Sneijder and Robben were forced out of Madrid and they ended up flourishing for Inter and Bayern. Eto’o was used as a part of an exchange for Ibra and he flourished at Inter. Same with Sanchez being forced out of Barcelona and becoming one of the best players in the league for Arsenal.

How long are we going to say “but but but Di Maria” and use that as some kind of basis to not want to sign players being forced out by their clubs? Players are forced out by their clubs all the time.
We are not in the position to give half-arsed new player a place to flourish. the first thing we need to do is to create an atmosphere where the already existing players eager to play to their maximum effort not adding another disgruntled player into the team, and look at the list of players you mentioned, Sanchez had Wenger, Eto'o and Sneijder had prime Mourinho, Robben was at Bayern, they were at a stable place or had person/manager they can relly on. We have neither of those, yet.

Same, those wages too  Aren't we supposed to turn a page ?
And FDJ wanted to join PSG too... :nervous:

De Jong is good but lots of free options in the market today I feel we should be going for. No need to pay £69m when there’s that much free talent in the market. De Jong lacks pace
For some reason it's not showing me the white text.

He went by the name of Wayne Rooney
He is literally my dream signing. The kind of midfielder who will allow us to take control of football matches against the best of oppositions. I wouldn't mind cheaping out on other signings if we manage to get him in, he will transform us.

He would be a massive signing however I doubt it would happen. He would eat most of our budget. Also I still think we would still need to add a conventional DM.

Romero isn't tier 1 for Barcelona and FDJ doesn't seem to want to leave. Even if he did, will surely be a few others after him. All we have going for us (probably) is the ETH connection.

That being said, FDJ for 60mil and Kamara on free could prove a shrewd piece of business for us.

We'll have his former manager who by all accounts got a good relationship with him and made him played his best football.

For the management in United I guess this transfer makes sense (as long as we also increase his salary considerable)
He has got a name (seems to be a priority for the board).
No consideration made toward if he will fit into the PL intensity
He will most likely please the new coach.
We will have to overpay Barcelona to get him.
Guess this signing will show if we are going to change our setup or do what we are used to.

Can't say I'm surprised to wake up see my chips totally covered in piss, but its not over till its over!

With any luck the new regime has taken away Shrager's source and he's in the dark about the deal, that's what I choose to believe.

Seems to me like Barca fed this info to Gerrard Romero to drum up interest in a player they'd like to cash in on, but the player is set on staying put. Xavi also seems to want to keep him.

I only want players here who want to play for the club. Not ones who are only here because they’ve been forced out elsewhere. Even if they have previously worked under ETH.

This

€80m would be madness, he hasn't really set the world on fire at Barca.
quite the contrary, if they really want him to stay they'll put something like 100m+ seeing how much valuation for Rice. They paid like 86m for his service back then.

It is possible to be forced out of another club and want to be here. If he signs, it would be silly to think otherwise.

As much as i like him, something tells me he won't cut it in the premier league. Hope i'm wrong if the move does happen.

Obvious bollocks. It’s mental that after years of shite transfer windows, shite signings and shite seasons one Twitter rumour gets people erect so fast. Even if we signed Zidane and Iniesta’s love child he’d end up looking like Ali Dia after a few weeks in our shirt.

Thats the spirit! Clear sign of changes at the club, awful season practically over, new manager coming in, a reason to be hopeful and excited, naaah just carry on the negativity into a new regime

I know we have ETH and DVB but I’m not sure that FDJ would be a success in the state we’re in.

Lots of criticism that he has been good but not great at Barcelona and has struggled to find a clear role in the side. Regular subs at around 60mins not having enough of an impact on the game.

Have huge reservations about this one as a DM has to be the priority. FDJ would not work in the PL without one in my opinion.

I guess Ten Hag was a major influence in this. If it weren't true then Barca would have leaked it by now.
Great signing but we still need a DM

edit apparently Romano is back as a tier 1 source since Laporta came back into power so this could really be true

On the Barca forum

Anyway, why is everyone going ballistic on a rumor?

Getting back our money on a 20M a season dutch golden retriever? I'd say that's a good deal.

Hopefully we get someone else instead though. As I'll smash the TV next season if I have to watch Kessie as starter.

PSG will definitely come wanting a shiny new toy. Their midfield is anyways lacking.

Exactly. Romero hints that the deal has to be done before June 30, and this trivial detail adds the reliability, as Barca would need this revenue to balance their 2021 book ended as of 06/30/2021.
On the other hand, I don't see us having any remaining 2021 budget to close this deal before 06/30 . As a listed company, we also need to polish the book nice enough to present it to the Glazers.
To sum up, although this news sounds credible from inside source, the deal highly unlikely happens.

If, by DM, you mean a destructive holding midfielder ala Makelele, I would say the opposite is true - De Jong will never truly work with one!

De Jong is at his best as the first function midfielder. Ideally he has a defensively oriented player alongside him in a deep midfield pair, just not another first function midfielder. Someone like Vieira, Essien, Gattuso, Herrera, Khedira, Javi Martinez. Kante is the most complimentary player I can think of for pairing him with. Fred and McTominay would not be perfect but both would work I think. Reservations would be a pairing with Fred would be a bit lightweight and McTominay just isn't quite good enough. Van de Beek would be unsuitable. Would make it difficult to integrate Mejbri.
