It would be illegal, but I'd imagine De Jong will have to get in a long line of creditors waiting for payment from Barca. Having a right to the money is one thing, collecting is another. Are there any reports or implications Barcelona are not going to pay the debt to FdJ? Surely that would be illegal.
If this were an FM game, sure. Make a save file and try to lowball Barca.Barca want him to leave badly. We should just pay 60 and see what they say, they can't afford him to stay.
The assumption is that the way the contract is worded means that if Barca try to sell him they have to pay him but if he requests a move they can wriggle out of it. For months they have repeatedly said he is not for sale and he has insisted he does not want to go which appears to be both sides protecting their legal position and trying to make the other blink first. The fact that today we upped the guaranteed cash in our offer by 10M and now Barca are openly telling Frenkie he has to go suggests they have blinked first with a little financial greasing of the wheels by us and they are going to pay up to ensure the move goes through. Thanks for your answer. Surely they would lose in a legal battle. I now understand why FdJ is reluctant to leave without being paid what he's owed. I can understand if he forced a move he would likely have to forfeit any future bonuses but still be entitled to his differed pay. Would he also not need to be paid a percentage of any transfer fee?
Suuuuurree. Absolute nonsense.Tweet

Not done yet.Fair play to those who held strong throughout this and kept faith this would happen
Yeah i vote to ban these guys. We had several sources that confirmed EtH and FdJ were in talks and he was open to moving here.Tweet

I'll be worried about this when virtually anybody except Sport are running it. Hell, I'm not sure there is an angle on the De Jong saga they haven't taken in the past two weeks alone.Tweet

You only want to read the news that you agree with? American?Yeah i vote to ban these guys. We had several sources that confirmed EtH and FdJ were in talks and he was open to moving here.
Last legit update was that as a matter of principle he doesn't want Barca to keep his deferred wages.
He isn’t going to leave until they pay him the money they owe him.IF Romano's tweet is true then somebody in our club did major feck up
The @sport guys are garbage. It's like asking why I believe Fabrizio and not IndykaliaYou only want to read the news that you agree with? American?
He doesnt want too join us. He really doesnt
I am not talking about that. I am talking about his desire to stay. IF that part is trueHe isn’t going to leave until they pay him the money they owe him.
They keep digging, dont worryBitter sweet. Happy we appear to be getting the player, but a bit annoyed that we’re helping Barcelona get out of this hole they’ve dug themselves.
I'm like 90% sure that Sport reported that De Jong would rather play for Chelsea than Manchester United, had no interest in joining Chelsea and would only leave for Manchester United, and had no interest in playing for either and would not leave Barca, all within the space of about 24 hours. Are Sport reliable?
Counter brief from De Jong side?
Would be a silly stance to take, he could end up on the pile at a club like PSG, whereas at United he’d be built around pretty much.
Or it's a ploy to make Barcelona pay him.At this point if FDJ doesn’t realise his future isn’t in barcelona you have to worry for him a bit.
I do wonder whether he will take quite a while to get his head sorted?
I hope it sets into him soon, as a player and a person he doesn’t deserve this treatment
Winston Bogarde and Jack Godwell come to mind.Has a player ever refused to leave when his club has so openly tried to sell him before? If not trust us to be the ones in that scenario
Truly doing what other clubs can only dream of
Come on, thats really bs now. Why the hell would we bid so much for a player that is not open to move?Same old stuff... seems like we go round in circles day after day, nothing new, sources repeating the same stuff etc. Throwing shit in the hopes it sticks
Yes. He currently desires to stay because leaving would see his wages over the next 4 years reduce by 24m euros.I am not talking about that. I am talking about his desire to stay. IF that part is true
Lyon tried to sell Gomis without telling him that he was for sale, he then refused to leave when clubs agreed.Has a player ever refused to leave when his club has so openly tried to sell him before? If not trust us to be the ones in that scenario

Just when people were bigging him up again one negative tweet and he's useless againRomano has tweeted the same thing a 100 times. Completely useless.
