I'm actually crying inside a little

You see City and Liverpool fans loving life and playing with their new shiny toys, added to their collection of gold.

Then there's United scraping the barrel for players like Arnoutavic and Rabiot to add to their pile of disposable shit.

We've net spent £40m for feck sake and saved over £1m in weekly wages.

I could understand these as late cheaper options for depth if we'd already signed De Jong, Antony and Sesko... But Jesus Christ, this is actually our future and players we're going to rely on.

Our recruitment the last few years would make a sick team on Fifa 10.

Victor Valdes, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Falcao, Zlatan, Alexis Sanchez, Cavani, Ronaldo...

All past their best and on big money. Just shocking mismanagement.
I'm beginning to believe our scouting department is 14 year old kids playing FIFA.

So do countless other players. Ones that don't come with the same amount of baggage.
You agree he improves us then? We arent buying the next great central midfielder so lets just go with improvements and take it from there

Chase De Jong all summer, then panic buy Rabiot on the deadline day, reminds me of something…
Yea, I would take Fellaini over this chap.

Anyone turning their nose up at this after watching those 2 clowns in midfield yesterday, needs their heads checked. I dont care what 'baggage' he is/has.... He walks into our team and improves it
I seriously doubt most people here actually watched him or know him besides from tabloid headlines

Is he good or not? Have we decided yet?

I'd take Drinkwater at this point. If the Board won't cough up big money for vast improvements, let's make baby steps in the right direction.

Honestly, this club had months to plan the transfer window. Once it was obvious we weren't qualifying for the CL last season, there should have been strict planning on arrivals.

If ETH came in and scrapped the entire shortlist of targets, then we have learned absolutely nothing in the past few years.

The Rabiot and Arnautovic links are so uninspiring.

Absolutely ridiculous. This is a name that has been floating around our recruitment setup for years. Do we actually do any current scouting, or is this just the next cheap, available cab off the rank as we are panicking?

He's never lived up to his potential, he's someone that does a bit of everything but doesn't exactly impress with anything. Is he better than Scott McTominay? Yes, but how on earth can that be a justification or criteria. Is there really nobody out there that we can invest in with higher potential?

He looks comfortable on the ball and can carry it, which is what we desperately lack in midfield. I'm on board.

Suggests he would play as a holding midfielder if he were to come here. Frankly for €15m if we were to continue spending the money to plug gaps across the pitch which we'd left aside for De Jong it's not a bad signing. He's far, far better than Fred or McTominay.

The plan was to play hard ball with barca for three months. Murtough has lost the plot

No. We already have a squad full of players that are "on their day" players, or players with question marks over their character/determination etc etc. No use adding another to that list. It's counter productive, even if he is an improvement.

We've just gotten rid of a couple players that were massive off field distractions. Let's not take a step backwards.

Plenty other players out there that improve us and don't bring this baggage. We need to start doing things in the right way.

Really does seem like panic stations now , a familiar story for us.

Looking to see if we can pick up players late in the day that no other serious club is interested in.

Honestly, he should be sacked if no further players are brought in.

We can't have another Woodward 2.0 running around in charge of transfers. The incompetence is simply staggering.

Yeah he’s a good player, a step up from McTommy for sure. Are quite a few player I’d prefer before him but by no means would he be a poor signing. However I suspect we won’t get him and he’ll see out his Juve contract then seek big wages.

He doesn't. He's absolute gash. Like, barely a footballer at this point.

His attitude is terrible and it shows on the pitch. When he gives a feck he is quite good, problem is he hardly ever does. We should stay well clear.

@Cassidy

If I remember correctly we talked about the timing of signing De Jong a few days ago and had a difference of opinion. This type of dealings is where I agree with your stand, Rabiot and a back up strikers aren't the kind of deals that United should be doing at this time of the window, Rabiot's contractual situation means that Juventus want him out or extended as soon as possible and if he was a target he should have been signed a while ago. And if previous reports are correct he has been a target since May or early June.

Playing Rabiot as a holding midfielder

If we'd replaced Fred with FDJ (or any of the other half a dozen great options) and then replaced McTominay with Rabiot to play further forward with Eriksen, I wouldn't have a problem.

But my fecking word what a clownshow we are.

Below is the bit on the transfer fee for Rabiot from Jason Burt's article in the Telegraph

Juventus want €15-20 million (£12.5-17 million) for Rabiot but United are unlikely to bid that much for the 27-year-old France international
If by any chance United get him for around €10M, and he is not on crazy wages, then it is an alright outlay, not expensive and far better player than McTominay, although we should not consider McTominay's level a barometer to sign players

This just smacks of a panic buy, I want to be patient with the changes that is going on with Arnold and Murtough but this window is looking like a real clusterfeck to be honest.

If I’d said it once , I’ve said it a million times, until the cnut owners are gone ain’t nothing going to change.

Playing him anywhere else other than a holding midfielder would worry me. Thats why hes 'baggage'. He wants to be running the show in midfield but really his best role is defensively

I didn't watch the lad, is he really THAT bad? Surely he would be upgrade on Fred and McT?
