I'm pretty sure and normal young person would not give a feck.
show how out of touch you are. my kids are 6 and 4 and i’ve not allowed them in from the garden yet because they don’t look sad enough and haven’t been singing the national anthem at a level that i deem acceptable, since the news broke

The correct decision. I don’t know why the football has to stop yet the likes of Rugby and Cricket are still going ahead. Absolute bollocks. Especially the Cricket as no one other than England gives a rats arse about it.
The Premier League is run by marketing wankers. The same cnuts who are sending out sad tweets from Anne Summers and Domino's. Pathetic, plastic mourning.

The people in charge of English football have, once again, shown themselves up.

I suspect, as I'm sure that many people do, they did not cancel this weekend's fixtures out of 'respect' or because they are raging royalists. They cancelled this weekends fixtures because they thought everyone else was going to and they wanted to get in first, to show they were leading the pack. They were after a PR win. They didn't want to be seen to be trailing behind rugby and cricket and the like.

However, they misjudged the mood. Now they're out on a limb. While the rest of British sport does the whole keep calm and carry on thing, which is probably more in keeping with the example of the Queen, our football authorities have their client journos trying to defend their decision. Latest one I've seen is the Queen was the patron of the FA! So that's why they felt they had to cancel grassroots games this weekend?

A craven, stupid call that will be hammered in the media by the same people they wanted to praise them. I guess sometimes people do get what they deserve.

Why are they also acting like it’s only this weekends fixtures that are being cancelled? When it’s clear next weekends will definitely be cancelled as well given the queens funeral will be taking place.

the kids should have thought about that when they didn’t list the months alongside the years of edward the confessors reign during our daily ‘get to know our betters, better’ quiz at home.

Since I'm not from the UK I won't pretend to act like I understand how this works, but on the surface it seems very strange to be asked to mourn a monarch for 10 days in 2022.

Anyways, I assume we'll still be allowed to train at Carrington though? Will be nice to integrate Martial back before we have to play again. Should provide a big boost.

So who’s responsible for players getting injured, or god forbid having heart attacks again later in the year because the fixture schedule is going to become inhuman again?

I am assuming at one point they didn't expect to go ahead at all, so presumably the games were essentially cancelled this morning and then newly arranged for tomorrow given play is possible.
Nope. Cancelled the game at 1pm today and announced that they would be taking place tomorrow with all the other games. Up till that point no one knew if any of the games were going ahead.

The PL and EFL in the rush to be 1st to be seen doing something did the wrong thing and no one is shocked.

I bet they thought if we are 1st everyone else will follow and everyone else was like yeah no we are not cancelling, the PL and EFL are left holding their dicks looking like idiots

Not a chance, it'll be back next week. They're not going to bury her on a weekend.

I think that's actually fair enough on reflection.

Personally dont care nor mind about being cancelled but this whole thing how people see so called royalty, acting like they were/are picked by the God, have blue blood and similar drivel, imagine having old age peasant mentality in 2022, fecking hell.

Don’t worry fella as a UK resident myself I also find the whole thing very strange as do most of the people I know. This forced mourning thing feels very North Korea-esque.

A lot of these kids have just celebrated her Jubilee, which my daughters school made a pretty big deal of. Young kids tend to get upset if people die, especially if they haven't known a close relative pass away.

Not sure why it's a big deal that some kids might be upset by it.

Also, the coverage of the game last night was just abhorrent. Acting like fecking Fred would have been affected deeply by the Queen's passing and that's why he and other players weren't playing well. So much pandering.
They claimed that the crowd were quiet because they were depressed. I switched over to the West Ham game a few times and the crowd was going off there. I think United fans are just apathetic towards the Europa League.

just get var to pronounce her alive again. no one would bat an eyelid.

Joking aside William (head of the FA) could earn himself some goodwill by saying these games should go ahead.

Of course policing wasn't a factor this weekend, nothing is happening this weekend. Her body is laying in state in Scotland for a few days.

Next weekend is when policing needs will stop all the football games. That's why cancelling this weekend is all the more moronic.

Gutted there isn’t football to look forward to this weekend BUT, it now gives Ten Hag a week of hard training time.

I don't think the FA can walk back on this either.
I don't see why not. They're just being stupidly stubborn.

The FA would love the guy to give them an out no doubt. Part of me is actually amused to see them on the hook for their stupidity.

Agreed.

All because football wanted to show it was first to do something and wanted to be seen to be doing more than anyone else.

Don't get me wrong I liked the Queen and I'm cool with having a monarchy. I prefer it to having Tory or Labour Presidents. Very happy to keep the Head of State out of politics. Just can't see any logic in these performative gestures from the FA and the Premier League.

If Rugby Union, which is arguably the most royalist major sport in existence, is going ahead, what is the excuse to not play the games in a season with the tightest ever schedule? Utterly ridiculous.

I think you've kind of hit the nail on the head with that statement. Football is traditionally seen as the sport of the working classes. They need to be reminded of their status and mourn for their ruler. No form of fun is permissible.

For me, nothing good can come from politicising the Head of State. I look at how Americans find it hard, sometimes, to like the fact that their President is from another political party and it makes me think our system may be f'd but it could be a lot more f'd. The roles of head of state and the head of government should be separate. If the best we can do to achieve that is letting the Windsors keep their crown then c'est la vie.

I reckon actually that this is more likely to be the case:
