Erm, no they won’t.
Right. They're literally one of the biggest clubs in the world, people said the same thing after Messi left and Barca better than expected. They're a massive brand. People always root for doomsday scenarios for the big clubs and they never happen. Barca will be fine long term.

People said the same thing about them last year. They're too big to fail. They'll be fine. Barca's situation isn't ideal but they'll manage.

Because of the the Roman sanctions situation, and the subsequent take over and all the fluctuations in the playing squad I’m not sure they are. It’s a pretty fluid and unpredictable club to join at the moment and that may put some off regardless of all the points you listed.
Chelsea have CL football, that is a massive pull for the best players in the world. Barca's front office have some people scratching their heads but that hasn't deterred anyone from joining them.
Never said he wants to leave Barca. I'm sure he'd prefer to stay, but life's difficult to navigate at times and all of this rancor does nothing but feed the agenda that we're some sort of professional backwater and every other option is preferable, when it's clearly not the case.

Barca's finances are a shit show and they're using a form of equity release to pay for short term success at the expense of what comes when the club looks to secure its mid/longterm future.

In fact it's not guaranteed, where their interpretations of contact remuneration is concerned, that going forward they've got much to crow about; they seem to feel that a revamp of the ESL might come to the rescue as they plot their ponderous route through judicial redress.

And players still continue to line up to play for them. They still have massive pull. Nothing is guaranteed, but going by Barca's last decade and United's decade its easy to see why players may choose Barca for now. And having CL football is huge, without it, it will be very very difficult to attract top players.

They played him in central defence as a second half sub?

"Tell me you want to kick out a player without telling me"

Frenkie's actually played as a cb a few times throughout his career at both Ajax and Barca.

In possession, it's like watching Beckenbauer there. Defensively, well, he's not so Beckenabauer-esque.

This reply has nothing to do with my post. They cannot buy back their tv rights and future revenue, it’s sold. Possibly 2bn+ of rights for 500m or so.

And no, anyone with a brain said the opposite when Messi left, I was one of the most vocal in the Messi contract thread bullshitting the idea that Barça would lose tonnes of revenue due to Messi and that he was responsible for much of their revenue.

Amazing. It's the dive in the sea that makes this transfer more likely because he likes to live on the edge. Signing for United is living life on the edge.

This "saga" (it's not really a saga as not much has been happening?) feels like it doesn't deserve 1000 pages. And yet here we are, closing in.

Frenkie is too friendly with two lazy sulkers in Dembele or Depay. So, a definite no, or something.

Why is it poor strategy to go after the one player that the new coach believes will ultimately transform our team?
As the club seems incapable of working on multiple deals so puts all its eggs in one basket for months - we will end up signing him anyway at full price but without him having any period to settle into The squad.

This saga is proof the club hasn’t not changed at all. Are we really still hoping this transfer pulls through? Any sensible club would have set a deadline and walked. We aren’t even get the player cheap anymore. It was meant to be £50m, now the agreed fee is near £75m.

This is why the club fails to progress every season. Spending inflated fees on every player. There is no excuse anymore as we have seen other Premier League sides buy decent players for much less.

De Jong is not the only solution to improve our midfield. We still have McTominay as a guaranteed starter which is a shocking position to be in going into the new season.

Can't believe this thread is still going. Every time I open it, 30-40 pages have been added, with no new information at all. Just people going in circles debating the same things and pointlessly speculating over and over again. This has to be one of the saddest threads I've seen in here since.........oh....last summer?

Should be locked until there's some actual news. People are losing their lives and sanity in here.
Ringing the bell?

Anyone want to take a guess when the first negative tweet of the day makes an appearance? Also how big the meltdown of it will be?

He's the best solution and Mctominay isn't a guaranteed starter at all.

That’s just a rehash of nonsense from earlier in the window

first part is untrue evidenced by the fact that we’ve signed 3 others

yes,ETH wants this player and it will be late. So what? Not every signing is going to be done in an ideal timeframe, the world doesn’t work to ideals 100%. That’s why on the last day you’ll still see multiple clubs making last minute buys. Otherwise we’d buy everyone in the first week and we could shorten the window right?

I'm still undecided whether I miss the old school transfer experience of newspapers and teletext compared to the now minute by minute updates of what the player is doing on a beach or having for his tea.

Well, I tried following advice from some here to be positive.... hasn't worked, has it? This looks dead in the water to me right now. Do Laurel and Hardy (err, I mean Murtough and Arnold) have a plan B or are we back to Ole time where's there's hardly a plan A

When was the last time there was actually any encouraging news on this though?
All I’m seeing is rumours he doesn’t want to come and that he prefers Bayern or Chelsea.

Doubt is death when you're a transfer muppet. Read through the last 200 pages on the Caf as punishment so you may attain muppet nirvana.

Old school any day of the week.

Because, even if we pulled this off, expectations and anticipation would almost certainly doom the new player to be underwhelming

ETH beginning to realise he's joined Barnum's Circus, not a major football club... :)
