I liked the bit where he called Todd Bohley a profiterole the most
I use to work for Nestle and when our Spanish manager tried to say the word profitable it came out as profiterole in a meeting, i got the giggles and couldnt stop, i was nipping myself to try and take my mind off it but i got sent out of the meeting after 15 minutes.
I actually got a verbal warning for it as well and seeing that has just set me off again:):)

Seriously what's the point of posting anything from the sport... May as well post what Benny down the pub thinks.

Read up on Spanish employment law. There is a clause that allows Barca to impose a pay cut - not straightforward but they could if pushed into it.
They can't really do that though. The same legislation apparently allows the players affected to terminate their contracts and walk as free agents.

Wonder if Barca has dropped their stance of telling BS and are just actually telling Sport to print the truth now? Very odd how they've changed their stance pretty sharpish in the same time as Barca have accepted that they're not sure he's going to stay

Pretty sure that's going to be one of them laws that are present but never actually used... or clubs would be very very hesitant to use

If Barca’s mouthpiece (sport) is sending out these reports then this may be closer to being resolved than we think. The news has been all good today.

I think (just my opinion) that they have moved onto the next stage of propaganda. Still controlling the narrative to make it seem like Frenkies decision to leave.

Yeah I know guys, probably hard to apply it to multimillion euro salaries of footballers with agents and lawyers behind them. Just got a bit tired of all the posts going ‘he could just stay’ when that’s probably the least likely option at this point.

It might be the least likely option to you and a few others. But it is an option. No point in fighting anything that doesn't follow your line of thoughts.

Agreed. While I'm optimistic we go full OranjeCafe soon, we cannot rule out any outcome at the moment

By that logic so is a forced pay cut or Frenkie breaking contract and moving on a free. Anything could happen in the next half hour!
Yup we have no idea what's going to happen but it's safe to assume that we're getting closer to some kind of resolution now

Good luck actually enforcing that and winning a case when the player inevitably pushes back

I have 3 main worries about this mess.

A- Barca had been able to lure top players because of the ridiculous salaries they offered. To give you some perspective Ronaldo is on a 500k a week. That was the highest salary United had ever given. Griezmann on the other hand was on a 575k a week while Messi was on a 1m a week. That gave them a key advantage over us let alone on other clubs like Juventus, Liverpool or Bayern who wouldn't dream of paying those salaries. If they managed to find suckers like us, who are willing to pay the salaries of their unwanted players, then it will act as an incentive for them to do it again and again. This might set a very dangerous precedent in football

B- Barca are in this mess mostly because of the 1m per week given to Messi. Basically every player at Barca gauged his salary over that of Messi. For example Griezmann would be right in expecting getting paid half of what Messi earned simply because in his prime he was considered at least half as good as Messi was. We had a similar situation with Sanchez as well. Players simply came knocking at the gaffer's door asking for a fair salary as compared to that of the Chilean. Will that happen again with De Jong? I think it would especially since we're increasing De Jong's salary not for what he did on our pitch but on what he did for Barca.

C- While I would like the manager to be backed there comes a time when the board must make a stand. It shows that they know what they are doing and that the manager won't get away with anything he wants. This is one of the few times when I think its the case. Having us footing De Jong's bill for services while at Barca is bonkers. Someone should remind ETH that there's a bigger football world than the farmer's league he just came out from.
All very reasonable concerns. A big part of me wants to believe we just had bad luck w the likes of ADM and Sanchez and Pogba. Would the result have been different had they all performed more in line with their salaries? To the point that it would be unreasonable for say Rashford to ask for 300k a week because of Sanchez unless he were scoring 30 goals a season.

The other aspect that makes me feel differently is that we are no longer under Woodward. He was too chummy with players and shifted power to them. Arnold can and must take that back to a healthy place for United but I don't think it requires us to completely avoid big salary stars from Madrid or Barca.

I feel Frenkie will offer us something that we've not had since Carrick and Scholes. He'll be a game changer.

A back line of Garnacho, Maguire, Varane, Malacia, with Martinez and FDJ mixed in means United can play long to wingers pulling wide in Sancho and Rashford, and also play out from the back.

I expect top 3 if FDJ joins, and I expect a squad that challenges to the Quarter/Semis of the CL the following season.

If we want to be existential about it then yeah, every outcome has the exact same probability. As many have pointed out, for all we know, FDJ holds the most important cards right now, it is on him if he is wanting to try to force his payments (plus future ones) or if he wants to play. I don't know about him, can't say which is the most likely from all this. What I can tell you, as I did before, is that I am pretty sure a scenario with a force paycut is pretty unlikely in a western europe country as employees rights are usually seen as more important than rights of corporates. Plus in this case the corporate is spending money like wild so it will be pretty difficult to picture a scenario that they are facing extinction.

Maybe United is in the know of some emergency plan that kicks in at a certain date and thats why they keep reluctant. I think, we are looking like mugs already, getting involved in such a telenovela. But who cares, if this player is as important as many seem to think, just get it over with.

Barca and Frenkie are both strong headed in this case and they must think it's cool to stand their ground or whatever but this is how they actually look like from the outside:

Can someone explain what makes this thread keep on going in this fashion? AFAIK the latest credible reports are months (?) old about an agreement between the clubs and Murtough and Arnold travelling to Barcelona. If de Jong had any interest in joining United, surely this would've been a done deal a long time ago?

Are we just hoping/waiting for Barça to finally bully de Jong out of there? And doesn't it seem more plausible that he ends up at Chelsea or another club that he actually wants to join?

This thread seems to consist of an awful lot of guessing, shitposting, and "reports" from tier 5 sources.

I’m hoping Garnacho at right back is a typo ? I’d be happy with Laird starting at right back as I think he’s got a higher ceiling than Dalot and is already as good going forwardz

Eh? Because of the size of Barcelona and the amount of employees they have they would have to impose the same changes to 30 peoples contracts. It’s the rules.
Ah, I thought you were saying this supposed law had been enacted against 30 players in the past as precedent. Like I said, the law may be there, but good luck putting it into practice.
