If Barca put too much unreasonable pressure on him then he will be able to claim constructive dismissal. I don't know about Spanish law but in English law that would void his contract and allow him to leave on a free. UEFA would have to agree though.

For that reason I imagine most of the press reports about being chucked off the plane for the tour are not true.

They didn’t want dembele and basically told him to leave or he would never play again and lo and behold he was back in the team and played brilliant. Not sure if he has signed an extension or not, Wikipedia says not so far.

So all is not lost for fdj and not being wanted now, still hope he will be accepted into the squad again but would you want to after being treated like that by your employer. Especially when another offer is available at a club that will pay you and won’t ask you to take a paycut, it’ll happen by accident by not making Champions league.
In all seriousness I’m excited about this season now, there’s something about ten hag that makes me believe we can make top 4 this season. Think a title challenge is too optimistic due to the signing city have made and the fact we need to strengthen up front and need a cdm.

Looks like a brief considering Romero has FDJ news too.
And if I’m his agent I tell that scum bag Laporta and the Barca board to pay my fecking deferred wages. They’re in the wrong here and should be outed for that. Classless club, I hope they go bankrupt.

Poor bastard. Planned a wonderful holiday to propose to his girlfriend and instead of coming back to congratulations, he got "piss off, we've already emptied your locker"

Can't wait to see him playing for us

Barca only pressured Dembele a little and nobody offered to buy him under contract or as a free agent so he had to reluctantly accept a huge pay cut and Barca still won either way.
With Frenkie Barca have received €75m+€10m in cash and a chance to wipe out almost €40m in wages the most practical solution they'll get for a player now. In their current financial predicament it's cynical to think Barcelona themselves won't be very practical and as Suarez/Arthur proved if they REALLY want you out they'll find a way to get you out no matter the circumstances. Very hard for him to stay

Barca's accounts must read like the best fiction book ever. As for the agent he must go in with a vic inhaler in each nose and pair of PPE gloves as barca is stinking the house out.

They'll still have to pay him them, even if it means taking them to court for them.

Being reported that Dembele is on the same wage if all variables are met

Hopefully this kind of behavior from the cnuts at Barca has an impact on the next generation of players, making them think twice before going there. You have a player who has multiple times reiterated that his preference is to stay at your club, has deferred his salary for two years to help you because you are so fecking incompetent at managing finances and now you are forcing him out because you want some shiny new toys at your club. They can get fecked. Such a classless club.

Would absolutely love it if he did a Bale and refused to leave.
To be fair that gets stated a lot but Bale never did any such thing. He was headed out the door when Ronaldo and Zidane quit and was told to stay as he would be the key player for the team. The following year he negotiated a move to China and then Real changed their mind about the fee at the last second sabotaging the deal and the year after that he spent on loan at Spurs. In his final season there was no interest in him in a COVID market so he had no real alternative other than to stay.

Just remembering the meltdown in here after Laporta came out and said he's 'NOT FOR SALE' 2 weeks ago now they're publicly briefing about saying he needs to feck off all of a sudden

Fair play to the seasoned muppets who saw through it as a negotiation tactic and held their stomach together, especially with United never briefing that we were walking away.

These things are always a PR/optic battle as much as anything which is a boon for the papers while they push the narratives the involved clubs want to shape

Just yesterday we had posters here saying “just walk away”. Some really dont have in them to do muppetry.

The way Barcelona are treating De Jong is why I’ll always side with players when they take these clubs to the cleaners or make moves that are primarily motivated by finances. feck these clubs

Are there any reports or implications Barcelona are not going to pay the debt to FdJ? Surely that would be illegal.

Damn but how bad must it feel that a top player is having to literally be dragged away from his club to join us. Should light a fire under the arses of the players. United needs to be desirable again.

But players not honouring contracts is exactly same as Clubs not honouring contracts. Players do this more often from skipping training and telling media “i am slave”

Tons of articles have stated this. The total he deferred was 17M and he also extended his deal by 2 years so that they could pay him back over the next 4 years. Barca are trying to sell him and have been doing so all summer regardless of what they have said publicly and their stance is that as the money was pushed into future years on his contract they should not have to pay it if he leaves. His stance quite understandably has been that he agreed to that in good faith that he would remain at the club for the duration of the contract and be paid back and so if they are trying to push him out of the door they need to pay him the wages deferred. This is pretty good article that sums up how they have behaved, Raphina really should read this.

The Barcelona offer to Frenkie de Jong is an insult to both the player and the game (football365.com)

If they want him out and still refuse to pay the deferred wage, then i can understand why FDJ isn’t budging.
And he’s absolutely right not to. He’s due a big increase in wages now. If they want him out they’ve got to provide some sweeteners - or he’ll sit tight on his contract. Ball in Barca’s court 100%.

I’m guessing there’s a lot of variables!
I've searched a lot on Twitter no mention of variables anywhere by any Barca people
And the number of variables needed to cover a 40% cut isn't realistically quantifiable anyway

I hope the only thing stopping this transfer is the dispute regarding his unpaid wages. Otherwise it's borderline insulting how we've been made to beg for him to come us as if we're fecking Accrington Stanley. We've turned down much better players in the past than let's face it - a Barca flop - in Frenkie De Jong.

It's not that United aren't desirable, it's more that de Jong is at the club he always wanted to play for

Thanks for your answer. Surely they would lose in a legal battle. I now understand why FdJ is reluctant to leave without being paid what he's owed. I can understand if he forced a move he would likely have to forfeit any future bonuses but still be entitled to his differed pay. Would he also not need to be paid a percentage of any transfer fee?

The question is.. Will Frenkie be on the plane for Barcelona's up and coming tour of the USA ?
