I hope not. I’m all for adding new strikers to the team, but the last thing we should be doing is walking in Memphis.
He doesn't have an attitude problem and is a decent forward, he loves the club and even Mourinho didn't have a bad word to say about him.

Would really depend on the financial package. If signed on backup terms regarding fee and wages, I'd be on board

no-one in particular
There's also other sources that are saying Barca owe nothing, as how the deferred wages/contract was structured means that if he leaves, the money isn't technically owed anymore. So the 3.5m offer would be a literally a peace offering.
As far as I know DeJong signed a new contract once covid hit the clubs finances which had him earn much less than agreed upon before in that 1-2 years but respectively much more (=the missing delta) in the next 4 years of his contract - starting this season. So technically they don't "owe" him anything - but of course he would feel betrayed if they now sell him and he misses out on the originally 17m or so that he reduced his wages in favor of the club.

Well, it's 2:40pm and I've not seen a negative tweet yet... I wonder if Sport is brewing up a masterpiece for later on. Looking forward to that one!

There was a few sources. I read it in the Guardian but it's saying i've read 12 articles this year now so can't access it. It was also quoted in a Talksport interview - but not sure what source they were using.

Peicing it all together, we see that it's certainly the money thats the problem - and Barca either want to pay installments or a minimal severance package on what he is morally owed.

De Jong should not back down, and we shouldn't bail Barca out of the situation. They'll break eventually and either keep him on his contract (to be paid in full) or pay him off and get him out (most likely).
I said this ages ago. He restructured his contract. He’s not owed anything. It’s basically good will at this point.

It's a game of chicken now. It all depends whether he's happy to play as CB or be on the bench to get the deferred wages. He can do - it's completely within his rights, but he might get bored.

I'll pass on that source.

No reliable source I have seen has mentioned any numbers in terms of negotiations, not from the Spanish side or the English.
Ok fair enough. How about the Atheltic?

https://theathletic.com/3409041/2022/07/09/frenkie-de-jong-barcelona/

Next season, the Dutchman is due to receive €18 million of fixed salary, plus €2.88 million as part of his loyalty bonus. Add-ons are excluded. Looking to the 2023-2024 season, his wages could rise to €28 million.

Those increasing figures are explained by the agreement Barcelona and De Jong reached in 2020 to defer part of his salary to partially offset the financial impact of COVID-19.

Barcelona owe the midfielder €17 million in deferred salary payments.

Listening to Graeme Hunter’s (meant to be a La Liga Guru) interview on talkSPORT, he was quite adamant that the idea of Barca not wanting to pay FDJ is complete nonsense. He said Barca have got no issues paying him what he’s owed. The only issue is that Barca want to pay it in instalments over a period of time. Also, the fact that FDJ wants to stay if possible and fancies his chances at getting back in.
So we know that Barca are aiming for installments via Graeme Hunter. As you accepted in the above post you quoted.

We know that he is owed a minimum of 17m via Athletic, Romano and Marca.

And now there's a figure being throwing around of a 3.5m payment for him to leave.

But the conclusion that you jumped to was that it's nothing to do with money, we just haven't convinced De Jong? Barca are trying to swindle him either through installments or reduced payments (the sources are good enough to confirm it's one of the two). It's 100% about the money.

Good will on his part to leave. Otherwise, Barca will pay everything and lose the fee.

It is a fecked up deal though for sure.

Memphis is available and who else comes close for that price?

Scored a lot under Koeman, he is a different player now. Ronaldo can feck off to the desert.

Technically, you're probably correct. Morally though, those wages were deferred in good will and Barca have abused the technicalities. Doing so means the relationship/trust between player and club is near unrepairable.

So I don't get it at all when people are saying it's just that he doesn't want to come to Old Trafford.

I'm happy for De Jong to play chicken until he gets his payment. Barca are waiting for someone to back down, so feck em - let them sweat.

Yeah they’ll still owe him money I get that part. Obviously they can’t afford it which is why they are trying to shift him.

So yes a reasonable agreement will have to be made as it’s lose lose for both. Being as they won’t pay him.

They’ve got their expensive version of Phil Jones.

Fittingly, they started to play him as CB.

If Barcelona really are his dream club - which is definitely possible considering Cruyff's influence, then it must be heart breaking for him to be treated this way.
And these players took these deferred wages to help the club out, only for them to turn back and say feck off, get out

I said it the other day.
Buy Memphis for €20m, Barca use that to pay off FDJ, we get a back up versatile forward and our No1 target while Barca get 2 players off their wage bill
Win win situation for everyone
I'd take it to be honest. Memphis would be a good option until the next world class player appears

This is for all the real ones. The stayers. The holders.

I don't know where I'm goin'
But I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
Here I go again, here I go again

Though I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
'Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams :wenger: :D

I didn’t jump to any conclusion. I’m quoting what Hunter said. Personally, I’ve got absolutely no fecking clue.

I would get Depay over Tony any day in case Ronaldo leaves. What is wrong with the board? Feels like you guys basically have no money to spend this summer.
Fan of both, would be great competition for one another but Martial has more potential and is much likelier to sulk with competition.

So it could be as I thought all along, he actually wants to stay and we haven't convinced him yet.

Interesting speculation re Memphis. I’d bring in both Depay and De Jong with Ronaldo moving on. But who takes Ronaldo?

They’re called BLM, they some the rights to 49.9% of them and can buy them back. You haven’t a clue mate and it’s all good.
Once again, they haven't sold BLM man

They have apparently decided against it for now as they managed to bring in enough money selling their tv rights. But I haven't a clue? You don't even know what they fecking sold :houllier:

Have a read so you stop making moronic posts, making multiple moronic posts and not once checking out what you are talking about is not "all good", it's all "daft": https://barcauniversal.com/barcelona-no-longer-considering-the-sale-of-blm-this-summer/ and https://barcauniversal.com/barcelona-do-not-intend-to-sell-49-stake-in-blm-until-2023/
