I love him as a player, but I don't want to see him in Europa League, he simply doesn't deserve this.

He can still achieve great things in Champions League and I believe this is why he could be considering leaving us.
after the season we have had, he is part of that team so yes he would deserve it.
He is not above the team, if he stays he plays.

I'm more worried about him wanting to spend a year outside of the champions league, while he is still very capable and probably the greatest player in the history of the competition.

I would love it if he stays. His winning mentality and spirit is vital. Taking Elanga's latest comments into consideration, it seems clear that Ronaldo would be a great asset for our youngsters as well.

He will stay, probably be phased out slowly towards the end of the season before moving on.

From the level he's shown over the last 4-5 games though he deserves to stay. He's the only one who really wants to win.

If we are in the Europa League, he can play 38 PL games with ease. He doesnt need to play midweek games and I would hope he scores 20 PL goals.

I think he might stay for another year to 'help us get back to the top' then go to Sporting Lisbon for a season

I think he'll stay for a lack of better options.

I hope he goes, though. Clean break, move on.

Hey you shameless plagiarizing bastard, I already made one

Anyway I would like for him ro stay but ultimately its dependent on himself and ten hag obviously.
sorry mate. The mods contacted me and suggested someone with more sway around here (and pizazz) create the thread.

Just doing as ordered.

I think if the strategy in the market is to get promising young players with the right attitude it would be good to keep Ronaldo. Looking at how he has embraced Elanga, if that could happen to three or four more younger players in and around the first team, the outlook of the starting 11 would be levels above the current set of players at the club's disposal.

Great post, and contrary to what some people believe, I think Ronaldo will relish the role that you're suggesting - being the role model for the younger players

This. Especially since we'll soon be at bare bones in forward positions.

We need replacements for Greenwood and Martial primarily, so as long as Ronnie staying doesn't prevent those upgrades from happening this summer, then why not renew his contract for a further year.

Id get rid of Rashford before Ronaldo.. Rashford is stinking up the place while Ronaldo has been scoring most weeks. How is this even a question for the board.

To busy crawling to Pogba with a contract offer to even thibk straight.

I think he'll be here next season.

In which case the onus is on him to be professional when he's inevitably subbed and bench. None of the histrionics, head-shaking, etc. Accept that he's going to miss games, even big games, because he's at that point in his career.

We'll want to keep hold of him, and there's nowhere else for him to really go.

Surely the question should be ‘should’ he go, not will he.

This feels like when I found out he screams “sim” during his celebration, which makes sense since it’s “yes” in Portuguese, and people bastardised it to “siuuu”

If I were ten Hag I would speak with Ronaldo and tell him I want him to stay but he has to accept a reduced role. You can't play a 37 year old every match and expect consistently good performances.

If Ronaldo can't accept that, let him go.

who do you feckin think ?
Hopefully we will stay and if he does its highly unlikely he will be sent to the back of beyond by ETH to play on a Thursday night. His games will need to be carefully managed and most likely 1 match a week is the most to expect at his age.

I sure hope he stays, but if he is wanted by a team that has a chance in the Champions League, I would not blame him for leaving and I bet he would go. (no clue what team that would be)

Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, and of course Cavani, are all gone imo. Therefore having Ronaldo here would not only be a good idea, it would be essential for ETH, who could then focus on buying a proper striker to gradually work into the fold.

Hard question to answer. His wage is astronomical, but in a functioning team, I'd still back him to score 30 league goals. On the other side, he makes life difficult for ten Hag if things aren't working out.

Ronaldo is too much of a winner/narcissist to accept being second fiddle, and he would rather die than be usurped by another forward in his position, so there are just as many negatives to him being here if he's not performing or wrecked by playing too many games.

ten Hag will make his position known and I'm sure he's aware of the pros and cons.

ETH won't be able to turn down Ronnie's goal production, which as you say, will improve as the quality and coaching around him improve. Get rid of the rest, and buy Nunez.

Tbh in my mind, there is no hope of him staying if there is even an ounce of chance that a team that can properly challenge in the CL comes in for him.

If Messi was retired then maybe he’d stay. But with his ultra competitive nature and his age, I just can’t see him spending a season out of the CL knowing that Messi is only 15 goals behind his all-time record and could get closer to him and even win the damn thing with him having 0 say in the matter. He’ll be gone the moment a proper team comes in imo.

Carragher was saying yesterday that Ronaldo is a player ten Hag will get on with whilst he sorts out the problems orbiting him in attack and the rest of the side. I think that's probable, too. Makes sense because it circumvents the issue of 'dealing' with Ronaldo, but for me, this is all predicated on his fitness. I have no doubt about his ability, but his gas tank really will have to be managed well in the thick of a PL campaign. Biggest question is how many games can Ronaldo handle, or moreover: how often will he need rest to be in optimal condition?

I still don't have many forwards in his company, let alone better than him, and we would have to spend a small fortune for those players, which I don't think this is the summer to do that when that money can be used in midfield and defence (plus FB's).

I think he should go.

People have rose glasses on by the way he has played the last 2 months or so forgetting the largely nothing performances he was putting in prior to this purple patch against some of the poorest teams in the league and yes the team was struggling then but its struggling now too and he is performing so whats changed, probably the lack of 3 games every 7 days has helped this and yes maybe he could perform at a higher level for longer if he accepts a lesser role of not being a starter every week or coming off to preserve himself for the better of the team but we have seen how he reacts to this still at 37 so thats not going to change any.

I also think it will benefit the new manager to have 500k PW off of the wage bill along with the other players who are out of contract this will likely help us to rebuild in a more holistic way

He's been our best player this year. Do you disagree ?
