Yep, buzzing about this one! I've been waiting for a winger of this type to come along, we have been crying out for it for a long time. The cards couldn't have fallen any better with him being at Ajax and us having ETH.

You excited about this one? I've been quietly watching and reading the Antony threads for a while and couldn't get over the posters that seemed so 'meh' about him. Either I'm very wrong, or they can't see the massive potential in this guy. I think he could be one of the best around. If Sancho finds his feet on the LW, which I have felt he would for a while, then we'll have a tasty attack. Add a CF & a CM of this quality next summer (or today?? :nervous:) and I think we'll be back in business.
I think the issue is on the Caf you’ll never please everyone. Some want the class of 92 coming through every single year who play for the badge, don’t care about wages and don’t cost a transfer fee.

If you allow yourself to just enjoy football then I don’t see how anyone who loves the game can’t be excited by this. He’s a classic United style winger and plays with that South American fire and flair. I think he compliments Sancho really well in terms of attributes and gives us something we’ve been missing a long time now.

People forget the Greenwood situation blindsided us. We essentially lost a 80-90m player overnight with nothing to show for it.

He’s a player that I don’t know enough about to get very excited, personally. From the clips I’ve seen of him I suspect I’m going to spend equal amounts of time frustrated by him and absolutely enamoured at what he can do, kinda like Nani only hopefully he kicks on and puts the frustrating aspects behind him, which Nani never managed.

Aside from that, the starts Martinez and Malacia have made have given me much more faith in Ten Hag’s picks than I had previously, so I’m all for it. Fees don’t bother me in the slightest particularly in these key positions.

He looks a right cocky and arrogant cnut.

Briliant. No more soft touches on the pitch anymore. Just lots of shithousers and aggressive feckers.

You love to see it.

What Antony appears to have that we don't really have in the squad is the ability to go past a defender inside or outside from a near-standing start. We have pace in the squad, but it's mostly the sort of pace which is useful in behind or on the counter, rather than quick bursts to carry the ball past a well-positioned defender. That ability to beat defenders one-on-one is often what we lack when we're trying to break down teams who get men behind the ball and stay solid.
Exactly. What our players don't do enough is fecking run at their defenders. Much harder to defend against than what we usually see with players playing like cowards, not dribbling and sideways passing. Think he will improve that aspect.

Right at the beginning of the window, I thought this would be the tough one and FdJ the easy one - of course, I was unaware that Barca had offered him 100 euros, a bag of chirozo and onion crisps and
a replica of his own shirt instead of the millions they owe him! I vaguely remember seeing clips of a very young Antony somewhere but nothing since. ETH has seemingly got it right with other purchases so here's hoping...

he comes across as extremely cocky and arrogant and I'm absolutely here for it.
Completely agree…him and Martinez add such a heightened level of swagger we’ve been missing. ETH seems to be targeting the nasty competitors and I’m all for it. Desperately need that type of energy.

isn't that exactly what makes some people here hate Dean Henderson?
I guess. I don't hate Henderson though ... I could have done without the quotes re: United obviously, but I don't have an issue with his overall demeanor. And I certainly take a bit of an arrogant swagger over the fragile mindset that our club has been flooded with in recent years.

I dunno, I've thought the problem was too many players were to arrogant over the past few years, too many players going don't you know who I am, it can't be my fault we arnt winning.

But if it is the kind of arrogance that says im amazing and look I'm gonna prove it game after game then that's good.

I've watched a few YouTube videos on him, and while you obviously can't tell much of anything about a player after 20 minutes of footage, I think it does go some way in explaining his slightly underwhelming stats that people keep harping on about. Particularly the assists. The number of misses from his teammates after some excellent work by him was ridiculous.

I know Rashford isn't exactly prolific, but if any of our players can put even half those chances away his assist record will be looking quite healthy. And it's clear we're buying him for what we believe he can be as opposed to thinking he's the finished article now. So I think it's a bit unfair (although understandable) to flag up his less-than-stellar goals and assists record.

What are the chances he features tonight
0, the club have said he won't feature. He'll most likely be in the stands if he's not house hunting for his family, although I guess club reps will do that.

His interview was top class honestly, seems a fighter but very humble and I think him and Sancho will tear up teams within 18 months... when both get games under their belt in general both still very young.

Sancho and Antony will be feared, that top striker / CM and RB and United will be a different animal.

Casemiro, Antony, Bruno, Martinez all real cnuts and no more push overs all over the team, the atmosphere at OT will be fire with those in the starting XI.

“Biggest club in England”… off to a good start? :)

Nice vid, like Ajax’s goodbye one too. Stay classy Ajax.

Who tf created a sentimental farewell video like this? What a bunch of weirdos.

that didn’t stop me from tearing up, though. Classy touch from Ajax! Hope we’ll meet them soon. And smash them.

Eredivisie record sale for a player and a big player for Ajax the last two years I can see why they did it, very nice touch from them.

I think he'll be like a Suarez in the league he's has the right character to progress I don't think he will be scared of the EPL I just think he'll need maybe 12 months but ETH will show full faith in him which will help.

Looking at his reactions after signing, he absolutely loves us which means he'll give 100% everytime in our shirt

Honestly south Americans (Argentinians and Brazilians) are great players, they often come from the shittest conditions and their only way out in life is football. They leave everything on the pitch.

Casemiro, Martinez and Antony now is really going to give united fight.

Hopefully they get the other players to be the same, and they lift the standards at the club. I liked Pogba at times but I'm glad to not see a player of his quality jog back like he's having a weekend stroll in the park.

Tired of the players attitude the last few years, the wrong characters, no leadership. The annoying English core of players that seem entitled and think they're a united player so they've made it but don't do anything on the pitch or show any character.

Really glad to what ETH has brought in this summer.

Can he not have 11? I mean I can't see it getting much use. Is Greenwood even registered in our Premier League squad or does he not need to be due to his age?

I really like Ajax, I think I fell in love with them a bit back in the 90s with that amazing van Gaal team, I had never seen a team play football like that before, absolutely breath taking. Hope they can rebuild fast and manage to produce more quality talent, which I have no doubt they will.

Greenwood is still listed as a member of the squad with the number 11 in the official website for what it's worth.

I'd give him the number 11 if it was up to me. just like 9 of Tony and Zlatan back in the day.

I can't see him getting the number 11. I'm convinced no police charges will be brought against Greenwood. It doesn't take this long to bring charges.

This is a pretty great performance from him vs Groningen in the first Eredivisie game of the season (weird title for the video, you'd think it's a compilation), if this is anything to go by I'm excited to see him in action as a neutral.
