It's a bit arrogant from Manchester United to brief Laurie Whitwell (of all people!) they think they have got De Jong in the bag. And the player wants to come. There's not a cat in hells chance he'd even consider us but for Erik you'd imagine. Highly doubt had we opted for Poch he'd have been willing to come to us this summer with no CL football.

Would you ever have imagined Liverpool signing a player like Thiago 6 or 7 years ago? Not a chance. The Klopp factor along with their success has been a huge factor in their success. Mane has mentioned repeatedly that while United were interested in him, he was intrigued by Klopp by and his project. I am certain ten Hag will have the same impact here with players ignoring the lack of champions league football to be part of a project to bring United back to the top. This potentially a very exciting signing and hopefully a few more to come.

I just can't see this happening so I can't get remotely excited for it at all. I'm a huge transfer muppet but I just can't get on board for this. De Jong does not sound fussed to leave at all. Even if Barca had to sell him, I can't see him not going to a CL club.
