The thing that gets me about this... do you not think he could just get on a plane to the UK if everything is sorted or if he finally agrees to move?
People truly think when he's on the tour thats it, he can't come off it?
If he isn`t in the manager or club`s plans he`d be left behind like Umtiti/Braithwaite. Barcelona also wouldn`t need to risk an injury playing him if a transfer is inevitable. It may not mean a transfer is dead but it certainly shows we`re not as close as we thought

According to todays Eurosport, he doesn’t even want to leave Barca, just get the £17m he’s owed in deferred payments.

“Frenkie de Jong’s potential move to Manchester United is set to fall through, even though Barcelona have accepted a bid from the Premier League club. Spanish media outlet Sport reveal that the Dutch midfielder’s agent Ali Dursun met with Manchester United’s CEO Richard Arnold and the club’s director of football John Murtough and outright rejected their approach. The report states that De Jong is not refusing to leave Barcelona this summer, but “is firm in his refusal to go to Manchester United”. Barca are keen to sell the 25-year-old to raise transfer funds to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.”.
Please... As soon as you see Sport, just ignore it. For the love of god, just ignore it!

Sport has been absolutely DIRE throughout this saga, just seeing their tweets and utter fecking bullshit elicits a rageful feeling inside of me!!

He can still go and just sit on the subs bench or in the stands. Just because he's on the tour doesn't mean he can't return at any given moment.
All he'd have to do is hop on a private jet to the UK and it's sorted. Going on tour means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

The player doesn't want to leave. Mostly because United hasn't even competed for the big titles since SAF left. Leaving a team that hasn't been relevant for 3 years for another that hasn't been relevant for 9 years only makes sense if you are going to earn much more and are moving to a nicer City. But to earn about the same but have to move to Manchester and go to a probably worse team makes no sense. Also, Frenkie knows is only Laporta who wants to sell him for economic reasons. That Xavi likes him and he will probably continue playing. Gavi or Kessié don't seem good enough yet to bench him. Pedri is the only one who is definitely better than him in that midfield but he is only 19 and injury prone.

That would be amazing but very different players.
Agreed on them being different type of players, but if de Jong is a 1 of 1 type player for ETH, then the alternatives in constructing a midfield without him necessarily means a different approach. Putting Bellingham in the midfield requires a different player next to him than what de Jong would require.

Player also doesn't want to live because you owe him close to 20 million.

I hope we finally move on. He clearly doesn’t want to come to United - he must have some hatred towards us. Is he Liverpool fan?

Oh god, it's been one tweet, from an unknown person, stating what is already known to many, and the thread is full of walk away, give up, move on.

1... bloody.... tweet and we're in meltdown

Sport are worth a read, they tell you what Barcelona wants you to believe. So you read what they say and look in the opposite direction of their narrative.

So Barca say they've agreed a fee with United, then tell Sport that he wants to leave but doesn't want to go to United? Why exactly?
No one else is in for him, no one wants to come in for him... Chelsea thought about it then pissed off.

Barca are jeapordising their own transfer window, and people say WE'RE bad!

He loves Barca, took holidays to Catalunya with his family as a kid and always dreamt of playing there.

If he's forced out by Barca, he'll probably (reluctantly) leave, but you can be damn sure he'll demand his outstanding €17m of deferred wages/bonuses first. That's the holdup.

Obviously, the longer this drags on, the more likely it is that a Champions League club comes in for him and that when Barca do finally settle the deferred salary issues with him, he'll end up somewhere other than United. There's not much United can do about that, though - we just have to sit tight and wait for De Jong and Barca to sort things out and hope we're still the preferred (or only) destination for him at that time.

Again that would make no sense. If that was the case, they'd tell United directly and we'd back off.
The fact we've not briefed tells us that we're still in. So either Sport are lying for kicks, Barca are trying to destroy their own window, or de Jong's camp are playing some kind of messed up mind games

Why don't Barca pay the 17M of deferred wages to De Jong and be over with it?

What's stopping them from doing that?

Would that impact the salary cap imposed by La Liga? can't they write off the 17M as some sort of operational expense?

As seen, they can sign players and pay transfer fees, but their issue is the salary cap, unless La Liga told them that paying deferred wages earlier will eat into their salary cap, I don't see why they aren't sorting this out sooner and trying to come into a quick settlement with the player.

Look I know this is what’s been mentioned but I think he genuinely doesn’t want to come here.

No, it's really not to be fair.
If that was the case, with all these reports that he "doesn't want to go to United but will leave if needed" would cause a few clubs who were interested to spring into life.
No one else is interested. Chelsea was for a short while, but they've cooled off it seems. It's United or no one at this minute in time.

There seriously needs to be a deadline for us for this deal. If it's not done by next week we need to move on to other targets, it's getting ridiculous now.

I thought today was the last day that we entertain this transfer, hope we walk away even though it will be an absolute embarrassment if we don't pull this off considering how much time we have wasted on yet another pointless saga.

The problem is that i'm pretty sure Sport aren't the only ones running this narrative. The only ones that ever said FDJ is still open to a move to United are the British sources like Ducker, and they are probably getting their info from United camp... who get their info from FDJ camp... who are probably playing us and baiting a CL club like PSG

Thats your opinion, but i imagine it's an opinion thats been formed on news reports and information that the club wants you to hear.
Wouldn't surprise me if they're putting stories out themselves saying he doesn't want to leave... confusing i know, but it helps drive the narrative that he's not interested in the club, just himself, which is what Barca WANT people to believe

Just feel like we`re scrapping the barrel at this point if we`re being honest but it matters little since Utd have briefed they`ll play the long game

Yet they've given contracts to Dembele, Christansen and Kessie, have signed Raphinha and have deals in place for Kounde, Lewa and Bernardo.

We need to just pull out of the deal and see how serious Barca is about the situation, we're the only club in for him so just pull out and watch Barca crash and burn. Maybe they'll have to sell the land under the camp Nou to pay for and register the signings.
