No, they are treating him on a normal level again in asking to accept the new salary limit. Before that, he was spoiled by an unsustainable Bartomeu contract.
Laporta just wants to bring him down to earth again or ask him to leave. If he accepts one or the other or decides to stay spoiled, thats entirely up to him of course. We will see when the team is back from the states.
Amazing how Barca fans just lap up their Presidents words.

Ah, that explains it. Misunderstood Barca are actually responsible parents, trying to keep kids like Frenkie in line.

'stay spoiled'

he signed a legally binding contract ffs, incredible that your talking about being spoiled when your spending money like a lottery winner when your 1bn in debt, owe millions in deferred wages and still currently owe over 100m in previous transfer fees
He earns way more than the actual two times Fifa Player of the Year and every other star player in the club for that matter. That's the definition of having a spoiled contract from the previous board.
No one denies him his legally binding contract, so I don't know why it's being brought up 100 times. All Laporta and his board does is negotiation. Is that forbidden? It's ridiculous how you all fire up yourselves on the nerrative him being treated badly. He gets everything he is owed so far legally. Otherwise Dursun, his agent who doesn't like barca, would have sued the club weeks ago. But you can keep riding the barca hate train and outdo yourself in insulting barca on the false and klick baiting social media narrative that is so popular today.

Fabian Ruiz now being linked, IF true - either FDJ deal is dead or we are forcing Barca hand to get something done with the player. All good.

Fabian Ruiz a better passer than De Jong. Not quite as good as carrying the ball through the midfield, but overall, there's not much difference in quality between the two players. He'd be a fine alternative.

Not seen much of him myself but heard really good things. The fact he is in last year of contract may help, as Napoli owner notoriously hard to deal with by reputation.

If it gets picked up by the guys in England, rather than some random Italian paper, then it's possible we're making enquiries for other players, as you say, either to force Barca and FdJ's hand, or because the deal is harder than thought and United are losing hope.

Yeah agreed - apparently the journalist is a Napoli expert, so there may be something in it. Either way it's encouraging if true, that we are actually doing something about the situation.

Come on man. Fabian Ruiz is good but he isn’t as good as De Jong. With all things considered equal, you give any club an option to sign FDJ or Ruiz the answer is FDJ. He is just better.
Where did I say he was?? I would take FDJ every day of the week if given the choice, what I am saying is by being linked to someone else is positive to the situation because if the deal is dead and he doesn't come then we are actively looking at alternatives, instead of relying on what we have, which is not enough, OR, if the deal is not dead, it puts pressure on Barca to act..

If I were FDJ, what is there to negotiate? I have a contract that I expect my employer to honour. I did them a favour when the club was in need, and now they turn around and say Nah I’m not gonna pay you that. What am I a mug?

Do they really? Or they just want him to lower his wages?
I think they want him off the books and want the transfer fee. They might settle for reducing his wage but it doesn’t look like he is key to their plans. My guess (just a guess, obviously) is they will lowball him far below his worth and leave him with no practical choice but to go.

Beginning to think Barcelonas attitude is feck it, we're in so much debt as it is we may as well keep spending as it makes no difference to how fecked we are in the long term
They need to win CL and basically everything the next 5 years, and they are counting on it.

It feels as though de Jong and Laporta are playing chicken in public. I think they both know he’s leaving but who gives in first.
Surely if that's the case Whitwell, Ducker & co would talk up this deal a lot more

This is dead. Move on
I used to think that, but i came to the
conclusion that it is unlikely to be dead.

Barcelona cannot afford FDJ and are publically bullying him get him to sign a new contract and reduce his wages, which he does not want to do. There's no way the saga has finished.

While this is going on, United are doing the right thing: biding their time and being patient, and holding cards close to their chest. We have signed Eriksen, Malacia and Lisandro in the meantime. I imagine that alternatives are being worked on too.

United have moved on from targets quickly and decisively already this summer. If they haven't moved on from FDJ yet it is because they know something that we do not.

In terms of prospective transfers, I'd give De Jong the edge as he's worked with ten Hag before and the manager will be able to get the best out of him. Overall though, I can't really agree - there's not much between the two players in my view (admittedly, I'm probably not quite as big of a De Jong fan as some others on here seemingly are - I think he's merely 'very good').

You can't scare me. I've signed a contract that states i'll not be here on September 1st if Frenkie isn't
So, any specific plans on what to do with your last month as a poster on this forum?

We've been anything but quick and decisive though?

Even Ten Hag thinks that by all accounts.

He isn't really an alternative to de Jong, he is a different player we can take, he is not at all in the same class as de Jong, nor does he strictly speaking have the same playstyle other than he picks the ball in midfield off defenders, the difference in quality is huge, but if we are seeking a player as an alternative option he would be a possibility. As people have mentioned though if you think getting FdJ away from Barca has been difficult, wait until you try and get players from Napoli, especially when Koulibaly just left. If we can get him it will be a similar deadline day deal, with the Caf going into suicide watch.

Ruiz is much less defensive than de Jong, and won't drop into the CB role as cover when say Lisandro steps out, he definitely is not a defensive screen, plays more like Xavi than Busquets.

So to everyone who says deal is dead where is the walking away brief then, only need to look at Timber to see that we still do that.

Virtually done it with Antony to, once we know the position of Ajax and that he is not really for sale we have all but walked away from interest and noone is suggesting it any more.
