You just know he'll cause some issues coming back in. Not an easy situation, hope Ten Hag deals with it well but it's not ideal either way. Best case would be to sell him off but nobody wants him. If he stays, he needs to be OK with being a bench/rotation player, as he simply is not as beneficial to the team as Martial is.

There were always question marks over how we'd handle Ronaldo this season, what his attitude would be like if/when he was benched and to what extent we'd have to compromise what we're doing in general play to cater to him. And so far this summer has only heightened those issues as now we have the additional factors of him wanting to leave and not having a full pre-season to fit into the set-up.

Don't particularly rate Martial but there's no way Ronaldo should be starting ahead of him at the start of the season.

So like Messi in the 11/12 season then basically - scoring in bunches against minnows and people still praising him.

And Ronaldo scored a game winning goal
against Barca at the camp Nou to end their
12+ game winning streak that season .
In 2011/12 season, Messi scored and assisted goals vs the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia. He also scored and was motm vs in the CDR final. And his allround performances even when he did not score/assist were typically great eg in the game Barcelona lost vs Madrid in the league (April 2012), Ronaldo scored the winner but if you watch the full 90, Messi was the best player on the pitch and it was his excellent run that played an important part in the the equaliser to make it 1-1. Ronaldo on the otherhand was anonymous and had he not scored, you wouldn't know he is on the pitch.

As for the match winning goal vs Barcelona in 15/16, that was pretty much Ronaldo's only contribution in that game. That season he was dreadful despite statpadding in a few games until after this classico (6th April) when he went on a goalscoring run.

Not sure some are grasping the fact that there will be (hopefully) 60 odd games this season. We need at least 3 striker options and I personally don't count Rashford as one of those - he's shown that he really struggles in that role.

I'm still holding on to hope that Ronaldo does end up finding a club. Hopefully he'll get more desperate as the days go by and accepts a wage cut to go to Atletico or Milan or something.

I'm at the point where I'd be happy without any sort of replacement as long as he's gone, can already see the circus that will happen this season and distraction it will cause when he throws his tantrums.

who would be your strikers in the squad? Happy with Martial, Rashford and one more?

I would be very happy without Ronaldo. We can implement a pressing fluid front 3.

Ten Hag has shown in the past he can play with a 9 or a false 9 so I am not too concerned if we sign another forward to replace Ronaldo.

Ideally we would replace him, I think we need 2 more attackers imo, the drop off in quality from Sancho/Rashford to our other wide players is terrible. But if we can get someone like Danjuma and/or Antony I think an interchangeable fluid front 3 can work.

I just think the negatives of keeping Ronaldo around far outweigh the positives, if he does stay can already see the drama come game week 1 and he isn't starting. With ETH we're trying to build something, unfortunately we don't have room for a 37 year old striker who doesn't run, wants the ball all the time and expects to start and play every minute that he wants to.

I'd much rather go in to the season low on numbers in attacking players but give ETH the best possible way of implementing his style without too much drama and background noise. I'm not expecting to win the league with or without Ronaldo so it hardly makes a difference.

The United management is waiting for Ronaldo to pull the trigger so they can then go out an get another attacking option. We already lost Cavani and mason. And to 'lose' Ronnie, we would be way too think up front.
My worry here is that it will be viewed by the higher ups as Elanga is there already as back up and Bruno/Eriksen can play as part of an attacking 3 up front if needed and not sanction any other big spending this summer. Which would be madness.

Martial has earned the spot as Ten Hag's striker, performing well this preseason while Ronaldo has been absent. Quite clearly Martial should be the one starting our first league game. The interesting scenario will be if Martial impresses in that first league game and keeps performing . Does Ten Hag drop a performing Martial to appease Ronaldo?
The man in form should keep the spot

I don't know if he's staying or not, but we'll always say that the top scorer in football's history with more than 800 goals, played in our team, and helped us win a UCL. That's something to be proud of.

Needs to go. Doesn't want to be here and we will be better off without him.

I`m not a big fan of Martial but he deserves the chance to be first choice the way he has performed in pre season, whether he keeps it up remains to be seen. Still think we need another striker as well, we are very thin if we have injuries or Ronaldo leaves or stays and plays the cnut.

I wonder if this surprising place is Atletico. Surely not.

If he doesn't leave, then I'd see him as a sort of a super-sub when things don't go that well, substituting Rashford or Martial. He is still an amazing goalscorer and his strengths are being clutch, aerial ability and tons of experience dealing in difficult situations and still able to find a goal or two. No need to conserve energy when playing only 30 minutes per game, just go all in and be superb during short timeframe on the pitch.

I can see him becoming a gamechanger for our team and actually, I think he'd like it. Still getting lots of attention and bringing home vital points.

I think he is quite idiotic to leave.

United are clearly building something - a CM and another FW and United are looking good.

With Bayern not interested, where else can he go? Atletico won't win the UCL and neither will any Serie A club.

For his ambitions?

Bayern, Madrid, PSG, City or bust.

Ten Hag must be livid he has to deal with a situation like Ronaldo's. Don't think Ten Hag that excited to work with a 37 years old static player, but hr needs to be coy and diplomatic as Ronaldo is a footballing great. :/

To be honest, at this point, with how all this has got into the papers, Ronaldo needs to go. He's become the butt of jokes. He'd be embarrassed walking back into the United dressing room.

Every player in there will have seen Mendes twerking for Europe and getting rejected by all and sundry. Ronaldo having to return to Carrington, tail between his legs, will be too much for his ego to take. Even if the other players don't say anything their eyes will tell him: You're only back here cos nobody else wanted you.

Remember when Ronaldo threw a paddy that one time and Ole then stopped dropping/ substituting him?

We cannot let a 38 year old run the club, no matter how highly he is thought of - that’s what got us into this mess in the first place. He needs to earn his place back in the squad.

Oh nooo, he is going to Arsenal!!!

By the way did we get any concrete news on what his "personal" issues are that are stopping him from returning back to the club? There are still people who are using that there might be some "genuine" reasons for him to be still in Portugal(I believe the only reason is that he wants to leave).

It has been 3 weeks and we are almost nearing the end of pre-season surely we must have had some news by now on what his personal issues are?

So Napoli it is then…we found the surprise team that he will be joining!

I assume we are still paying him his wages while he's chilling in Portugal?
Must be nice.

His personal issues are that he wants out - anything else would have been put out there into the domain by now - it’s all just a smokescreen.

I bet that he didn’t expect that most of the fan base would be happy to see him go. Most now realise that his goals came at a significant cost to the overall team - and I think many potential suitors have seen that as well.

His pride won’t allow him back now so it’s just a case of seeing if he can get a team that will take him. And of course there will be one.

Sounds like someone doesn’t want to be here and hence why are we paying his 500k wages instead of fining him £1.5m for refusing to return

Problem is that he will not accept that role as a Supersub. Plus at that wage packs he is on, it would not make any sense.
