If this brief is literally true, United will know that and will walk away.

But this brief has been consistent all summer and we still seem to be willing to negotiate so either our people are stupid, or its bollocks.

Why are we always roped into these dramatic sagas
Click Bait. United are the most followed team in the world . Easy clicks

I'm tired of saying this but there is NO WAY that we have negotiated for so long and even sent Murtough and Arnold to Barcelona if we hadn't received assurances that Frenkie will make the move. It is possible he's changed his mind and If that's the case we will walk away but if not this is just posturing to get him his rightly owed deferred wages.
Haven't you heard, Barca don't want to sell, De Jong doesn't want to leave but United are still adamant that they can sign him. There is a reason so many ITKs get away with posting such BS and its because people don't even engage a little bit of their brains before accepting every tweet.

We wouldn't have gone near him without sounding out his willingness to leave. He has a long contract still with Barca. If they didn't want to sell it would literally be a non-starter as well. We wouldn't be talking to Barca for so long about this unless they thought that Frenkie was open to leaving as well.

If he truly did not want to leave and was going to dig his heels in and refuse no matter what, Barca wouldn't be wasting their time. They also wouldn't be splashing money on the likes of Raphinha because they have no money.

The only situation that makes any sense at all is that Barca are negotiating with FdJ on how much of his deferred wages they will give him to leave. Thats it. If this doesn't go through it will likely be because United walk away or Barca are too stubborn and refuse to pay FdJ enough. Either way, Frenkie won't care I imagine. He is the only party who really can't lose as long as he sticks to his guns.

Do people actually know what a brief is?

There are legal contracts involved. That’s takes care of the financials. He can stay and get paid if he wants. There is nothing to be gained from DeJong saying he wants to stay and in fact it just makes his next move, whatever that is, a more difficult proposition by having to convince his new team mates and fans that he actually wants to be there. His approach is not at all endearing or beneficial and would only really make sense if he truly wants to stay.

that said, Utd are obviously aware of Barcas financial situation are are just making sure they are at the top of the queue for him once Barca get nasty and try force him out.

Whichever way you look at it, this is no certainty and we need a viable plan b.

Even if we end up buying him, De Jong is going to be overpriced Anderson, isn’t he :|

I just dont think that FDJ and his agent are so naive - that they will go against the manager and the board, and stick to their guns which will create a huge problem for Barcelona (although they are in their right to do so) - and still expect to be picked by the manager
I think he knows he is leaving and is rightly playing hardball for the cash owed.

United’s leader's (Murtough and Arnold) have left Barcelona already and are traveling to Manchester for now without an agreement with Frenkie but do have one with Barcelona.

As many have already said. De Jong is prepared to leave and will have told United that he is happy to join. Barca cannot afford to keep him and need to sell. United want to buy. The issue is that he probably has a clause in the contract stating that if asks to leave he forgoes some / all the deferred salary payments, so he can't publicly say that and jeopardise the £17m he is entitled to. Barca are trying to play poker, but their hand is rubbish, and they will be forced to give in as financially they are pretty much broke and have to sell. They are hoping to flush out a higher bidder (looking highly unlikely), and potentially sign a replacement. Only a broken fax machine will stop this transfer from happening.

Very much looking like we're being taken for a ride.

I think in this instance the very nature or why we can sign him is also why it's a massive saga. Ultimately. De jong wants to stay, but this salary stuff is a massive mess and means barca may force him out. If there was no salary mess barca would happily keep him.

Indeed, the fans are. By lack of patience and over exuberance. Myself included! As soon as it was revealed Barca owes the kid tens of millions of dollars you know it's not going to be a quick one.

I don't think any of us can be know how this plays out and you can't rule out a messy lawsuit even. Would Frenkie tuck his tail and continue to play for a club that's done him so dirty? He's not Bale with several CLs in his trophy cabinet.

I’m talking about the “walk away” comment that a few posters have made this morning after a tweet. Is that all it takes?
Where have you been the last 6 weeks? After all this negotiation, nothing has been agreed with the player and as of today de Jong has no intention of leaving? What sane person would still be after him? It's not just about a tweet. You do know that, right?

With Ten Hag at United and VDS running Ajax something would be badly wrong if the Martinez deal ended up dragging on.
