Window is not open until Friday
This has been explained, ad nauseum, on almost every page in this thread.

Clubs can register their new players beginning Friday. That's it - there is no other significance to that date. No club (including United) is waiting until Friday to start working on transfers.

Its crazy the amounts being thrown around.

Just not sustainable to rebuild in this manner.

We've surely got to go for players lesser known with potential, that won't cost too much.

Would also love it if we actually made an effort to sign free transfers. Like the rest of europe ffs.
Makes you realise what a fecking bargain City got with Haaland

Are you suggesting we already have signings sorted and we're just waiting till Friday before we announce the big secrets to the world? If not, what relevance is Friday?
Nobody can be signed or registered until Friday, simple as that. Doubt there will be much if any movement until the Nations League finishes next week.

Except clubs have made signings already, and more are on the verge of being made.

Friday is completely irrelevant.

This does have an ominous feel about it… we need to a top chasing the £80million players that don’t want to come here and start signing some £20-40m grafters to help us build a strong squad before we add the worldies

Midfield is the glaring hole for us. We simply must add one or two quality additions in there. The more targets in that position/other positions move whilst we sign no one, the more worrying it is for us.

The release clause...the haaland camp played a blinder.

But if rumours are to be believed, he has a 120m(?) get out clause in his current contract?

The man is a mercenary.
Nah. The man bid his time and waited till he's solid to move to the arguably top 3 best teams in the world football wise. Hardly a mercenary move.

Off course being the best in the business means money comes along with it

Choosing city over united is logical and the right career move. I'd argue that picking us is the mercenary moves.

Plus he could have pulled an mbappe but he didnt. So credit where it's due

Mbappe only pulled an Mbappe because they are paying him the GDP of a small country. Dortmund don’t have that capability.

He’s gone to a top team no doubt. I have no criticisms from a player perspective. How and why City have all that money and subsequent success is a different issue.

Andrei Kanchelskis made me fall in love with Unite
Pretty grim at the minute, eh. Liverpool looking like they'll get Darwin, De Jong at a standstill, Timber having second thoughts. There doesn't seem to be any deal really advanced to any sort of significant stage - that's not good. Not sure I trust our board to be working quietly on deals that we don't know about - we don't have a track record for that apart from a very few exceptions, and I don't necessarily buy that it's all change and we're doing transfers differently. Time will tell on that one.

We are getting the brief more and more that Ten Hag has to work with what he has and "significant funds are available". Doesn't exactly sound like we're going to go out and do a string of signings.

Was more alluding to the fact that he doesn't seem to want to settle down in a league for too long. Seems he wants to play in different leagues for a variety of teams.

Hence the rumoured release clause in his contract. Next destination probably real madrid.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
I suspect this is the summer the last decade of utter fecking incompetence from Ed and his crew sets in. 4 years ago losing out to Liverpool and Spurs for a top target was unthinkable. We went toe to toe with Pep’s City on a regular basis. This summer everyone we’re linked with appears to be having serious doubts.

If it costs too much to fetch players from Europe, has anybody at the club ever thought we should try to unearth talents in Asia (more like Japan and South Korea)? Clubs in those countries would not be asking a ton of money from any European side because they care more about what they can bring to the national team than the club, and we know how work ethic is strong with those players.

I was pleasantly surprised at the way the Japanese invasion at Celtic propelled them to the title. Those guys played as if they didn't have to adapt too much to a new culture.

A lot of fan/muppets are in for a disappointing summer, The top 4 clubs will only get stronger, feels strange not being called a top 4 club anymore but that's the state we are in. Just waiting for the Utd PR dept to call DVB, Pereira, Martial and Garner "like having new signings"

I keep telling myself either we are doing things right under the radar which would make a change for the last 9 years or more likely we are dithering around trying to sign someone who doesn't seem to want and losing out on players who are interested

City are getting stronger, I wouldn’t say Liverpool or Chelsea are right now.

Changed it to a more positive outlook :)

All jokes aside. My point is valid. To actually think Rangnick said we could need up to ten signings (pinch of salt obviously) i just expected more by now regardless. All seems very familiar.

they will both out spend Utd, Liverpool have gone in big for Nunez this evening
Yeah you might be right, obviously Liverpool look like they’ll have to replace some properly key players though, whereas Utd have lost numbers but not necessarily important players.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chelsea go on a bit of a spending surge though.

So maybe scouting for players amongst the big European clubs is off the list. Nevertheless, you can still find some exceptional bargains in the Portuguese and Danish leagues.

I thought I read ETH wanted signings in before pre season started so they can train properly with the club.

If that's the case we've approx 4 weeks to get all our transfers done.

I can't see that happening. It takes 4 weeks to explore signing someone, then another 4 to 6 weeks preparing to bid, then we lose out on the signing to a different club anyway.

I’m actually of the opinion that as things stand, top 4 next season is already out of reach.

Top 2 are miles ahead and both adding very good number 9’s.
Spurs - will improve agin under Conte. Added perisic and Torres seems likely now.
Chelsea - better than us but the only ones I can see is challenging.

With the info available it seems we want Timber and De Jong. Both are becoming drawn out and there’s a chance we don’t get either. Where do we go then? Can’t think of a midfielder available at a good price. Maybe Botman at CB.

we are so lethargic and whilst others Are efficiently conducting their business we aren’t credibly close to a signing.

Guess we will sign 5 players:
- One overpriced player (especially on salery).
- One has-been player with injury records
- One hail mary that is just not good enough
- One 16 year old big talent that might be available in 4-5 years
- One goal keeper (free) that will never play.
Only early signings will be the talent and the goal keeper.
This is like a meme post but you seem serious. Is it some weird attempt at being proven right if everything goes to shit or are you really this negative?

Meanwhile Liverpool are about to sign Darwin Núñez for £85M, whilst simultaneously holding onto Mané by rejecting a £40M bid from Bayern.
Just goes to prove how decrepit we are now, largely thanks to the current regime & previous incumbents. We live in different times.

This was never happening unfortunately. I’m predicting a shocking window personally, possibly a Moyes 2013 level of ineptitude.

I just have very little faith especially as our appeal has never been lower, the summer break being shorter and all our rivals having as much money as us to spend.

We’ll probably give Rashford a new deal and claim that as some kind of achievement.

The sooner we get players over the line the easier it will be to express any sort of positivity. Time’s ticking.

As said, the midfield is glaringly weak. We must be able to find 2 promising youngish players to fill that void. McTominay simply isn’t a skilful enough player.

Preseason starts in 19 days. I doubt we will get more than 1 or 2 signings by then. We operate at snail's pace which is annoying when we have a very important preseason ahead of us.

We haven’t a chance of top 4 if the board think our current squad is under performing and TH can get the best out of them with just one or two new signings. Short memories, we got stuffed by Brighton not long ago, I can see us finishing 8th if we are lucky

I would be happy enough if we can officially signing two midfielders (FDJ and Sangare) this month

The flapping on here is really something. Hahahaha

We could sign 4 players tomorrow and what would that achieve? We don't report back for another 3 weeks and that's only the players not on Nations League duty. They get longer.

We can't play new signings chaps until the games start so relax. We will make at least 3 signings for sure.
