Absolute farce

So we start again in October against City then it finishes for the World Cup on the 12th November. What a load of crap.

Not sure why there'd be positive rumours for Spurs Leicester at Sat 5:30pm but they have to call off Arsenal PSV on Thursday.
To be fair, it is two different organisations calling the shots here. UEFA called off Arsenal-PSV, while the FA/EPL will decide the fate of the domestic games next weekend (together with the police, obviously).

Supposedly we'll have to play PSV instead of City on October 19th if they agreed to it. They could very well refuse, make Arsenal forfeit and lose 3 points in the group
This season will end in 2024.

Other than you know, football fans who would rather watch football.

It's interesting. So does an event being of interest mean other events of interest should not be held? If Messi and Ronaldo make the WC final (God forbid) maybe we should stop all activity around the world? Also there are many icons. It's an irrelevant point and for another thread I suppose. Aside from many more iconic figures who were more positive and interesting for many, I'd even argue that Princess Diana herself was miles more iconoc and relevant when she passed. She was genuinely adored across the world.
Miles more iconic than the person on every single banknote and coin for the past 70 years in almost half the English speaking world and beyond.

It’s the actual end of an Age in Britain with her passing and onto a new one. Messi and Ronaldo are irrelevant to this in the grand scheme going on future historians.

She is someone who will be forever studied as she was the first monarch to be filmed pretty much from birth. It is an age defining event for Britain.

The Queen is adored by most so that is redundant. This is 100% bigger than Diana in the history books but Diana was more a shock created mass hysteria I seem to remember but I was a kid at the time. It was also a great tabloid story in the age of paparazzi who killed her. Different thing.

Bit of a stretch.

Ahh feck off!

Expected. But still a shambles. Two games postponed in what's the most crammed football year in history, because a 96-year-old woman died unexpectedly. Sums it up, to be honest.

Upside is the team will be rested for what will be a brutal marathon leading up to the World Cup. Downside is we start with City. :(

Thanks.

Sounds to me like it's the police that cancelled it.
UEFA probably had very little choice but to call it off, yes.

I expect the FA/EPL will be forced to call off a lot of next weekend's games, again due to policing / logistical issues.

Yeah but in Manchester on a Sunday?

I completely understand London but surely we should be ok up here.
A lot of them (the GMP) will be redeployed.

Police from nine separate forces were drafted in to help with the security operation for the London 2012 Olympics, for example.

Just close your eyes, forget your name
PL Clubs should sue the FA.
It's on the clubs as well, I was just being churlish.

The FA met with / spoke to government at 9:30am the morning after, and were told that any postponements were up to them - they were under no pressure from government to delay the round of fixtures. They met with the clubs at 11:30 and shortly after announced the postponements. The clubs agreed to it (or even suggested it, for all we know).

Expected reasoning being they’re sending officers down to assist in London. Quite remarkable considering less than a month ago London hosted a carnival for 2 million (and a shit tonne of those there purely for trouble) over the course of a bank holiday weekend and the police of Manchester weren’t required. @TheReligion hear of any of your lot coming down for that? I didn’t…
Think about 7000-9000 officers were at the carnival. Is the suggestion therefore that more numbers would be needed for the queens funeral ?

They won't only be relying on London police for the funeral. The whole nations security will be on standby I would assume.

They said today that the PL were meeting with the government on several occasions.
The government are behind this but don't want to be seen as responsible.

I'd be interested to see genuine academic research on the current popularity of the monarchy, in fact. The narrative is of course that we all 'adore' her. This is certainly not true. Or 'him' as I should say now.

Farce of a PL season. A month break before our next game and then it finishes again in November for 6 weeks.

We‘ve essentially got a months worth of games before December 26th (October 3rd - November 12th)

If arsenal is postponed this week then so should Chelsea’s be on Wednesday.

There's going to be a huge number of heads of state and goverment too. That's the difference one would imagine

Not necessarily. UEFA cancelled the Arsenal game due to "severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues ". Just because that is the case on Thursday does not mean its the same the day before.
