This is already a huge fee for Antony. If Ajax turn it down, I hope we don't pursue this any further. ETH evidently wants him a lot this season. I still have some reservations for this sort of money. Pressure on him will be huge in the media.
I think what is happening is, for any value above 16m euros Ajax need to give Sao Paulo 20% of the money. I don't have access to the contract, of course. But that is what Carlos Belmont(Sao Paulo general director) said some months ago.

I believe £51million is €60 million which is a very good offer.

I'm so beyond caring if we overpay for top targets. The less spent on dividends and other Glazer crap the better.
It's quite rare for big fee transfers to work out, not just at Utd, but in general. It's not just the money being wasted, the player's performances are treated differently than if a £15m or £30m player gave the same performances. The only successful big fee transfer I can really think of are Mbappe and Van Dijk. Pretty much all the rest have been disasters. It's probably even worse for younger players. Far more talented and well regarded young players than Antony have moved for these sorts of massive fees recently and really struggled in Joao Felix (even if last season was an improvement on his terrible start), Sancho, Havertz and Vlahovic. I'd much rather wait another season and get Antony for about £40m when Ajax don't have to worry as much about all their other stars leaving. I'm not expecting any particularly impressive goal or assist numbers in his 1st season anyway even if he does join.

Combined with Ajax also losing many of their other most important players, that definitely makes sense in terms of why Ajax want such a high fee. That doesn't mean we should pay it though.

About €20m above what he's currently worth imo. I think £40m would be overpaying slightly, but to a reasonable degree where you can justify it based on potential. These sort of numbers are crazy.

Not to mention, the report says we're still well short of Ajax's valuation.

They might as well declare he's not for sale
If the demanded fee is true.

Ajax has sold too many I doubt we're going to get Antony.

I think the quoted fee is the absolute maximum I would have expected anyone would ever pay for him and if it is true and Ajax turn it down they are insane.

They certainly wont get a fee this big next summer. Bergwin has joined and they reinvest the Antony fee well if they were to accept.

Bruno is our second best player, if not best player. He will be in the team.
On paper yeah looking at individual quality but ETH is not Ole, in his system Bruno is kind of a square peg in a round hole. Could play him at number 8 for instance and he is going to effect the team in possession just what he does, there have been arguments about starting him at CF just so he could stay as far away from the ball as possible.

Is this reliable?
Tier 4 on /r/reddevils, he also has a gowl face on him though so.....no.
When he was in the Evening Standard, he was much, much worse. To be fair to him, he's gotten slightly better with Goal, but he's not been as good as Charlotte Duncker, who he succeeded. He's also Tier 4 in the Caf's tier list for this reason, which also means that aggregator Tweets are prone to misrepresenting his Tweets as we've already seen here.

Chelsea bound then. There is no way he fits into Tuchel's system, and Tuchel wont be able to freeze him like he did with Lukaku without a big fuss. Can't wait, really hope we get rid of him this summer.

If they want £70m for Antony they can piss off. What's he even done to warrant such an insane price.

Can't see that happening either. He either moves to a lesser cl club or stays with is

Bit worried about the transfer strategy we're on. It feels like the club did not have a single target in mind and are working entirely off of ETH's checklist.

Hope it all works out but I can't see so many Eredivise players becoming a success. The probability is incredibly low. At best one of Antony, Martinez and Malacia will work out.

I am sure he would have cost half that a month ago. The beauty of leaving things late
My favorite episode of «It’s Always Sunny In Post-SAF United» was when the gang decided for no particular reason to not sign Fellaini until after his £23.5m release clause had expired, and they had to pay £4m more than that.

It does sound stupid (and was to be fair) but there was some method to Woodwards madness if I remember right. We wanted Fellaini and Baines and the club thought if we paid the release clause for Fellaini Everton would then have the finances to resist any move for Baines, so we tried to do them both together and call Everton’s bluff..

I don't what is more disappointing, the lack of planning from the club of having a clear vision for the club on the field going forward or ten hag not being able to identify targets to improve the side outside of who he has managed or been up against in the Dutch.

The disappointing thing is that fans continue to believe the shit that gets tweeted out regarding our transfer business on a daily basis.
We've signed one player from the dutch league so far. We're obviously in for FDJ and he has to have told ETH he would come if we made an offer. Barca are in bad shape no matter what their president says. They need to sell and FDJ will be the first one to take the hit. He's just trying to make their situation look less chaotic given the state of their finances and players having deferred wages.
According to twitter and various media outlets, we were close to getting Martinez. Now ETH apparently wants Timber despite all the reports of him staying?
Antony rumors died down after the reported Ajax demands but now all of a sudden we're going to have a clean go at him for less because apparently Ronaldo is going to Chelsea?
It's all bullshit. The media get a sniff of us asking about a player and then it gets spun into a ton of rumors for clicks and ad generated revenue.

Ten Hag wants to implement his system as quickly as possible. A good way to do that is to bring in players who know that system or have played in a similar system before. I see no issue with it for the time being.

I don’t understand why that’s holding up the deal, they clearly have the money to pay him, so whats the issue exactly?

They cant afford to, so are very likely trying to pass over the cost to us

If they had any sense they would reduce the transfer fee by £17m and ask us to pay that to FdJ. But they don’t, so feck em.
