Doing all this nonsense to commercialize the final with a ridiculous pre-game unrelated concert/performance, yet they don’t get the VAR decisions right. Why are we here exactly?

I assume the linesman thought Valverde played it through to Benzema, in which case even if deflected, he would be offside. Which from where he is standing, fair enough!

BUT.

Valverde clearly tried to play it the other direction, not towards Benzema at all, and kind of looked like he was trying to cut back. At which point one LFC player hits it back towards halfway with a challenge - which is by definition a foobtalling move - and it then hits another LFC player also performing a footballing action to go in the opposite direction to Benzema. It's a goal.

As with all ridiculously stupid footballing rules, it happens in a big match, then the update it next year to have it actually make sense.

Absolutely disgraceful, doing this after a lengthy VAR check, at a freaking CL final, with hundreds of millions watching it.

The "a football club owner who can't explain the offside rule" joke looks stupid now. I can't even explain it. It's changing by the games.

I thought for sure Konate got a touch on the ball on the way through to Benzema, absolutely 100% it did.
Yes. Konaté touched it. Fabinho touched it. Allison touched it. Three different Liverpool players - and not one Madrid player - touched the ball between Benzema losing the ball and getting on it again.

Because the law states that it has to be two players between the goal and the attacking player. It's just that usually the goalkeeper is further back so people sloppily refer to is as "the last defender", but when the keeper's come out like in this situation and is ahead of two defenders, then it's the position of the two outfield players that matters.
This rule is bizarre and appears written to bail out keepers who feck up.

Seriously, Valverde fluffed it, ball bounced off konato into fabinho and onto Benzema

Clear as day. I'm pissed the refs aren't in our pockets, but it was the right call. Speaking of calls, Tito Floren do your thing now please

Apparently by the rules it’s the correct decision. Got away with one there.

If it was a decision RM vs United, i’d understand(subjective as i am).
Because; When the last RM player plays the ball forward, Benzema is offside. And he profits from that offside position when the ball is riccoched(spelling?) off two pool players afterwards when he gets the ball. If i was a RM fan i’d be annoyed though, obviously.

I can only think he must've been off for the initial ball over the top. Surely the second instance can't be offisde? Bounced off two different Liverpool players.

Probably it's just that I don't understand the rule, but it seems common sense that that should be a goal.

Apparently since Fabinho didn't intend to play the ball to Benz it's ruled offside

So to be clear: the handball that put us out of the Cup was not handball, and tackling is not deliberate.

All those who actually understand foobtall rules, please raise a hand?

Let's just put it this way: if the law made complete sense, then it wouldn't be so contentious. If the law made complete sense, the vast majority would understand it and be able to accept it.

Law needs adapting...or even scrapping. Simple as that. Offsides are one of the worst aspects of the game. Even with the tech, they still can't get it right. It's too confusing for the players, the fans, the pundits, and so on.
