I'm concerned he does't know how to play football.

United fans on redcafe aren't half adept at putting a downer on new signings
So, basically we should ignore and not talk about any potential flaws a new signings may have so as not to impact the joy of our poor fragile transfer muppets?

OK I guess.

so why sign a 5"9 CB? I cannot think of many 5 ft CB flourishing in the premier league to my memory. I thought Ruben Dias was small but he 6"1

Nope. He is pretty bad with his feet other than shot stopping. Plenty CB can play FB its not that foreign.
It is exactly foreign for a CB to play a full back. It’s an entirely new position. And just cause Irwin was right footed and played LB doesn’t mean all right footed backs can play LB and vice versa.

This thread:

May as well be. The way some go on you'd think it's impossible for a defender under 6ft to get the better of a striker. It's not like anticipation, positioning, jumping, athleticism or any other attributes exist to be a good defender, you literally just have to be a big fella to handle the almighty Peter Crouch league

BREAKING: Lisandro Martinez has FAILED his Manchester United medical. Sources claim he was asked to complete a five minute run on the treadmill at the AON Training Complex but could not reach the start button.

From my understanding frenkie likes to get the ball from the cbs and go forward with it. He is not the type to just sit.
Yes, but I would think it more likely that he gets a role which involves situationally dropping alongside the two centre backs when building play. If he is doing that then Martinez won't be.

Having concerns is absolutely fine but I think the role of the inverted fullback will be key to maintaining a defensive balance in the event the opposition evades the first lines of pressure.

So I think depending on which side we're transitioning play from, will dictate which fullback will invert to provide a defensive balance. But it's vert important for the fullback to be capable on the ball, whilst also having the ability to help snuff out counter attacks.

In fairness we all thought signing Varane who is tall and quick, would be the perfect foil for Maguire.

So maybe a littlun who isn't quick will sort of work brilliantly.

We'll have 95% of the ball in all games I'm sure anyway.
