Why are we putting up with the Glazers?

They bought the club legally. Blame the people who sold it to them and the league for letting it happen. The club makes the Glazers too much money for them to want to sell it for anything short of an obscene price, and the only ones who could pay an obscene price would be another oil state. Would you rather the club be owned by the Saudis?

I don’t think people understand how little the Glazers give a feck about the opposition to them. They needed police protection the first time they came to Old Trafford. The FBI looked into death threats when they first bought the club. If they can survive that they’ll survive any protest. The truth is there’s very little we can do.
Yeah sadly they have unbelievably thick skins

We always seem to have a decent kitty when it comes to transfers.
It is not the fault of the owners if we pay over the top prices for players that are not up to it.
Who hires the staff that are responsible for transfers? In and out.

Of course it's the fault of the owners, they micro manage everything. That's why we are so slow.

It’s pretty basic. Anything that would force them to sell is either a) illegal or b) would significantly harm the team and everyone at the club in the medium term. Option a) is a non-starter for any sane people and the more extreme you go in terms of option b) the more support you will lose. The other huge issue is there’s no guarantee the people buying us would be any different or better. So Glazer stooges like myself see the much lesser of evils course to be think they’re utter cnuts but recognise we still generate enough revenue to be competitive even with the debt and dividend payments should we be run in a competent manner. Any pressure that doesn’t harm the team but forces them to operate competently is great in my mind. I find it very difficult to believe this place would be fine getting home games called off constantly leading to point deductions leading to relegations when it goes into collective meltdown when we draw an away game or fail to sign the latest shiny toy.
Whilst you make some valid points about there being no guarantees over the possible new owners. If I was given a binary choice I’d take a relegation if it meant we were rid of the parasitical fecks for good.

We already have a big important group doing their best to get rid of the Glazers; the players. Another couple of years outside of top 4 and sponsors offering less and less and they will sell.

They won’t sell until the club reaches a valuation that they’ve set themselves. Even if the club goes to absolute dust, they’re just going to keep taking a dividend and wait for it to get better. There is zero incentive for them to sell until they 10x their money on a sale.

Then we are doomed then. Our best era has come and gone, TH or any other manager will not reach Fergies trophies. Too much competition.

Why would they be more likely to sell then? Like any business owner they will sell when they believe the value of the asset is at its highest. Owning us costs them nothing. The debt is paid by the club. So why would a few years outside the CL make them more likely to sell? It would make it less likely - because I’d imagine potential buyers for the price they want would be less. The irony is the ESL would have made them far more likely to sell to a buyer because the value of the club would have skyrocketed. And that’s why they won’t be selling any time soon unless someone offers way over price. Once streaming giants get involved in the EPL and showing all games the broadcasting revenue is going to increase hugely - that’s where the big growth money is.

Surely to God, by now, there aren't any fans left naive enough to believe the Glazers have any other objective than to asset strip the club and line their pockets?
What has to happen before fans boycott the club or take action? Relegation?
Sure they have their own agenda to an extent. But it’s not like they’ve given any manager after SAF a strict transfer budget or wage budget to work with.

pretty much every manager has had financial freedom within reason.

They’ve also hired some of the best managers available to them at the time in question (Morinho, Van Gaal)

It didn’t work out and they tried bringing in a previous player in Solskjaer. It wouldn’t have really been my choice but fair play to them for giving it a shot.

All in all I don’t think they are sucking the club dry.

And by no means have the bottlenecked the spending funds.

I disagree. If the ESL had have gone ahead the money they could have taken out every year would have doubled even trebled maybe. This would have been endless revenue for them and the selling of the club would be put back. Why would they sell the goose that laid a golden egg every year?

We make so much money and yet all I hear from journos is ‘budget constraints’.

That’s the thing that fecks me off the most as you can be damn sure that there are actual football people wanting to push through deals and are being told no by stingy feckers who don’t give a shit about football.

You mean our lack of trophies and performances are testing your support for the club. This place gets really busy when we’re winning.
I see your point but it’s more to do with frustration about how bad they are at managing the club. I don’t expect us winning trophies every season. But I would expect at a bare minimum for a club with the resources we have to compete. We have an advantage over every club in the league bare City. In Europe only 4 teams currently has more financial muscle yet we can’t even qualify for the Champions League.

Everything is wrong with the club and that is ultimately down to the owners. Lack of investment on infrastructure. Most clubs in England are now building bigger and better stadium and the gap in income is closing whilst United’s brand income is also reducing. The restructure of staff is merely internal promotions so we have yet more clueless staff in the most important back roles.

They have hired ten Hag and now we are after obvious, expensive signings again. Where are the lessons from prior mistakes? With such a low budget in context of a rebuild why would you waste £60-80m on one player also earning £350k a week? If he turns out a dud it’s the same situation we have had with so many players. We won’t be able to sell him. It’s about big name players and helping the Manchester United brand. After all Pogba’s brand needs replacing with a big name. Let’s not forget they were even willing to give that numpty a contract extension on £300k a week. Was that new contract based on performances on the pitch? Why was he even offered a new contract let alone one that gives him a payrise?

Our rebuild requires a spread of our funds to get in at least 5-6 players. We could have got Bissouma and Kamara, and still had plenty of funds left over for other signings.

