Can't believe we see him as an alternative to FDJ as they are completely different style of players, Rabiot is a ball winner like Kante and while they both prefer to play deepest in the midfield, FDJ is far more like a Modric/ Carrick in a DLP role

If the second coming of Maradona was at Juve and available for €5m, I'd still be against giving those pricks any money after what we gave them for Pogba.

Maybe wishful thinking but not only do I think this is going to be additional to De Jong to also I don’t think it will impact any other planned business.

It’s most likely the this is a player we knew was available but had no plans to sign a second midfielder. Then ETH saw how poor our midfield really is yesterday and made the call.

It is a panic signing? Absolutely. Is it a needed signing? Yes.

If this is at the expense be De Jong or an alternative though it’s time for pitchforks.
All the mental gymnastics....we clearly were holding out for De Jong after yesterday result and performance we're panicking that's what happened here.

You, in my eyes absolutely rightfully, identified the lack of mentality in your squad as the main problem and now you want to buy Adrien Rabiot and Marko Arnautovic? Is there a joke i don't get?
No joke, we're just that badly run

I think some of you need a bit of a reality-check. The FdJ and Ronaldo sagas should be proof enough that we are not in a position to attract top talent, and when there might be some hope of signing an Antony, a Ruiz, a Neves or a Sesko we get our pants pulled down around the price.

Right now we're at a point where we need to make smaller, incremental improvement signings to get us back to the point of being a realistically consistent top-four prospect. Only then are we really going to be able to sign the sort of players we all want; when we're consistently challenging for cups and a CL spot. We are Arsenal or West Ham, we are not Liverpool, Citeh or Chelsea.

Is Rabiot ideal? No. Is he demonstrably better than McTominay? Yes. I'd take another two or three Rabiot-style signings if it makes us competitive again on the pitch where we so desperately, desperately need to improve - LB, DM, CM, 10.

We should at least give ten Hag the benefit of the doubt on this one. He obviously has own reasons why he thinks someone like Rabiot would contribute to his system. Keep in mind that no one; yes, not even us Caftards, know what profile of player works better in his system than he himself does. If he's scouted him and identified him as someone who can play in his system, then we at least owe it to Erik to wait and see how this pans out before we get the pitchforks out on Veronique and the mop top mummy's boy.

We're at something like 55m net spend, not counting the drop in wages from:
  • Pogba
  • Mata
  • Cavani
  • Lingard
  • Telles
  • Matić
  • Henderson
  • Pereira
Sure, I forgot to take outgoings into account. But if we're paying £15 million for Rabiot and around £10 million for Arnautovic, that still leaves us with little room to maneuver. And that's without counting whatever the club have put aside to a potential FdJ signing.

But £100 million is a laughable amount given the statue of our club and the state of our squad in today's market. We'd need at least £200 to make any serious overhaul.

We are a joke and a really bad one at that. After a summer in which you want to send all the bad apples away, how can you take on one (and possibly another with Arnautovic) that is known for causing issues (by or through his mother). We would have been better off keeping Jlingz and PP then we would have atleast had nice dance videos.

I thought we were restructuring but it's just the same utter shite. If it is true that ETH has discarded the list of the scouts/board/RR and this is the alternative along with the average football players we have already bought. Then we might as well pull the plug here right now and just accept that we are slowly going to battle Everton for the worst run football club in the Epl.

I know this might sound kneejerk but for me all the signs are there that it will be a very grim season with a lot of people within our club completely out of their depth.

I'm sure we are skint. Has to be that.
Honestly think so too. Hilariously the club were leaking that they wouldn’t back Rangnick in January because we were saving all the funds for the permanent manager in the summer. Heh.

The trouble is, it's not £100m in a vacuum - we have already wasted £1BN net over the last decade.

Not only are we not good at signing players, we're also terrible at selling players!

The most positive way you can spin this, is that ETH wants to be absolute sure to get another midfielder in, after he saw the shitshow yesterday. If this means that McTominay won't be starting many PL games for the rest of the season, then at least that would be something.

Of course, it would still be a bit worrying that we couldn't come to that conclusion based on last season, and that a better plan wasn't in place.

Claims mental gymnastics and then continue to speculate yourself, nice.

You’ve also essentially just repeated what I said.

I guess Rabiot will add depth but he's hardly an exciting player. Seems to have a weak personality too.

From one circus of a player to another circus of a player. We are suppose to be clearing the squad of unprofessional toxic characters yet we want this clown and his mother and marko and his brother. We are a pure banter club. Just pick up the phone to wolves ffs and improve the midfield with neves whose character at Porto at 18 had him captain and captain again at wolves.oh and he's actually quality.

tbf he played way more for Juve last season that I thought he would have. I assumed like Ramsey he was warming their bench all these years

Horrible decision to go after him.

Ends our De Jong move atleast.

As if this guy is the 2nd best option for us.

Fact is Ten Hag and the board haven't delivered this summer window. Rabiot and Arnautovic would make this a 4/10 window.

You're talking like this was a carefully considered signing.

I agree - we've wasted massive amounts. But what are we gonna do given the current state of affairs? Just stop spending money? Depend on youth products? Resign to signing players like Arnautovic and Rabiot?

If Ten Hag picked him as the 2nd best option.... I'd be more worried about who we've got in charge of the squad.

Between the FDJ farce, Ronaldo feckery, Arnautovic garbage and this, it truly has been a proper banter window...

Our rival fanbases are having a blast

Its not speculation to say we were never in for Rabiot, especially with all the brief that were relaxed and there was a deal to be done regarding Frankie but OK.

I'm starting to think people don't realise that McFred are still decent players and a lot better than many other midfielders out there. They aren't going to win you the Premier League, in all likelihood, and they may not even be good enough for top four. But yes, they are better than a lot of other players. Rabiot is, in my opinion, a downgrade based on everything I'm looking at, when it comes to both stats and Juventus fan opinions.
Genuine question, have you watched him play football ? You can't base your opinion only on stats and some fans' opinion on an internet forum.

I'm not a big of him, and I am certain there are better options, but at only 15M euros or less, it's not a huge risk.
