Well you do since that's reason he didn't play. Had he been consistently fit he'd have played, he wasn't so he didn't.
Correct me, but he never claimed he didn't play. He said there was no dressing room competition and certain players were always preferred.

People will hold his condition against him, but it definitely doesn't seem like he is wrong. It was also reported that Ole's "cultural reset" gave priority to English talents, thus Wan-Bissaka. Remains to be seen if this changes under Ten Hag regarding the preferential treatment.
Yeah I don't think there was a preference once they were a part of the squad but the emphasis definitely was on building an english core. e.g., JLingz got kicked out pretty quickly and I think Pereira started way more than him before we signed Bruno.

Is that bad? I dunno. It was the way you went about things when Fergie was around.

Bailly is in no place to complain because of his injury record.

To be fair, he was often fit and overlooked last season, and for his much discussed mistakes - he put in some brilliant performances that he never got the chance to build on last season.

To be fair to Ten Hag he has dropped Maguire and Shaw and launched Wan-Bissaka into the sun. Rashford and Sancho have been good this season and deserve to be playing.

Ragnick dropped Maguire, Shaw, AWB and Rashford at various points last season - but never decided to play Bailly. Seems him not playing had feck all to do with nationality.

It's quite clear that the story of the English clique was true - Henderson, Lingard, Maguire, Greenwood, Shaw, AWB (to a lesser extent) and Rashford.

3 of those are gone, 3 of them frozen out whilst the "foreign clique" has strengthened - Ronaldo, Fernandes, Dalot, Martinez, Casemiro, Antony, Fred and Varane, in particular.

Not a surprise internal dynamics/spirit have improved.

People who are not born in the UK, but who live and work in the UK, are fully entitled to criticise any aspect of living here, without the bigoted cry of "why dont you just leave the country then?"
he is aloud to criticise the uk as long as he is paying his taxis and always sings “god save the queen” before every meal. but it sounds to me like this jonny forener just wanted all the good parts of living in the uk (carling, the royal family, the conservative party and indian food) but wanted to also feel equal to his superiors (englishmen.) as cecil rhodes once said “to be born english is to win first prize in the lottery of life.”

Things aren’t this binary. There were times he was fit and the starting CBs were off form and/or rushed from injury. Specifically Maguire. His points are valid.

Yes - I think there were some rumblings in the middle of last season on how Maguire was always starting despite his sub par performances.

Bailly has some legitimacies in his gripe, but his inability to stay fit and Maguire always being fit is a massive factor in the latter's selection.
Wouldn't be a surprise. But then again Bailly doesn't really have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to arguing his case.
Cheers! And yeah it seemed like for large spells of time at your club he was always injured, so it can be hard giving opportunities to these players, even more so at a position like CB

The fact that Bailly is injury prone and also not very good doesn't mean he's wrong imo

Shaw, Maguire, Wan Bissaka and Rashford all got prolonged starts in the side despite not performing and other options waiting in the wings

How come Evans, Jones, Brown and Smalling were not favored over Vidic? How come Maguire is not favored over Varane/Martinez. Sour grapes. Baily was great on his day and sometimes just a space cadet who was out of position.

Maquire was favored because of his price tag and hope that he will eventually stop sucking and actually play well.

He’s obviously referring to Ole and Maguire, particularly him starting Maguire against Leicester last season with question marks over his fitness, only for Maguire to go and subsequently embarrass himself and the team.

A lot of reports that Bailly and other players were unhappy with that decision.
Interesting. I love this Ole bashing.

So why is it that a Swede was starting ahead of him? Lindelof.

Also, when Varane was fit, he started almost instantly. French international btw.

When Bruno was fit, he started almost every game.

When DDG was fit he was in.

Finally, since November Rangnick was in charge and I didnt see Bailly play much... maybe Ole was still picking the team then?

‘I met Erik Ten Hag in the dressing room at the end of last season when he went to sign his contract.
‘I was packing my things because my intention was to leave, but he told me he wanted me to stay because he was going to give minutes to everyone.
‘I agreed to do the summer tour with United, and he kept his word, but I don’t want to play every now and then. I want to do it every week and feel important. I want to get my confidence back.’

So in the same post you say it's sour grapes and then you admit Maguire was favoured? What is your point then

He is right. I don’t think he should be discredited based in his performance / fitness, either. Not relevant to what he said.

Not Totally true. When Maquire was 30 % fit and Bailly 100 %, Ole picked Maquire
Agree. He has a point here, he did well when he played last season but it was straight back to the weekly Maguire shit show as soon as he was available.

Bailly is externalizing all blame like the great, stand-up guy he is. It's obviously the English players' fault he can't stay fit for more than two games in a row.

Because top managers are not idiots. Unfortunately ETH is the first top manager we've had since 2013.

Sour grapes or not Bailly is undeniably right about Maguire being favoured. So what's wrong with him saying it?

Not because they were English though. For example, lindeloff has always been preferred to baily also.

He's right about Maguire, but he was rubbish for us years before Maguire arrived.

Now the hate will start towards him, about his injuries etc...but in Ole era that was definitely true about English players being favoured.

He's right, but he also wrong.

It happens in all English clubs. It also happens in almost all clubs with local players.

Yeah, Bailly got injured a lot but that doesn’t invalidate his point. Let’s be honest, quite a lot of us wanted to see players like Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and even Rashford dropped, there were times that it didn’t look like they were getting in the team based on form.

We are one step away from someone calling him McChoir.

Worrying that we were willing to keep him despite a mountain of evidence that would show that's not the correct move

Many triggered englishmen here, the fact that maguire played that much proves he is 100% right.
Nationality should never be a criteria for selecting a 11, performance should be the only criteria.
