Ronaldo's two peak seasons :

13/14 - 1,14 G/90 & 1,52 G+A/90
14/15 - 1,19 G/90 & 1,63 G+A/90

Messi's two peak seasons:
11/12 - 1,25 G/90 & 1,81 G+A/90
12/13 - 1,32 G/90 & 1,70 G+A/90

Haaland for City so far:
22/23 - 1,67 G/90 & 1,97 G+A/90 (Sustainable? We'll find out soon enough)

Unless he breaks his legs, he will break their scoring records. If not this season, then sometime the next 10 seasons.
There we go @Sky1981. Statistics aren't really up to debate. We aren't talking about preferences.

What's nice is that they don't really have much room for improvement results-wise.

Haaland is bloody brilliant when fit and he might just be what they need to go to an imaginary next level where,
it seems from this thread, that they'll win every match 15-0 and bathe in the sun with unicorns around them...

But they're not going to suddenly get 105, 110 points just because they'll field an exceptional striker instead of one of their technical midgets up front.

They'll win the games they usually win most likely, they'll drop points when the pressure is on, and well, they'll probably win another league or finish second and nobody will give a toss about them.

....
A bit stupid quoting yourself, but I vaguely remembered posting something about them signing Haaland as it broke out,
And I was wondering whether I was one of those who thought he'd be shit... genuinely couldn't remember in the slightest what I tough of him.

So while I seem to be on the side of the fence who was right regarding his brilliance, and my ego is patting itself on the back...

I do wonder about my train of thought regarding City's room for improvement with Haaland.

Could an exceptional striker, if fit, take them from ~97 points to over a 100?
Can they actually win, say, 33 of their PL games, or even 34?

If him being there makes it easier for City to win the absolute majority of their games (i.e leading 3-0 still in the first half instead of only deciding the game later in the second half, thus enabling them to reserve more energy as the season wears on),

Will it make it more plausible for them to perform better at one of those challengeing games, away to Pool, Chelsea, Spurs for that matter?

I'll hazard a guess saying they probably won't better their 100 points record.

You made 2 mistakes:

1- Lumping prime Messi and prime Ronaldo in one conversation as if they're equal when they're not. Messi was simply a much better scorer at his peak. His goals/90 mins dwarfed Ronaldo's.

2- Claiming that Haaland isn't as good a scorer as Ronaldo when - again - the numbers indicate that he had a better scoring average than any version of Ronaldo. As a result of having that pointed out to you, you're digressing, discussing "variety of goals".
I'd say this is the bollocks part. Not the stat.

You're making it sounds as if it's fecking Fillipo Inzaghi vs. Leo Messi

Ronaldo is the closest competition to Messi in modern times, saying htey don't even belong in one conversation is bollocks.

I'm waiting for my payout on the 4th condition.

I'm collecting payout for the 3rd condition if failed to meet.

1st 2 I have to fork out money if conditions are met.

are the sums inside the brackets representative of how much you placed on the bet, or how much you'll get should the bet succeed?

I guess number of points isn’t the only indicator, and by that saying it’s possible that a City team ending up with 94 points is be a better team than a City team ending up with 97 points the year before.

Several factors plays an role.
  • Strategy regarding resting players
  • Competitiveness of other teams
  • Other teams form when we play them
  • Luck/Unluck/VAR don’t necessarily equalize during a season.

No doubt his stats are impressive right now, but I think its abit premature to compair him already to the greats, let him play a season first.

He is in insane form, but Ronaldo in 14/15 started with 15 goals after 8 rounds, were he missed 1 game because of yellow cards so he had 15 in 7, so he actually had a better start then Haaland got now.

So abit unfair to take Haaland 8 game vs Messi/Ronaldo 38 game average.

I agree that he prob can match their goal scoring records in a peak season were everything clicks (Maybe already this), scary how he will be if he keeps improving the next 5 years.

Well hoping these beatings we have taken are a bit like the 4-2 at Leicester and 4-0 at Everton in Guardiola's first season while he tried to change their style from Pellegrini to his.
He'll find his feet eventually, I think. There's still a lot of duds in his team and the foundations aren't that solid yet. He'll need at least two seasons to get the team going. If the board give him time, that is.

City are on another planet and Haaland is unplayable at the moment, so a drumming is something any PL team can expect no matter their position on the table. I guess that opponents will eventually find a way to contain him a bit.

Lets not compare a 29 year old at the peak of his powers to a just turned 22 year old in his first ever season in the premier league. Haaland will continue to grow and become a better all round player the longer he plays under Pep alongside KDB, Bernardo etc.

It's obviously premature to bastantly claim the records will be broken already this season, but he is actually already eclipsing the greats' most purple patches of their 20 year long careers and his career numbers per 90 are already better than Messi and Ronaldo's career numbers. He is absolutely crushing their numbers at the same age, so it's actually not premature to compair him to them and play with the thought of what lies ahead.

The 5th of October 2007, (Ronaldo 22 years old), at the start of his Ballon d'or season with us Ronaldo had this numbers in all comps so far that season (seen by many as one of the best ever seasons by a single player in an English club):

1 goal and 0 assists in 177 minutes in the CL
1 goal and 0 assists in 445 minutes in the PL (had been suspended 3 games for a red card)
0 goals and 0 assists in 120 minutes in the Charity Shield
Total 2 goals and 0 assists in 742 minutes - 0,24 G/90 and 0,24 G+A/90

Haaland so far this season (Let's see if he can add to his numbers tonight):

3 goals and 0 assists in 160 minutes in the CL
14 goals and 3 assists in 664 minutes in the PL
0 goals and 0 assists in 90 minutes in the Charity Shield
Total 17 goals and 3 assists in 914 minutes - 1,67 G/90 and 1,97 G+A/90

To make it a bit more fair, here's his start this season compaired to Ronaldo's start of the 14/15 season (his careers best):

2 goals and 1 assists in 180 minutes in the CL
15 goals and 1 asissts in 630 minutes in LaLiga
0 goals and 0 assists in 90 minutes in the Super Copa
Total 17 goals and 2 assists in 900 minutes - 1,7 G/90 and 1,9 G+A/90 (He ended his record season on 1,19 G/90 & 1,63 G+A/90)

Messi's had some patches were he's scored at a similar rate and assisted more, but not at 22.
So it's really not crazy to compair them, and keep in mind this is against the absolute peak patches of the GOATs numbers wise. The absolute peak!
Are we seeing Haalands absolute peak right now? I don't think we do.

He's playing Copenhagen tonight and Saints at home on Saturday....I predict that this thread will be bumped between now and Sunday.

It’s incredible how Pep has literally built a team of CAM’s like Grealish, foden, de bruyne and bernado Silva all around setting up a poacher

It’s sounds so simple but its working.

I like to see them against a top European side first (Madrid, Bayern, psg) but overall yeah, it's sheer simplicity is beautiful.

The deciding factor will really be health. Can't see much else stopping him long term.

Disgusting filthy behaviour continues.

So he’s scored in every single game this season bar one.

Alfie Haaland scored 18 goals for English teams in his career, over the course of ten seasons.

It took Erling 12 games.

At what point does him scoring a goal not become thread bump worthy?
