Apparently Mark Ogden from ESPN said this the about Barcelona recently “Manchester United found it difficult to deal with FC Barcelona because the club told them one thing & said another thing to the press/fans; they were then wondering which was the real story.

“We have no intention of selling him “
Yeah because we wouldn't do the same.
Do people not remember the whole Ronaldo to Real Madrid saga? We wouldn't sell them a virus, we've no intention of selling, he's happy here, he's committed, dedicated etc. He won't be leaving us.... shortly after "Manchester United accept £80m bid for Ronaldo"

You don't go admitting you want to flog your best players. That truly does make you look weak!

If he takes a wage cut they don’t need to sell

He will be the first player ever to take a wage cut to stay at a club who are looking to sell him and not showing him any love.....................absolute fannies about us these days.

Would you take a 100% cut in wages to stay a club where you feel you’re used incorrectly?

Yeah I don’t think that’s happening. Frenkie agreeing to cut his wage in half, no chance.
I don't think even a 100% paycut would cover it. At this rate, they're using their "economic levers" to pay for FdJ - a player they don't even need.

How are they going to pay Leeds and Bayern otherwise?
A 100% paycut would mean he'd be playing for free. He probably doesn't love Barca that much.

They didn’t stupidly sell their tv rights before now? Fans keep pointing to De Jong but De Jong can’t fund both Raphinha and Lewandowski so there’s leeway there somewhere that we aren’t aware of.
It can’t. But they cannot afford his contract increase which I believe happened on the 1st July and I don’t see how this new economic claw saves them for next summer continuing to be ran like this.

Could well be. But what changes on Friday?
Perhaps a better idea of what happens with Ronaldo, a couple of new signings over the line, Eriksen and Malacia…

A swap with PSG for Neymar… who knows but launching a new kit and this news coming out the next day makes sense to me to delay…

I didn’t think it was to parade new signings at the time but know it seems that unfortunately wasn’t the case

None of us are sure but there’s obviously some kind of way they can. I’m not saying this is a good thing for them, Barca are ran like a shambles and I can’t see why Barca continuing to be incompetent can be so easily ruled out

Oh dear.

De Jong is not happening, and now Ronaldo wants out.

This is going to be one long season ahead.

Anyone that thinks this move is off

Literally all credible sources that we value have all said the fee is agreed and the deal will be done soon.

What exactly has changed?

The point is both clubs have come out and said "We have no intention to sell"

That kind of statement doesn't guarantee anything
Has there ever been a case of a club openly admitting to wanting to sell their best players?
Even when a player comes out and says they want to leave, the club will mostly always say "We have no intention of selling"

It's just common sense really if you ask me.

In my opinion, nothing at all

Just Barca saving face and saying they're doing all they can to keep FDJ, but in the end, they'll say their hands were tied and they'll blame La Liga or whatnot for them HAVING to sell

Agreed. But they are a shambles. I don’t think they could last with Frenkie on his new wages.

You don’t make a statement like that when you are in the final stages of a negotiation. Either we are miles away from an agreement or Barcelona have changed their mind and just don’t want to sell

I actually think he will, but opposed to Barca we don't go bust if we don't sell him
We make a signing or 2, Ronaldo does a huge "U turn", and we romp into the season with the huge bonus that he's properly on board, and we have a magical season.

I can sees it now.

We keep saying this but they keep bidding on players. At what point do we actually admit they are able to sign these players in a way that satisfies all parties that we aren’t aware of or if it isn’t that big of a deal? It’s not like they’re bluff bidding here.
As far as I'm aware they already signed them but couldn't register them due to the wage cap. The TV deal didn't allow them to register them either. irrc they needed Frenkie's increased wages for next season off the books to do that.

You do when the supporters will be mad he got sold to Manchester United , so you plant the seed of the salary being the issue.

Guys, stop quoting Laporta on Messi. When he said that, he actually believed Messi would stay because Tebas assured him Barca signing LaLigas cvc deal allows them to keep Messi. But then Florentino Perez called Laporta and reminded him cvc deal will be for 50 years and it prevents their superleague. So Laporta had to chose between 2-3 years Messi and a bad cvc deal, which also prevents the superleague for 50 years or release Messi. He chose the latter.

Right now it's a different story. Frenkie has his Bartomeu contract which guarantees him an absurd amount starting this season. Way above the new wage limit Laporta's board set. Barca doesn't want to sell Frenkie, but they also want to reduce their wage bill. So there is a possibility to sell Frenkie if he doesn't agree to the new wage limit. But if Frenkie loves it so much in barcelona and he agrees to do without Bartomeus promised money there will be no selling. In terms of liquidity, barca needs no money. They will activate the 2nd lever and sell the 15% tv money for round about €400m which will take the pressure of LaLiga's ffp.

In the end, it will depend only on Frenkie. The negotiations between those clubs take place in case Frenkie decides to leave. No one can force him.

Even if he offered to play for free they'd still need to make money somewhere.

The whole reason it's got to this point is they DO need to sell and FDJ is disposable.

Ask yourself why it would have ever got this far if they didn't? you've lost your head
Im not saying it wont happen. Im saying they dont need the money from his sale if he took a wage cut since are selling tv rights for alot more than they would get for him

Just read up on what United were saying during the whole Ronaldo to Madrid saga.
We said numerous times he wasn't for sale and he wouldn't be leaving, and look what happened. What a club says, and what a club does are two totally different things

Thinking this myself. Can’t see why De Jong wouldn’t take a pay cut to stay since he seems to love it there so much. I think De Jong kills this when he reruns from holiday
Ya how I see it too. You can make public statements to pressure the buying side of course but the things being said are important.

Reminds me of when Dortmund said that they would no longer sell Sancho as we had missed the cut off and everyone thought they were bluffing.

Teams aren't going to make such absolute and definitive statements, only to turn around and do the opposite. Especially teams like Barca who are trying so hard to convince people they are back on track
I simply don't buy it because if their intention was to keep him why have they allowed negotiations for 2 months then including AFTER having the economic levers approved? That would have been the perfect time to tell us to feck off if they knew they had actual financial security to keep him
It's not like Sancho at all because Dortmund outrightly refused to negotiate with us after the deadline. Barcelona have been negotiating with us for months. Simply makes zero sense to keep things going then make a complete 180 at an unusual time

This is the standard Spanish playbook.

Pep or money.
Player parties too hard and not focused on football.
Player refused a pay adjustment.

They’ll say everything before admitting they are broke.

I hope you are right bud :(
Look at it logically.

Multiple T1 sources on both sides are saying this deal is either done, will happen or is close to completion.

Barca hasn't changed their mind because their situation hasn't changed, it has arguably gotten worse as his wages have increased massively.

Everything points to him leaving.

This seems to be the consensus as to why he made these statements. The Barca fans have known he was probably going to leave for fecking ages now and Barca's stance has always been they'd keep him if they could but understood they had to sell.

Why the sudden change so deep into an agreement? Just makes them look weak if they really had come to the understanding he was leaving

Anyway, hopefully you guys are right, but the stalling and lack of movement for a while is synonymous with our targets in the past who end up falling through
