This signing just proved that the club learned jack shit from Sanchez deal. If anything we're repeating the same mistakes again and again. Again stuck with an over expensive high ego player past his best and whom we'll struggle to move on.
Thankfully we gave him a much shorter contract. At worst he's only here for one more season, but hopefully he pushes for a move in the summer so we'll be rid of him

Definitely. Especially with hindsight. I was seduced by the poetry of Ronnie coming home and I thought we would get one good season from him.

Unless this is just a dip, we got about a third of a good season. And during the good bit we suffered several hammerings and sacked our manager (not his fault but not what he or we had in mind).

Nostalgia is killing this club. Hired shit manager because he is a legend, spent fortune on finished former player, refusing to sell academy players despite the fact that they are not good enough....
It’s even worst on MUTV and the clubs twitter, they just keep showing old Ronaldo goals and posting past glory’s. Totally living in the past, it’s been rinsed so much now it’s boring. We desperately need to win something so we can move on and have some new legends.

He is a liability.

He will leave if we don't get top 4, but he is the one costing us top 4.

Age has caught up and is the wrong time to be playing in the Premiership. He'd be fine in the US League or playing in Saudi or Qatar. Just don't have the energy and playing from memory. There's no excuse be should be afforded an excuse to him playing in a poor side. He's been getting plenty of chances.
He wouldn't. The MLS is all about raw athleticism over skill, e.g., running your lungs out. Ronaldo's style of goal hanging and hoping for the perfect ball played into him would never happen. He would have thrived in the Galaxy that had Beckham providing crosses, but there's no one in the MLS with the type of accuracy required to make Ronaldo's style succeed. Robbie Keane came over and won the golden boot a couple years in a row because he was a tireless harrier, Ronaldo would make it about a game and a half before fans booed him.

Sadly is not good enough any more to be a starter for a top4 PL team.
If we had broja up front for us today we’d have won that game.
The effort is there but the body Is lacking.

RR needs to be brave enough to bench him. He is more likely to be a match winner coming off the bench

I have followed him for most of his career and confidence wise I have never seen him like this. Yes he is 37 year and all but he still was finishing chances 2 or 3 months back. It's a shame how he is not able to score. If we really want to salvage something then we nees him firing soon.

bench him for who?
You have to laugh, but we've left ourselves with an over the hill Ronaldo and Cavani who plays 1 game every month

The Greenwood nonsense couldn't have happened at a worse time - we should have never loaned Martial at that stage. He'd be no worse than Ronaldo is right now that's for sure.

Agreed. We have found ourselves in a position where there genuinely is little option apart from a depressingly past it 37 year old to an almost passed it, injury prone 35 year old. There’s not even an academy prospect striker in the ranks that’s semi-ready for a step up. Just shocking squad management

Clearly struggling with the physicality of this league and it was a too big step for him at 37 years of age.

I wish he finds his form soon.

Think he needs a goal then he'll bounce back to early season form which is what we need right now.

Give Cavani a start, bring Ronaldinho on at 70 mins

If nothing else it will be a show of strength from RR. And while he is at it he could bench Maguire as well.
He done this wid week, cavani was shite, and is now injured again.

Hahaa! No way?! You can’t get banned for being a super super fan can you? To be fair, it was borderline insanity but also quite funny how tunnelled the vision was. She (assuming poster was a she) probably called someone an idiot for saying Ronaldo is in very poor form for months now.
I reckon she's walked to be honest.

Haha yes! I'd like to see how that went down. That poster was hilariously mental over Ronaldo!

Yeah Atletico conceded 3 today. Could be goals for us, but worry about conceding.

Historically games with Atletico have been low scoring, but neither side can defend well right now.

Has been absolute trash in the last 4-5 games. My old sentimental heart still loves him, though.

I think he can still cut it in Spain or France.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Yeah us not having a top academy prospect ready to step up is definitely down to shocking squad management.

His overall level of play is the same since his first game here. Now he's not scoring goals it's a lot more glaring and hard to glaze over.

Even in his UCL games this season he had an overall level of performance similar to how he's been in the league. The only difference is he was putting the ball in the back of the net.

Unfortunately his finishing has cost us, In fact it's cost us 4 points in the league in only the last 2 games. At the beginning of the season signing Ronaldo was a 'guaranteed' 25+ goals in the league and a title challenge, me and a few other posters here were insulted for having a hate 'agenda' when disagreeing.

