Worth pointing out there are add ons in these deal too so the 20M and 10M respectively are the minimum cost. Take what they have spent and assume Cucurella happens you are already at 180M and we are to believe there is still 35M or so for a RB, 70M for Fofana, 80M for De Jong and whatever they choose to spend on a striker. If the media are telling the truth about all of this Chelsea are going to be touching 400M in spending which is clearly utter bs, they made clear they had around 200M to spend this summer plus whatever they got from player sales which currently is looking like not much at all. I suspect if Cucurella is signed they may push the boat out for one more big signing and that will be a choice between another CB, a RB or a Striker. FDJ really is a luxury for them at this point and having signed Chukwuemeka and being very close to a deal for Casadei it looks as though they are planning to address the midfield with younger, cheaper options. They are also linked with Barella for the midfield for what its worth so making Frenkie their biggest signing of the summer is hard to reconcile with their budget and their needs.
Boehly has said in interviews that £200m was the budget but it could be more with outgoings. Journos that he gives information to have said he could spend £300m total for the right players. As he is the one negotiating these deals directly, who knows how high he will go? Not sure when FFP kicks in?

There will be ways around it. A big sign on fee etc would cover it I imagine.
Are we sure about this? Seems like something we could have done already? This is so complicated.

I am still inclined to think that FDJ would be more of a secondary target and I cannot see Chelsea matching our bid, not because they can't but simply because they would place a lesser value on him than we do. If they were going to spend 80M+ on one player then you would think it would be more likely to be Fofana or Osimhen, someone who addresses a glaring need in the starting XI. I don't doubt TT has some interest but I would expect if an offer is made it will be significantly less than the 85M we agreed to and would include a lot of add ons rather than guaranteed money.

Based on who the current head coach is.

And for me i'll be happy if he arrives and if he doesn't then i'm hoping we target some like a Bennacer or Caqueret.
Based on that clip he doesn't indicate if it's coming from a source, just that it is his opinion.

I've remained on the fence through all this because it seems like ultimately (as that bloke says) he wants to stay more than anything but that Utd may be the beneficiaries of that not happening. At this point though, I can't see it being done before the window closes and the season starts this weekend.

If there's one thing I'd like to know, it's how Man Utd first became aware De Jong may be available. I hope, if it gets done, there's a long form Athletic article about it like the Sancho deal because that would be very interesting reading.

Just pay Frenkie the money you miserable shits. I'm tired of waiting now. If Frenkie doesn't skydive into Old Trafford before Sunday's game clutching a big bag marked "Dosh" then someone is getting rushed.

Directly under the sun... NOW!
Great, 20 pages of mourning a transfer muppet. Songs, hymns and daily fecking mirror sources. Someone just take a fecking hammer and chisel to Laportas head. Someone can lock this thread, then off to sign some random 37 year old goalkeeper. That's us done.
Better steer clear of that bad acid, dude

It probably is, but United probably took the stance "Barca caused this mess, Barca sorts it". Now Chelsea are involved, they'll likely not want to risk anything, and i imagine we'll go back and say "Ok you join us, we'll give you £15m sign on spread over the length of your contract" or something to that effect.

I think it’s worth it. You look at how City operate, paying huge sign on fees to Haaland and his family. If the player is as important to the new manages as is being suggested, then I would back that decision.

I think this is probably how things end up going, and at this point I'll take anything that gets this deal over the line. I'm so tired.

I can see that happening, United are going to panic and they're going to get desperate and certainly look into ways of getting it done. This is ten Hags main guy, he's desperate for him and i seriously doubt Chelsea will be in for him as hard as we are. Something just doesn't feel right about the whole thing

I think it's more of a negotiating tactic than an actual hard stance because we knew there were no other buyers. I don't know what has gotten into Chelsea and why they're chasing him now because even Chelsea fans didn't seriously think they'd be in for him a week or two ago.

If it comes to it, I think we'll pay up (80M to Barca + 17M to Frenkie over the duration of his contract thru sign-on fees etc.). 97M euros for Frenkie in a window where RM paid 80M for Tchouameni. It seems reasonable enough.

I'd love to see if Chelsea try to force Alonso / Azpi as part of this negotiation. I think they'll be in trouble if they do that because Barca still need money for Bernardo.

All the rumour and reports that have mentioned the player doesnt/wont/is against coming to United is what irks m
Still believe we'll get FDJ but the muppet in me will give up when the "it's embarrassing for the club" votes go past the "it's a matter of time, he's ours" votes:(
When my vote went onto the embarrassing option it was less than 14%.

Now look at it.
