I'm past caring.

When did we decide we were fine with waiting it out for decisions from a club that doesn't want to honour contracts + a player that is clearly not that bothered to come to us?

Such a shame we made it so clear we would wait to the very last minute if needs be. Upside is we could reclaim some dignity with a last minute broken fax or something. Egg all over their faces, wankers.

But no, we will meekly finally get our man two months too late and many on here will celebrate like we have won the World Cup. I very much doubt he is worth it.
He’s going to be a game changer. I’m so glad Erik is making us wait until it’s literally impossible. The man knows he will transform us.

He is definitely worth it because Erik will know exactly how to use him, definitely the centre piece of our midfield rebuild.

I know people find it hard to believe but eventually we won't be starting the deadly duo every week. Unfortunately it's going to take time for it to become reality.
Problem is I'm starting to wonder whether ETH has the foggiest about what it takes to compete in the Premier League. You just can't sit around waiting for your centrepiece like this, too many ways it can go wrong and no wriggle room whatsoever.

Can anyone explain to me why City wouldn't get the bloke as part of the Bernardo deal? It's a no-brainer for all involved.

And no, this is not me getting nervous about rivals. Last year I actually wanted them to sign Ronaldo and crash and burn with him.

2 months too late? 3 years down the line will we care if it was August or June?

Yeah be amazing to have one of the best midfielders in the league at this club again, however still many hurdles and problems to overcome as outlined by Ducker on Fri

It's amazing and huge if he pulls it off and the player comes. However, the criticism that he and the club will receive if the player doesn't come is going to be equally as huge. Will be completely warranted, too. We are almost pinning our entire window (and therefore season) on a situation that is completely out of our control.

I'm nervous because I want it done. But I'm realistic in that there is still a strong possibility that he doesn't come. We had a terrible season last year and need rebuilding. Frenkie isn't going to be walking into a team that's challenging for the Champions League or even a team challenging for the title.

Just want it done now so that we can move on.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
I appreciate that is likely nonsense, but I do have a question about the wages we are paying our new signings.

Let's say (for the sake of argument) we offer De Jong 300k a week.

Given we are not in the CL, would that wage represent 75% of the total amount he would get if, next year, we are back in the CL? So his 100% wage would be 400k? Or do you think we would offer 300k and only pay him 75% of that this year?

We are all too positive and convinced he will be the dog's bollocks when he has spent the last few years being rather average. Different system, yadda yadda, still average.

450k + paying the 17M? No way he is worth it, let alone the precedent.

It is ONE transfer. A fair share of them go wrong for whatever reasons. Exhibit A: Sancho after two summers of chasing him. All eggs, one basket. We lost the plot in the Fellaini summer and still searching for it.

Really hope this is bs.
We are always being played for mugs.
TBH seems like we're putting all eggs in one basket ("De Jong or nobody"), so it certainly seems possible we will bend over on deadline day.
Another factor obviously if Barca can afford de Jong to stay on current terms. I don't know.

I’d prefer us to cave now rather than deadline day just so we can get him integrated into the team faster.

Average in the wrong position, and still Barca’s second best player after Messi before last season. They play him too far forwards.

His performances for the Netherlands in his proper position is what we’ll be getting. Phenomenal stuff.

I don’t think the criticism would be justified, though. We are looking for a very specific player. Only Verratti and Arthur offer what Frenkie does so if we can’t get him, there isn’t anyone else. That’s why ten Hag said if he can’t get his man, he will have to develop the type of cm he wants here. That’s why he’s going to cost so much - this type of player is so rare.

Fair enough, although I have concerns giving huge salary to a player who isn't commited (possibly, I wouldn't know, but there are rumours he doesn't want to join United).
I just don't know, will trust ETH on this one. High risk high reward transfers (Pogba, Varane, Ronaldo) don't work for us, so I'm sceptical though.

Robben (screwed over by Kenyon)

Essien (Fergie looking at different sort of midfielder, hence move for Carrick)

Mikel (farce)

Hazard (unwilling to pay agent fees)

Fabregas (Wild goose chase)

Morata (smokescreen for Lukaku)

Niguez (bullet dodged)

Kovacic (never concrete interest)
Thanks. So not as bad a the initial list made it seem.

I mean it won't really be far off £450k a week when he joins. I think £350ish
With the 25% wage reduction all the players are on, £450k would make FDJ our highest earner. Actually we should do it just to see Ronaldo throw a hissy fit