We get rid of Mourinho in favour of the youth (Pogba, Martial, Rashford, etc..), bring in Ole, (United DNA blah blah) promote the youth, play our young players, then go on to sign a 34 year old CF and a 37 year old CF and loan out the 'young' players we persisted with Ole and sacked Mourinho for.
Then we sack Ole.

And people tell me I should be more optimistic about the board, we're moving in the right direction and finally have a decent structure. They haven't got a fecking clue. It's going to be another long 10 years.

All this talk of Ronaldo wanting to leave unless United secure CL is pretty amusing. In what world does Ronaldo think his performances allow him to make a decision like this. One of the top 5 players in history, but turning 37 this month, how much longer did he think he could play at the top level.

If he wants to play CL football, he might need to return to Sporting. But I cannot fathom a major European club taking him.

He shouldn't be making demands and giving ultimatums

This club deserves everything happening when you consider this opinion is what the huge majority of its fans think? The guy is 37, how can you attribute his consistent terrible performances to form and not age?
I’m not sure how to answer that. It’s just a known reality that at his age his minutes have to be carefully managed. Ronaldo cannot go 2x a week, which is what we’re facing over the next month. If we push him too hard, his form will drop.

I try not to go too hard on individuals but I already have done in recent weeks with Ronaldo… But even now after dust has settled, I am not sure I have ever seen a regular starter for this club being as ineffective and counter productive as Ronaldo has been in the last 4-6 weeks.

I remember towards the end of Ryan Giggs and Rooney’s time at Utd we were seeing a lot of moaning. But both offered far more than we are seeing right now from Ronaldo. They both adapted their game as age caught up but I am not sure he has anything else to offer us

Either way he will be starting most games until end of this season. We just have to hope he finds his scoring boots again…

Also can anyone explain why he has lost the ability to control a ball. His first touch is just awful now

That’s not down to age is it?

That's bad in itself. We need to hire the right permanent manager and give him the best chance to succeed unless we want another 5-7 years of nothingness and saddling him with a 37 year old who needs to play and is a tactical hindering is a problem. In fact it may even make managers think twice before coming (as would other issues we have). And then there's the fact that he's being paid an incredible amount too, and this is an absolute disaster from out PoV. Between this and our most valuable asset turning out to be a scumbag , it's a bigger hit to the club than we realize.

Best solution, if nobody will pay his wages, is to bear 20 to 30% of them and sell him.

No team in particular.

France is a very physical league, he would struggle there as well, he has no legs anymore, and can't dribble to save his life.

In the case of Spain, there's no way Real Madrid want him back, and obviously he isn't going to Barcelona.

He has nowhere to go, except Sporting Lisbon or tier 4 leagues like Qatar,Japan,MLS,Saudi Arabia, etc.
United is stuck with him, unless he asks for a move to Portugal in the summer, in case United don't get top 4.

He's still physically fit. It's just his finishing, passing, and ball control are awful.

Nothing depresses me more than remembering Ronaldo and Rashford will start nearly every game from now till the end of the season. I blame Ronaldo for being high maintenance, Greenwood for being a garbage human being, Cavani for being washed, Martial for having no willpower and Rashford for being Rashford. Most of all I blame Ole for mismanaging this attack.

Kills me when we need a goal and I see Lingard coming on. So now it's not just our starting attackers that are gash. The only brightside is by the end of the season there will be no excuse for who is and who isn't good enough to start for United. They all got to hide behind others being worse.

I’m not his biggest fan but I hope he can turn it around.

It’s amazing the difference a few years can make to people though. Despite the impeccable care Ronaldo takes of his body he can’t run anything like he used to. But the idea that he was somehow different never really held any water given the fact that he’s long been adjusting his playstyle to accommodate his age.

He has already smashed expectations by being this good at his age, just not good for United. Honestly it was easy to think he was going to be fecked when he slowed down but that didn't happen till he was 37. People thought it would come much much earlier.

For all the people expecting him to walk away, isn't it more likely that he will have an influence on the next manager hiring (and Ralf will obviously not be made permanant)? That seems more likely to me than the cafs progressive (and quality) manager dream coming true.

Are there any Ronaldo fans who were celebrating when he signed and now have come to their senses ?
I remember a deluge of posts about how he was gonna "win us the league" and belligerence when others pointed out that he wasn't good enough to bridge the gap to City.

Instead, this disaster unfolds, and we regress pretty badly with him and now look unlikely to even make top 4.
