There's a difference between not wanting to be at a club, and just wanting to make it work at a specific club. If it can't work at that club anymore (like seems to be the case with Barca), then there is nothing to suggest he wouldn't want to come here. If Barca had a future planned for him or the funds for him, he'd of course stay.

Di Maria didn't want to come to United, preferred PSG. He probably would've worked out fine if Van Gaal and him suited each other more.

Also - he is absolutely the best midfielder at Barca. Pedri is quality and up there, but is very young still. Also very different players. For Ten Hag, Frenkie is pretty much the perfect midfielder.
It's a shitty situation for frenkie no doubt I mean he has a life and will be settled in Barcelona. I'd be seriously annoyed at how barca have handled this if I was him. But I also wouldn't want to be forced to live in a new country either which it seems he doesn't want.

I just hope ETH can work his magic and get him settled quickly.

I agree about the defered wages bit, but he also has to convince his girlfriend to pack up and travel to Manchester with him, which won't be easy. However I am still hoping.
That's the "risk" of being married to a footballer. Sometimes you have to move.
Hopefully his fiance understands that. Their current situation is far from ideal.

Can you imagine the scenes once we’ve signed him, but ETH chooses to keep McFred as his primary midfield and loans out FDJ to Everton!

Got to say im a little disappointed we are paying so much for him.

57m was first reported but now its 63m base?
We're just paying some of the addons up front (I suspect most of that extra money will go straight to Frenkie). Overall fee is still around the same.

A player who openly wanted to stay at Barcelona and got forced out will be just another mercenary like Pogba. No CL the next seasons either and if you get a lucky 4th, round of 16 is going to be the highest United will get in CL. Average mercenary team. I don't know how United fans can't see that after 10 years of absolute failure and embarrassment despite throwing money around like they are PSG.
Imagine having United living so deeply rooted, rent free in your head that you make an account here to WUM

So the latest update is United and Barcelona have come to a financial agreement, but Frenkie is blocking a move because he wants Barcelona to pay his 19m worth of wages?

It's the clubs job and the leaders of the dressing room, if they have any sense they know the situation and the best thing that they can do is make him feel at home and appreciated. The same applies to Old Trafford, it's one of these rare cases where the fans have an actual impact.

So we had a deal agreed in principle, then the wage issues came up, Murtough and Arnold had to go there to finalize the deal with a new structure which probably addresses the wage issue.

United have done all they can. It's time for Barca to finally act like a football club, not 'more than a club', give FdJ his money and let him go.

His first interview will be interesting.

"So Frenkie, what made you want to join United?"

"Eh......"
Realised the financial situation at Barça was extremely difficult, let them know early that I would only consider leaving to join ETH.
Spoke to ETH multiple times, difficult situation, very happy to be here for this new chapter.
Excited to play with ETH again, we’ve already spoken about my position etc and excited to play where I enjoy my football best in deeper role.

Etc…

Basically you’ll get a much more upfront interview about what has been going on behind the scenes and you’ll find out FDJ has been a more than willing participant in deciding his future.

 It must be weird signing a player for loads of money that doesn't want to leave his club. Obviously they've now broke his heart but I do wonder how that will impact him mentally.
The list of players that dream of Everton is a long one... So I heard.

Barca need to just give him a percentage of the fee since we’re paying more upfront now

It's a bit different then your typically 'mercenary' signing if he's joining a side coached by the man he made his name with and played his best football under...

Robben became a world star after being forced out of a big club early on, it doesn't always work out badly

Frankie and his family will off course feel disappointed but after a time when the reality has sinked in they will realize that fighting with Laporte and Barcelona isn‘t in their best interest. They will be financially compensated one way or another and Barcelona as a city is still there in the future waiting for them.

Barca, just pay him what’s owed and we’ll get the “Here we go!” FDJ, Martinez and Eriksen can be unveiled next week!

Sure, he’s has the upmost respect for ETH and has previously played his best football under him. He’s informed his agent and Barça that Chelsea was no option as he would leave to join ETH.

But yeah, he’ll be so sad at not being at his dream club he’ll act like a complete shithead to that manager and his new club and ruin his own career
