Was apparently injured yesterday. But surely he deserves to start soon. Malacia is doing fine defensively but we're lacking the passing and forward runs that Shaw brings when he's playing well.
Problem is when he does run forward he only jogs back. Shaw deserves to stay on the bench

Erik Ten Hag prefer to use an unknown youth player than him to sub in for Malacia in Europe league games. For Shaw it's a battle to prove another manager wrong , either Ten Hag didn't rate him, didn't like his attitude ( probably playing COD all the time munching burger and fries ) or he couldn't reach the match fitness Ten Hag wanted from him, ETH didn't even bother to put him for 5 minutes.Like i said before, his age and body fat is the only thing he will gain from now on. I am afraid he is totally finished, i think in the future you should just watch his youtube compilation for nostalgia instead of wishing him to play his way back to the team.
By the way i don't believe he is injured , it's just an excuse for used by a manager when they don't want to play certain player.
Well if you don’t believe it I guess it must be some sort of conspiracy.

That’s the kind of comment I don’t like. Half the time I read posts about him being poor when he has been decent. He’s had some bad games (Christ, who hasn’t?). It’s a total exaggeration to say he’s been useless.

I absolutely don’t want him playing if he’s not going to be better than Malacia. I just think there’ll be times when he hits form and deserves his place. We know he can do it because we’ve seen it. If he and the coaching team can find a way to sustain his form he can be a very valuable member of the squad. It’s no skin off our nose is it?
If it was just this, we'd all accept. He's been useless for most of his time here.

Malacia has played well enough so far and at the very least has shown some desire and effort that seemed to be missing from Shaw but he hasn't been so good yet that I think Shaw should be completely frozen out. I wouldn't mind seeing Shaw given a chance next to Martinez and Varane rather than Maguire and Lindelof. Shaw at his best is much better than we've seen of Malacia so far but unfortunately Shaw is rarely at his best - the impotence is on him to win his place back now. Hopefully he reacts, if not we're in safe hands with Malacia.

A proper run club would have gotten rid of him long time ago so i am not sure why so many people still insist to give him chance , it's probably the same people who wrote Dalot off after few matches. If you all forgot, we got rid the likes of Diego Forlan and Juan Sebastian Veron less than 3 years and they both were 10x the footballer Shaw is. VdB is the one who deserve chance ,not this useless fat lump who has been here stinking the place around for 8 years

You guys must have been his PR , please don't judge player based on their youtube compilation because Shaw having a good game is actually a rare occurrence, even at his best season we conceded +40 goals in the league and most of them came from his side. Some people hyping his Euro performance ( same as how they hyped Maguire ), as if England didn't face many farmers nation worse than average EPL club to get into final. The moment he start playing will be the moment we start losing again. His time here is finished , he isn't going to get any younger nor any faster nor any smarter nor any fitter as footballer , the only thing he will keep on gaining is fat due to worsening metabolism. We should have look to sell him on January transfer window and find someone else to fight for LB place with Malacia. Pandering to bang average player like Luke Shaw won't get us anywhere, better cash in right now before he stuck here like Phil Jones
Agree with all of this. I didn't like the signing at the time, I feel like he has never proven me wrong, and more importantly I think he's a symbol of our failure over the last 6-8 years, poor attitude, picked on name not on form, leaks from the dressing room... he needs to be moved on.

He really hasn’t. Even now we’ve got plenty of people wanting him to get a game or two because he offers more than Malacia going forward.

I can see that Shaw divides opinion and there are certainly a few people who’ve had enough but it’s not necessary to say he’s been useless. You might think we need better but it doesn’t help your point to say he’s been useless because it’s patently false. Don’t get me wrong, I’m frustrated he can’t sustain his best level but the way to deal with that is to drop him not cancel him.

Is he injured or something? Or just unable to get into the team?

He’s been here what? 8-9 years now? He’s had one good season, maybe another half if you count the season he broke his ankle. He lacks intensity so badly that I’m baffled by how he’s lasted this long at United. I’ve been moaning about him since his 2nd or 3rd season here and I got so bored of being annoyed at him that I’m just resigned to him staying forever.

More going forward? He’s got 15 PL assists in 8 years…

Hes shite and goes under the radar because he’s played with worse players.

He’s definitely not shite but I can see I’m not getting much support in here so I’ll stop wasting my time.

I am cheering every time Shaw is not in the starting lineup. Just get rid in the summer please. Bring back Alvaro after his loan, problem solved.

I agree with this, he's probably living his desired life of being on the bench so as to not put in effort.

We have reached an impasse but appreciate you keeping the conversation civil. Which tends not to be the default here.

Yeah, you’re right, we don’t see it quite the same! I’m in the minority with Shaw, I think; I’m probably going soft in my old age.

I’m not sure what it is you see in him, genuinely. What is it you think is good about him? He doesn’t offer much going forward and when he gets forward he gets caught out most of the time. Something daft like 70% of our goals conceded came down the left side last season also. He’s incredibly poor with his intensity, positioning and general defending. I implore you to watch him live if you haven’t already, there’s always space to exploit on his side of the pitch.

Shawberto Carlos? I’m not the only person to have watched him and rated him. He can carry the ball 60 yards in about 6 seconds. He might not have many assists but he has a lovely cross on him.

When he is off form he doesn’t get himself into position properly, it’s true. And I don’t know why he can’t play close to his top level more often but I want him and the coaches to solve that problem.

We’re watching the same guy but we’re focusing on different things. I judge him by his best self, you judge him by his worst self. He has had long spells of good form among the (longer) spells of indifferent form. He can do it. Somehow they’ve got to all get their heads together and get him doing it all the time.

