But he's guaranteed to get his €20m if he stays at Barca for the reminder of his deal so what exactly is he trying to get and what is he trying to achieve? Why does he want that money NOW if he's going to stay and get it eventually anyway? What sinister plan is this he's trying to achieve by stringing his former manager along if you think he only wants to stay? All these questions seem too far fetched for someone only wanting to stay
He only wants it now in anticipation of a transfer to avoid losing out on €20m as would most employees in his situation.
Exactly this. We’re not leverage. We’re quite the opposite of leverage in fact. we’re giving an out to Barcelona. The lad probably wants to play for us, he just wants his money. This is why I think the whole ‘i love the club’ is a shite story. Yah he probably is a fan of the Catalans and then they treat him like shite he isnt bending over backwards for them

starting to feel this will happen last week of the window or not happen at all.I’d love to have him here but let’s see what kind of bullshit salary deferral scheme they will have to make up now to register their shiny new toys.

they’ll change their approach in January perhaps !

Frenkie still hasn't show any pre-season love on his socials since his return to Barca. It's still on boys!

I wonder what Sport has against United lately? Did their editors wife have an affair with one of our employees or something?
Seems like the hate for United is very real for them at this moment in time

I still think it happens. Hypothetical but I've seen that Barcelona want to sell Memphis for €20m(deferred salary) Ten Hag said we're looking at buying a forward and Mitten a while back said Utd and Barcelona have discussed other players besides FDJ.
Wouldn't be shocked if Memphis is used as a financial loophole to get this deal done

You know De Jong looks exactly the type of guy that’ll let his girlfriend suck you off and then pat her on the back for it.

No, I’m saying both are players who have said they want to stay but one club wants him gone and will do anything they can to help us change their mind and the other was Ajax who happily allowed him to stay.
It snot really the same situation
Barca can’t force him to leave. We are only doing this because FDJ is willing to come here. If he says publicly he wants to leave it will be harder for him to claw back the wage “deferral” he agreed to.

I know the club has done some terrible business in the past and some mistakes have obviously been made but I don’t assume that ETH is as dumb as some people seem to think. I could be wrong.

Seems FdJ is more interested in a reunion with Mathias de Ligt than with ETH.

At least if there is any truth in this article.
But Bayern surely can't spend another 80m Euro this season.

Such a nothing story.

Basically says a move to bayern would be difficult due to too many players already and financial limitations.

I mean they might as well write an article about FDJ could possibly move to the moon but it would be difficult as there are no football teams there.

He will almost certainly come if he cashes on those €20m (apparently, there is also a loyalty bonus which pushes it above €25m). But, if he can't get them, he is also likely to stay put and not move waiting for his big salary this season to kick in.

The problem for United here is that, by the look of things, Barcelona doesn't seem to be contractually obligated to pay him those deffered wages. They probably did say to us they will do everything to sort the financial issues with him (or convince him to join us).

Either way, this seems like a long way from being done.

I’d take Depay back if I’m honest as he can play as a fluid central forward now that he’s bulked up a bit. I actually said when Depay was available on a free I’d take him back too, if we could get Depay in for €20 million and that unlocked the De Jong wages fiasco then I’m all for it.

I agree. There are neither funds not needs. Especially as Laimer is very likely to join also from Leipzig.

No idea why these stories go around. They aren't even doing Barcelona a favor with the articles, as the club are desperate to get rid off FdJ.

Reportedly we are in for Laimer (will be around 30m € mark) so, no we will not go for FDJ. + Brazzo (Hasan Salihamidzic) was in Turin today, might be in Leipzig the next few days and after that he will go get Mathys Tel from Rennes(20-25m € ish) , so he would be to busy anyway. Sounds more like Barca trying to get some more € out of you?

Frenkie hasn't turned us down yet, at least to United camp. Maybe he's still using us as leverage to get what he wants from barca. We'll know it's over when he agrees a pay cut and work out a deal with the deferred wages. Then ETH will be stunned again.
What he wanted is to stay and play in the team and get paid what he’s due, preferably without being pressured to leave and give up his money. That ship sailed.

His second choice is to get a fair pay off from Barca in recognition of the wages he gave up by agreeing to restructure his salary payments and to move to another club who wants him and can afford him. We fall into that category but might not be his favourite option.

His third option is to stay at Barca, refuse a move, demand his money and bleed them dry while probably not being in the team.

Option 2 looks like the front runner to me. That being the case, I don’t see any reason to doubt that FDJ and ETH (two guys who know each other) have spoken honestly to each other. ETH could have been sold a pack of lies by young Frenkie but why assume that?

Hmm… Memphis back at United? Do I want that? Is that something I want? I don’t know…..

13 goals in 38 games last season as a striker, and massively outshone instantly by Aubameyang. No thanks.

It's not impossible. We did send Martial in Spain.

My immediate thought was not a chance I’d want Memphis back. He’s not good enough for Utd.

Then it dawned upon me that we may only have Martial as our only viable striker this season. Jeez…

Jaysus, this thread is like a raging dumpster fire, where the dumpster is at the end of a dumpster shoot and noones noticed the dumpster is actually on fire.

Obviously it generates lots clicks and shares, for the bantz.
Makes sense... must be one of these media outlets that think they're one with the current generation. Hell, I bet the ones writing the articles is the intern guy straight from college. More clicks and bantz = more moolah

This too makes sense... Martial you sly dog!

You wouldn’t have been around when a poster here made up a rumour about Kaka joining United and we all ran with it. Didn’t take long to see it in papers, radio sport news and Italian press

I’ve also seen my words reproduced in tabloids

they are just lazy buggers
do we still have the thread? I think I remember I wrote one or two fake rumours about it. It's a bit surreal when Sky actually ran the ticker on the it

If FDJ wanted to go Bayern, isn't a swap deal with Lewandowski the best option? The fact that Lewandowski is a direct purchase already rules out FDJ being interested in Bayern.

The media is just doing a 1+1=2 and linking clubs who either have the money or the style that might hypothetically attract FDJ.

That just means Bayern doesn’t want him. FDJ said he wants to stay at Barca …. They are like “…..no”. He said no to United: champions league issues. Player apparently says he will consider Bayern: *crickets* from them and as you pointed out, no association with Lewa deal. So then he’s “offered” to Chelsea .. but I haven’t heard anything from Chelsea in terms of interest. Honestly dk what to make of this

Chelsea is stocked in that position so why would they need to spend on FdJ? Its just people making crap up to fill in the dead space.
