This is worse than Vidal at least with Vidal we knew he didn't want to join. With Frenkie there's always this feeling of "maybe he just wants the 17m" and "we have Ten Hag".

Based on what?
Because even if FDJ does end up taking a pay cut, he wont be wrong, because he said at the moment.... so maybe he changed his mind. Its not that i dont believe him, I still post his tweets because he's a big name, but I dont think he has close connections to this deal. Very very few people do, if at all.

And of course, as soon as Romano gives an update that doesn't fit the doomer narrative, he's an unreliable fraud.

He’s maintained that line for a long time

The problem is Murtough is in charge now, say even if he gets replaced halfway through this season, the new DOF is going to have to come in and start from scratch rebuilding the footballing structure at the club if Murtough has failed to do this.

One of the main things the supporters of Murtough say is that he has only really been a proper DOF since Woodward left, before that he was only DOF by name alone(which for me raises all kinds of questions regarding his competency for the job). But anyway IF its true that Murtough has only really been doing the job 6 months, and that isn't enough time to get the recruitment structure in place which is why we are so heavily manager lead recruitment this summer. Now obviously we have no idea how much this is true and how much is speculation/ wishful thinking, but surely a new DOF would require the same time at least as people are saying Murtough needs.

So if Murtough isn't the right man for the job, then it will be at the very very earliest around the summer of 2024 and god knows how many millions spent before we even start to see the impact of a different DOF and that's if they were employed this season. So personally I would say that is very much up a certain brown alley if Murtough doesn't come through.
That’s still a lot sooner than it would have been if Woodward were still around.

The “proper DOF” stuff is fair enough up to a point. What annoys me is that Woodward’s departure date was known months in advance. Surely Arnold and Murtough could have got their heads together off-grid somewhere (obviously not a pub garden in Wilmslow ) and put a secret plan in place so they could hit the ground running as soon as he’d gone. Surely they would have been aware that the likes of Judge and the scouts needed replacement; they should have got a list of names they could start to approach the moment he was out of the way.

Why would you choose to cut your wages at Barcelona when you can stay at Barcelona on the wages you are currently on?

That is like me asking my employer for a pay reduction.
After having an offer from another company for more money.

Realistically what are the chances that Barca just say "screw it" and let him stay on his current terms? I'd say slim to none personally.

I think it's clear he doesn't want to take a pay cut, his preference is obviously to stay, but thats looking unlikely too as it seems Barca are planning to move on without him

If you watched the whole interview, his sentiments was pretty in-fitting with the doom narrative: Frenkie not interested in leaving Barca, Ronaldo desperately wanting out, all striker options rejected us, Antony close to impossible, other positions only viable upon selling players (no sign of any further outgoings being close).

These tweets are brilliant. There’s also the possibility that I could play for Utd one day and form a partnership with Eric Cantona but it’s very unlikely. Thanks for reading.

why does he get in ahead of pique or Kounde, or Biscuits, kessie, Gavi or Pedri?
I do think he'd still get more minutes than Kessie but not the others. Maybe he's playing the long term and waiting for Busquets to leave for America

He can. He has a contract. All they can do is bench him
While what you're saying is of course right, I think we'd see Barca get quite nasty if he refused to leave and refused the wage reduction

Fab doesn't know anything about this saga
That will never happen, because he is not on top of this saga, never has been. Unless he piggybacks on some spanish journo breaking it.
Did Romano shag one of your relatives or something?

You just go around saying he doesn’t know anything about xyz. Despite the most reputable journos crediting him. Bizarre

Where did he credit him?
Oh okay, I didn't think that was a major update as only the price had changed.

Maybe that would be an insane risk though, especially in a WC year. People saying he was chosen last year ahead of others are missing the fact that Barca had v few other options. They have Kessie, and Gavi is a year older, de Jong has shown no capability to play in CM where Xavi would want him, and publically they are clearly either telling him to go by saying you will be a Cb 3rd choice, or they believe he actually is a CB third choice...

None of them know. Fab and the other media people only get information via the agents or someone who is tracking the agents or club's transfer team's movements. They use this info to build the articles but the info is normally very generic and reveals only legally admissible details.

Those days there was a possibility of Catherine Zeta Jones sleeps with me, but it was unlikely.
Wow that's a blast from the past. Now I've got that image of her going under those bunch of lasers in my head.

There's no way that'll happen. He's too good and on too much money. More than likely he'd still play for the year and they'd try sell him again in Jan/next summer.
I don't think it will too. But only because I don't think it'll come to that. I think he either takes a cut or leaves.

Exactly, I mean Murtough has been at the club a decade and DOF over a year, if the scouts were that Inept he would have known that and should off had plans in place.