Every single strategy the club is taking is wrong. We are the only elite club in world football on a downward trajectory and our fans seem to accept it. If the club can’t learn from any of the mistakes it’s made over the last 10 years it’s not going to get any better under the Glazers. That’s why I’m resigned to the fact there is probably no point supporting the club under the current owners anymore.

And what do you propose?

Not every Manchester United fan is going to boycott games all at once or boycott the game at Old Trafford.
Yeah, sadly this is the only course of action.

Personally I've resolved to avoid giving them any money. Can't see them caring though!

Well yeah that's the Glazers in a nutshell. We're going nowhere as a club until they sell up.

They don’t own the club because of dividends. That’s absurd. “I’m not selling for 4bn because I get 12m dividend a year” - they will sell when they believe the asset value has reached its peak and they get an offer to match that - this isn’t happening until the growth potential around media rights has been reached (or the ESL happened). That’s why Chelsea just went for the insanely high price it did to buyers who won’t take out dividends - they know the value of EPL clubs will go up due to media rights - dividends are irrelevant.

it struck me that the only thing that will probably force them to see is the team doing so crap for years and years.

then we have the irony of the same fans who want them out, wasting time moaning on forums because no signings are made yet and we are falling behind arsenal and spurs

We were a corporation obliged to prioritise shareholders in the 90s. We had the same owners 2006-2009

Highly principled football fans are forever unfairly distracted by trophies.

Budget constraints for United is being one of the top 5 spenders in the world in wages and transfer fees. Our constraints is that we only have +500m to spend annually.

Opposition to the owners fail because the ones who shout loudest are so married to the 2010 MUST/Green/Drasdo arguments.

Yelling “We’re broke and they’re too tight to spend” whilst we literally piss money up the wall and have years - is fecking ridiculous.

The owners and fans groups have let fans down. Owners have ignored us, fans groups don’t even try to hide treating us like fecking idiots

“We know of a secret person who wants to buy the club send me money and it’ll help. In the meantime all this money we’re spending isn’t real, we’re broke. That make you angry? If so I have some merchandise you can buy if you want you do something about it. Whilst you’re there on the site, why not donate? A true fan would. You want to be a true fan wouldn’t you? No true fan would be without this scarf. It all helps get rid of the owners. You’re not a Glazer apologist are you? Then why aren’t you subscribed to our newsletter?”

Actually no the only actual course of action that would work is terrorism. Obviously that is very over the top and not at all the appropriate response, but short of that nothing would work. Hope I don’t get banned for this as I’m obviously not advocating it.

So? Is that the best you can do?

Just look up how much we have had to pay in financing costs over the years because of THEIR DEBT.

I'm more disgusted by the fans making excuses for these parasites, than the parasites themselves.

Nothing can be done. If fans couldn't organise sustainable protests/boycot during the shit show that was the last 6 months, then it will likely never happen.

I agree with the overall sentiment of what you are saying but they also definitely want the dividends as they are essentially coming risk-free, and from loaned money (the LBO).

That's basically earning interest out of thin air. And I'm sure the majority of our shareholders don't mind them one bit too.

There must be a truly premium bid for the club for them to even consider selling and putting the offer on the board's agenda. I don't think the market standard 30% premium would do.

What’s your point? Downing is almost 38, Jones was 30 in February
Im not talking about the individual players ages, im using 2 signings made at the same time to emphasise just how long Jones has been here and how much has changed at both clubs since the signings were made. Downing at Liverpool feels like a distant memory, almost a different club. Barring his first season we've had an injury plagued Jones on our books since downing was linking up with Charlie Adam at Liverpool

Really your argument is about Jones getting contracts and that’s been done a million times already in the Jones thread

edit: i suppose you could loosely say “look how much has changed in 10 years” which is roughly Jones tenure

Even if United were shit, let’s say for another decade, maybe two, commercial revenue and TV rights will only increase over that time, albeit United won’t be the top earners but we’ll certainly make enough for them to take the £20m dividend, maybe more in a few years.

The only way they sell is if our value increases significantly and they decide to cash in and run with generational wealth, we’re talking tens of billions.

The only other alternative is we liquidate and they lose the company.

United being shit only affects the fans unfortunately.

Exactly. It’s got feck all to do with ‘not winning trophies’ for me - Utd have won trophies in recent seasons.

It’s about not wishing success on a bunch of parasitic, clueless shitheads who were given a football club and have no business being involved in football.

What they’ve done to Utd is disgusting - Ed Woodward ffs. Books will be written about this in the future.

The Super League attempt - which was their fecking idea… feck off away from the PL. How anyone could support them is beyond me.

So? Is that the best you can do?

Just look up how much we have had to pay in financing costs over the years because of THEIR DEBT.

Absolutely, bang on. But you’ll always get your Glazer apologist muppets like the poster you quoted.

Also, we DO know that public image matters A LOT to the Glazers - they pay a lot of money to try and control how they’re perceived, including having paid mouthpieces on every social media platform including this forum - so there’s no doubt that it matters to them a great deal.

They can be driven out.

I agree with your points and I hear what you’re saying but they’re totally hands off and only really want to be involved when money is being spent. They’ve appointed people in key positions that are fecking useless and run the club like a traditional workplace. Liverpool were in a similar spot until they appointed the right manager, and unfortunately we’ll also be in this spot until we appoint the right manager to wake the club up again. Until then it’s all about staying relevant.

Why would they asset strip? Doesn’t it make more sense not to kill the goose that lays golden eggs?