Having proper competition should help him and, as I’ve said earlier, I’m not calling for him to play ahead of Malacia unless he can earn it in training or in a cup run out, if that ever happens.

Shaw is done at the club. Fecking lazy to track back. For all the criticism Trent gets, shaw is actually worse in defending and doesn't contribute in attack either. Useless fellow.

This article is fair in my opinion. He has it all to do to get back into the team but we shouldn’t forget how good he can be.
Yep. Unfortunately most fans either can't or won't remember what happened more than six months ago. A year ago you'd be criticized for suggesting Rashford was overrated and now everyone thinks he's dogshite and should be sold ASAP. Shaw has been benched on merit but his best level is miles higher than what we've seen from Malacia so far. People who suggest otherwise are either blinded by biased or genuinely can't remember his consistent world-class performances in 20/21.

Do you guys really want Shaw playing against the likes of Salah, Saka or even Bowen? In a pressing system where he has to work and go up and down?

Not if he won’t do the work, no.
He won't do the work we all know that. In 9 years he has been here , the most successful period we had when we actually won trophies , was when he didn't play. He didn't play enough games to be given FA cup medal,. carabao cup medal and watch Darmian did his job in Europe league final. When he start playing regularly and started in all the important games that could lead to trophy ,he lost them all , so this guy basically never won anything in his career and a ridiculous serial loser. 15 assist in 9 seasons suggest that he is shite at attacking as well.
I don't understand how some people want to hang on to these type of players and then they wonder why we are shite.

Read the MEN article I posted. It’s blinking obvious why we want to try to get him back to form.

Shaw has pocketed Salah in the past at least, not sure if he's gone up against the others. The problem is his intensity, and with that fitness, appears to have fallen off a cliff. If he can get that back, he will get games for us and possibly even end up 1st choice again.

Short memory syndrom. When has Shaw ever performed well recently to deserve a start? Hell, Eth even gave him a chance and he was absolute garbage, not just playing wise, but also his attitude and effort were a disgrace

Anyone who hasn't either forgotten or blocked out 20/21 knows he can bring more in attack than Malacia has so far. He was effectively our playmaker that season, hugely important to our attack. We struggled to build attacks and create chances when he wasn't playing.

Agree. Shocking that there are people here who still think he deserves a chance. Need to shed his man-boobs first for a start.

Fair play to you for sticking to your guns. Obvs I am the total opposite to you but that's ok too.

Let me ask you this , do you think Shaw is the LB in a team that wins the title ?

I don't see it at all and that's the problem. Even his top level isn't at the level required in my opinion. Malacia isn't either but he's got time and a good coach on his side.

Shaw has had 8 seasons. Pretty much like my opinion on Maguire I think he would have been very good in a 442 20 years ago.

I think Shaw played in some Liverpool fixtures over the last couple of years the 0-5 massacre last season being over. Salah has a ridiculous stats against Utd going years back and Shaw has been our go to left back. I don't think Shaw is in any shape or form bothered by being on the bench he doesn't strike me as the worrying type. He has been here since 2014 and has managed collectively 2 decent seasons. He has played around 215 games for Utd in 8 1/2 years and I fail to remember when he connected two seasons of good performances. He is exactly where he is supposed to be and this should have been done a lot sooner.

He was consistently world-class in 20/21, including Euro 2020. Clearly the best left-back in the league that season. It's a reasonable argument to say he's too inconsistent and hasn't hit his top-level often enough throughout his time here but how can his top level not be good enough?

Yeah, I agree with this. It’s weird how many people are in denial about how good he’s been when he’s at his best. Absolutely streets ahead of anything we’ve seen from Malacia so far. Arguably better than any other LB in the league.

The big issue/mystery is how rarely he’s been at his best. One season (maybe two?) in eight is a terrible ratio.

Not going to argue in defence of Shaw too much but Salah's record was mediocre against United until last season when he scored five in two games. To put that entirely on Shaw given the horrendous form of all United's players last season is harsh.

How isn't his top level good enough to be in a PL winning team? He was literally the best LB in the league a couple of seasons ago... Or do you still think that he was poor and everyone else was just wrong to praise him?

Shaw has 15 assists in the EPL. Wan Bissaka is already on 11 assists despite being a defendive FB who had played far less games. Should we put this 'good in going forward' nonsense to sleep?

Problem is he reached his top level maybe 10 percent of his entire time here. Pogbas absolute top level was fantastic as well, but that doesnt help when you reach it once in a blue moon. Shaw is exactly the same and thus should be moved on.

Some people believe actually watching football games tells you more than stats. I'm not saying that stat is irrelevant but anyone who watched our games in 20/21 could see he was hugely important to our attack.

All United fans had seen Shaw play since he came with United and most agree that apart from few months here and there he wasn't good enough for us. Statistics back that argument, Redcafe rating gave him a disappointing 6.3 rating last season and a 2.7 rating this season, Mou criticised him and ETH seem to prefer Malacia over him. At age 27 Shaw should be an undisputed first teamer. We've got a player whose bad patches last for months and who seem struggling to competing with a 21 year old LB whose fresh from the Dutch league instead. Maybe its time to embrace reality and to cut our losses.

United fans almost universally agreed that he was bonafide world-class throughout the 20/21 season, including Euro 2020. Just look as any random page in this thread, it's stuffed full of people calling him the best left-back in the league, or the world: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/luke-shaw-2020-21-performances.457033/page-92
