Sure he is bang average and I agree he is a 6/10 but not a significant upgrade on McTom? Not sure anyone would agree with that.
I think he's a better passer and not as good competing for the ball. So while I think hes better overall I dont think it would have been enough of an upgrade to warrant signing him.

My honest opinion - this is City "going English".

If he wasnt they wouldnt sign him. But they want to bolster the English core and he's a player who can come in and do that rotationally.

For me he's a 6/10 DM and 6.5/10 passer and wouldnt have been a significant upgrade on Fred and McTom

How the hell are City able to buy players for such discounts ? I mean had it been us, there's no way Leeds would have agreed to sell for anything below 60 million. I know they are the champions and they have a pull these days with Pep as manager. But the fact remains that they are still an oil club. Leeds would/should have fleeced them for a lot more.

Not fussed about the player, but City got this done without it leaking out until it was completed?

So how exactly do Phillips and Rodri fit in the same team? Doesn’t seem very Pep like to have 2 DM’s.
They don't.
KP will need to challenge Rodri for a starting place. Pep plays with 2 #8 and it is highly unlikely it will change for KP.
Why are you all assuming he would be on the bench ? I think he would play in a 2 with Rodri quite often. He has the ability to be a very good b2b. I think his all round game is good enough to tweak his role abit. Pep needs that extra defensive solidity alongside Rodri. I think he realised the necessity of it in the season just gone. If somebody attacks them, they aren’t defensively that sound and are still quite porous against top teams.

We'll see. I don't think he's good enough personally.

I dont. And if Phillips was his answer to this then its laughable

He will have plenty of game time with the games city has next season and B.Silva/Sterling may leave this summer anyway.

Not getting into an argument. That’s just my opinion. Rice is a total nothing player. This lad is at least serviceable.
KP is linked to City for a long time so Pep has done his home work and identified KP is the player he wanted this summer. With the quality City has in the team everyone needs to fight hard to earn a first team place. I rated KP highly and think he will be a success in City. His playing style is a perfect fit for Pep's 433.

Pep did his homework on Grealish too. Sometimes he too can be wrong. Phillips will be ok for the role they will use him in: riding the bench. He’s a good enough player to play against the little boys when City are dominant but he won’t be starting the important/big games.

Of course he can be wrong. There is a risk for every transfer. For Grealish it is still too early to say he is a failure. He is overpriced that is for sure. It is up to KP to challenge for a starter spot. I assume if he does well in training he will play. Players need to earn their place, which is good for the team.

Bang fecking average.

But thats how much money they spend. They have rotation players who can start for certain clubs.

this will be excellent news for everyone else if it’s the case, basically makes him the Bernardo replacement

If he's worth up to 50m.

Then Rice must be worth, I dunno 100, 200, maybe even half a billion.

Replacing Bilva with Phillips.
One of the silkiest players in the league for an average scuffler? Nah.

For a player who’s always injured and pretty average when he does manage to stay fit?
I think I automatically look at it (and most other transfers) from the point of view if we were signing him it would be 60 million minimum at least just because its us.

Don’t see anything other than an average player in him, he’ll do fine jogging around midfield and passing it 10-15mtrs 100 times a game. Media will big it up that he’s the English Xavi but any sensible person can use their own eyes.

Well not really, because according to Bluemoon, suddenly Phillips is twice the player of Rice.

Clearly, its not true

Good signing one I wanted us to make. Hopefully I'm wrong and he flops.

Rice, just like Grealish, is worth whoever willing to pay the "market rate" set by West Ham. As of now there is no market for him.

Oh i get that. I mainly disagree with their view that Phillips is 2x better than Rice. When if Phillips had joined Utd for this fee, theyd have called him shit and overrated

IMO KP is more like a deep lying play maker and Rice is a DM. Not exactly playing the same role in the team.
