Chelsea have had more than their fair share of midfielders over the years, can't they just let us have this one? The bastards
Very much doubt they will get him.

Gallagher, Jorginho, Kovacic, Kante, RLC, Mount (although I know he plays wide too)

They need a CB and a CF before anything else. Can’t see them spending €85m on De Jong whilst there’s more pressing matters to spend on.

Why would it be Arnold or murtoughs fault? They are backing their coach. They’ve done everything they can so far. The mess up is on Barca’s side
Barca may well be at fault for all of it and they appear to have acted terribly throughout. That being said, if Arnold spends his entire first summer in charge chasing a marquee player (and his new manager's no.1 target) who he then fails to secure, the optics of that will be pretty bad. I don't think Woodward ever recovered credibility after the 2013 debacle.

However, to be clear, I have been saying for a while that I expect De Jong to join late in August and I'd still say that is the most likely outcome here.

A midfielder in midfield, a midfielder in attack, a midfielder in goal, a midfielder on the bench, a midfielder as the filling of a sandwich, a midfielder in the airing cupboard, a midfielder in the room under the stairs.

Bet they can't move for midfielders at their training ground. We have cones and those cute little mini-triangles. They have Jorginho.

What I said was that there's no way back for Murtough and Arnold. United's midfield was constantly getting dominated last year and not adding a single midfielder to address that is nothing short of diabolical. If you still think that it's all fine and United's cureent midfield is competitive to get us top 4 then we can agree to disagree.
I know what you said. There's no way back for Murtough and Arnold and I still say it's over dramatic bull sheet. We know ETH want FDJ, do you suggest they should be moving on other targets while FDJ is still a possibility?

So you didn't really go through what I wrote. I clearly wrote "If De Jong moves to Chelsea".

Chelsea have couple of decent midfielders they need other positions before they buy a CM they need a striker.

How exactly would that work, seeing as they want him to go?
They'd WANT the interest from Chelsea to be real?
Yeah, seeing that Chelsea is interested in one of their players might make them think that it's worth keeping him after all.

It will definitely be Fabregas mk.II but with no Fellaini to bolster our midfield this time around.

This saga would be the remembered as the one we missed out on giving the opportunity to Zidane Iqbal to go on an become Manchester united best midfielder since ever!!!!
It’ll be remembered as the lamest of all the mega sagas. Sancho 1.0, Vidal, Thiago etc were all much more entertaining. This is just so boring.

They NEED him to go, they can't afford his contract under their new wage structure. It's either he takes a pay cut, or he goes (well, he can stay on what he's earning now, but they'd make life so difficult for him)

They'd WANT Chelsea to be interested as it would probably start a bidding war between United and Chelsea, earning Barca more money

We've already agreed a fee, there won't be a bidding war

This guy reminds me of the girl who broke my heart. I gave her everything and the whole world knew we'd be good together, but there was still a spider in her brain that somehow convinced her that she doesn't love me.

She knew she did deep inside, but she just didn't. This guy knows we're a match made in heaven so what's he going to Chelsea for

Scoring goals is overrated, mate. It's all about tidy, short passes in the middle of the park. Sideways, even backwards. You can't make a YouTube compilation of goals. Who on Earth would watch that?!

They can afford his contract. They just don't want to. They don't need him to go; they want him to go.

Probably the same spider that convinced her to let your best mate bum her. Who’s keeping an eye on these spiders, that’s what I want to know?

Even with their options in midfield I do think Jorginho is the only one similar to what FDJ would offer. There are rumours that Jorginho won’t be here beyond this season.

Even though I do think chelsea would be interested in FDJ, I just don’t think they want to spend anywhere near the offer Utd have put in.

In an ideal world, chelsea may be hoping Utd end up going for an alternative and then they can sign FDJ at a cheaper price than what we agreed. Unlikely though.

From here to there
Romero has found a new way to say that De Jong wants to stay at Barcelona but will leave if he doesn't get his wages and could join either Man United or Chelsea with a preference for Chelsea because they are a bunch of horrible cnuts (financially doped themselves into the CL once again)
