cut" but we missed the penalty. Bruno had a clear cut chance, no question about it, but he missed that too.

It is a nonsense to argue that we put in a top performance against a Championship side and only scored one goal in 120 minutes. The serious argument is that our performance against boro was an improvement over recent performances -- and if this is what you actually mean but can't bring yourself to say now that you've been cornered I'm ok with that -- but the suggestion that we put in a "top performance" is laughably ludicrous.

What "took place" against boro is that we created only three clear cut chances:

    Sancho's goal. Scored.
    Ronaldo's penalty. Missed.
Bruno's shot on an open net. Missed.

The Sancho chip and the Ronaldo overhead were nowhere close to being clear cut. We created a few other half chances, but the misses were in no way shocking. The boro keeper was hardly bothered.

If City or Liverpool had put in such a performance none of their supporters would describe it as a "top performance".

    Feel weirdly optimistic about this
Good reason for it. Every performance seems to be slightly better than the last one. If we can create 30 shots , with the ever growing control, we should start winning these games with more conviction.

Is Cavani back and fit? If he is start him and have CR7 on the bench rested for the weekends game. And ready to come on as a substitute if needed.

Though it's important we need to get Ronny scoring goals again before the Atleti games, Ralf might try to play him in-form goal-scoring wise and try to get him a goal then substitute him out for Cavani in the 60th or 70th minute. But it's a risk we don't want him injured either and even though we think he's superhuman (he is!) Father Time waits for no man he's 37 years of age and just played 120 minutes 4 days ago not much recovery time to face such a physical side in Burnley.. So I'd start Cavani instead if he's back and fit.

Get 3 points or die trying. Winning every PL game remaining should be our only objective henceforth.

With Sancho playing well and scoring, Rashford playing pretty well and also getting a couple of goals in his last few games, Elanga has not put a foot wrong, I am wondering if RR might consider dropping Ronaldo and Cavani to the bench and playing either Elanga or Rashford as the CF.

What about bruno volleying over from 12 yards out when completely free in the box?
Rashford volleying over from 6 yards out?
Elangas header from about 4 yards out that he put straight at the keeper?
Bruno free header from 10 yards that he put straight at the keeper?

And thats just the ones I can remember. Performance wise it was a good performance not outstanding or amazing but pretty much what you would expect dominated made lots of chances should of won comfortably. Unfortunately for us it was one of those crazy FA cup games where the underdog somehow goes through completely undeservadly.

If we play like that against Burnley we will win comfortably. But that is a big if.

You missed a good chunk of that game if that’s all the clear cut chances you saw

Me after the match: Bloody ref, VAR is a joke, our team can't score, our defence is awful, Why cant we score from a corner?, Ralf is a fraud, I cant believe he got sent off.

Haha you just know it. Bloody Burnley at night in the cold and wet.

I still think Ronaldo is better coming in from out wide. he isn't a real NO.9 and can find more space on the flanks while being harder to pick up and man mark. I'd start him and Cavani

Burnley sold Chris Wood so shouldn’t have much in the way of attack with Ashley Barnes injured, so a Jay Rodriguez worldie to be expected tonight…

I dunno, that Maxwell Cornet is pretty good. And their new striker Weghorst should be eager to impress.

They just replaced their 1.91m Chris Wood with 1.97m Wout Weghorst - expect a lot of long balls coming in on our defense with their runners waiting for the 2nd ball

They signed an upgrade on Wood though in Weghorst, second highest goal scorer in the German league. The only reason they could get him is because he's anti-vax and makes regular posts about not being vaccinated. Most clubs in Europe now will only sign vaccinated players so his value was plummeting.

Yeah the signed Weghorst as well and have Cornet, just assume Jay Rodriguez will score a blinder he usually pulls something out the bag against us, then is benched for 15 games.

    Weghorst is taller.

And don't forget the 'usual' Tarkowski header from a corner!

    Dear Club,

Please buy someone who knows what those things at either end of the pitch are and what to put between them...

Seriously, I've given up trying to even predict which half of football we might be vaguely good in, let alone a result.

Should win, must win, very possibly won't win...

Waiting for United game to me is like waiting for a doctors appointment or an interview - just nervous, rather not be there, fearing the worst hoping for the best etc. Just zero enjoyment or excitement for me.

At my ripe old age I think I need to step away for a while and if we can’t beat Burnley tonight it may be as good a time as any!

At least my heart (and wife) will appreciate it.

I know that all of our league matches these days are essentially must win matches, but we really, really need a win here today. A response to the cup knockout with our full team, and to build some confidence before Atletico.

Yeah, I'm actually feeling weirdly confident about tonight. We need to get a win and Ronaldo to get scoring again. Our away support will be up for it.

Watch him play like prime Drogba against us and then proceed to be a big flop.
