So, from what I understand, the game takes place in Vice City and some fictional Mexican city, and that they're working on adding Liberty City and San Andreas to GTA VI too as one huge map.

I agree, I've always grown very tired of them ever since GTA VC. I always feel the same thing, that I wish they would make the perimeter of the game world smaller and fill it with more densely packed life and interactions. There's no need for them to be so big.I'm not sure I'm all that excited about a new GTA, to be honest. Back when I played GTA V, I remember thinking that the formula had grown tired, and that was 9 years ago. Fundamentally, the gameplay hasn't really evolved since GTA 3 and I'm not even sure it can evolve all that much. It'll just be more driving around while people are talking, pick up some people, shoot some people, ram some people and that's pretty much it.
They're still the best games in that particular genre based on the strength of their simulation systems, so I'm sure it'll still be worth checking out. I just don't find myself looking forward to these games anymore like I did in the Vicy City and San Andreas games, when they were basically the games that defined the entire industry. On the other hand, while it's a different type of game, RDR 2 showed Rockstar can still produce something special. So I guess I'll play it anyway.
I don't think it's the size of the city that bothers me, just the lack of meaningful gameplay activities. With RDR2 it's different because I find exploring the natural environments in and of itself interesting and worthwhile, something that never really works for me in urban settings. In GTA, the game world is just there as a backdrop, while it feels like an essential part of the experience in RDR2.I agree, I've always grown very tired of them ever since GTA VC. RDR2 got away with it because the west back then was big scale and empty but GTA's city's just feel big for bigs sake.
Ok, to reword that, it’s not the size of the city’s itself just I wish they would allocate more time to concentrate on filling the city with interesting things to do, people to meet as opposed to making the maps so big. If we could have both big maps and full maps all the better, I was just trying to say I’d forgo the size for more substance.I don't think it's the size of the city that bothers me, just the lack of meaningful gameplay activities. I think I'm the same way. I think a lot of the excitement and hype is simply down to the name recognition at this point. Because GTA V was just an OK game. I didn't play that game and think to myself this is streets ahead of anything else out there. It's just not groundbreaking in the same way as the earlier games were. The mission structures are stuck in the past (same with RDR2), and the gameplay is stiff and awkward. The world they created with RDR 2 was obviously spectacular, but talking strictly about GTA here, I didn't find the world they created in GTA V that compelling.I'm not sure I'm all that excited about a new GTA, to be honest. There is almost no chance it is out in two years IMO. 2025 is the earliest I would hope for and that is very optimistic.Read in an article somewhere they still expect it to be around 2 years before it comes out. TWO feckING YEARS!! Ill be balls deep into Hogwarts Legacy by then.
To be fair, both GTA V and RDR2 were pretty "woke' and anti-counterculture that were previous Rockstar games, so this wouldn't be anything new.Grand Theft Auto ‘going woke’ is a culture war the world really doesn’t need.
In two years it'll be 6 years since RDR2, which is a year longer than the gap between that game and GTAV. Not saying I think it'll be out in two years, but almost no chance is an overstatement. Then again, if they're serious about that culture change within the company and eliminating crunch, longer development times should be expected. Unless they dial back their ambition, which is something that Schreier article seems to suggest. There is almost no chance it is out in two years IMO. 2025 is the earliest I would hope for and that is very optimistic.
Why does this matter? Who cares honestly.Latina female protagonist.. no thanks
This, especially if there's life going on inside the buildings.More interiors is a good start. Gives the whole city more life if you can actually go in the buildings.
Still hate this video. To essentially complain about the depth of the RDR2 game world and the interaction with it is totally obscene. Not excited for it. Rockstar's shit is all very hand-holdy. Only took me a decade of playing the games and watching this video to realise it...
Plus given the unlimited money cheat they had/have with GTA Online then that is what everything is going to be geared towards again and I have almost zero interest in that.
I was talking about Shadow of Mordor the other day and I remember how cool the nemesis system seemed and how that would be a great fit for a GTA game or something in that style. Imagine if you were able to build up your own gang. Start from the bottom, take on other gang leaders, work your way up the hierarchy. It seems like an obvious thing to do.I think a lot of criticism with GTA missions can be made to most games, repetitive mission structures, especially true with open world games. Its usually go somewhere, kill, collect, follow, go back and sometimes all 3 on one mission... Just different characters and locations. Its true with Skyrim, fallout, GTA, assassin's creed etc etc.. what makes the genre is the world's building, I can't remember much about GTA V but the amount of things to do.. on the side, in the other games are great.
Too right, you need to go some way to be wrong for 2 hours and not even begin to pick up on it. YouTube video game essayists, particularly the "deliberately contrarian as a personality trait" are the worst.Still hate this video. I do agree that there are some faults with the game. Ones that a company like Rockstar shouldn’t be making. But as a world it’s incredible. The Witcher 3 world seems on rails in comparison, and there’s not many competing with that.Too right, you need to go some way to be wrong for 2 hours and not even begin to pick up on it. Apart from SuperBunnyHop and hbomberguy of course but that goes without saying.
A black woman as a character?! WOKE!
yeah im expecting they're just place holders for now, the truck in the 2nd clip and the back of the womans head in the first clip in paticular don't look great. While there diminishing returns on graphics nowadays that does look like it could be a DLC for GTAV.
The other caveat for that is it is an early alpha build and you can see a lot of objects have no textures on them.
Still I'm surprised that it's even this far along. Maybe it'll be a 2024 release.

Online co-op perhaps.I have a sneaky feeling this will end up being co-op, as least some co-op options available as part as the main story.
