would they have died? I remember danaerys being fire resistant.
Danny's case was unprecedented. It's not an immunity to fire the Targaryens have, but a higher tolerance to heat than the average person. And Meleys, the Red Queen, isn't to be fecked with. For a non-spoiler comparison, Daenerys' Drogon from GoT would not have stood a chance against Meleys. Anyway, the expression on their faces showed that they didn't really fancy their chances either.

Should have ended the episode on Aegon's coronation. The Rhaenys moment ranks there with one of the stupidest things I've seen in GOT and that's saying something.
Agree. It was bloody stupid. The show is very good, the tension builds up nicely, they had a big coronation scene to show off with, they did not need a silly Hollywood set piece at the end with a stupid fake out to make it a good episode. It was GOT at its worst.
That whole dragon coming from underneath scene was absolutely stupid. Reminded me of season 7-8 GoT, so dumb and I'm sure this scene was not in the book at all.
I guess it was necessary for what's to come but it could have been executed better.

Not all of them are.

Targaryens die from fire all the time, Daenerys’s immunity has to do with blood magic, she herself got burned several times.

They are also somewhat resistant to common afflictions, but not immune, quite a few of them died to plagues.

That was a strange ending. What was the point of busting in with the dragon then? Just to show she could? If she was basically starting a war there she could have ended it straight away.

Episode felt a bit all over the place.

The weird daughter reminds me of the uni girl April that Mark dates in Peep Show. Also was weird seeing the kid from Shameless running round as two people.

Cristin the **** is one of the most headbuttable characters on TV.

Also, why did he crown and announce the king? Seems a job for someone like his Mother or the Hand.

I guess he was the new head of the Kingsguard or whatever it’s called. Still felt odd.

It could have been a decent idea, had it been not executed so poorly. But, to answer your question, there was a purpose to her decision.

If you pay close attention, Alicent gives Blackfyre, the sword of Aegon the Conqueror, to her son for his coronation. After that, the crown placed on his head by Ser Criston isn't the same crown Viserys was wearing during his reign. His was a golden crown with the sigils of all the Great Houses engraved on it as a symbol of peace and unity. Aegon II wears The Conqueror's (first) crown. The one with which he proclaimed himself King of the Seven Kingdoms. A warrior's crown, black with red rubies as a symbol of Targaryen purity. The greens are trying to get a message through: We are the pure Targaryen blood, and there'll be no peace with anyone who opposes us. Rhaenys recognizes the symbols and decides to spit in their faces.

By not killing them, she's doing Rhaenyra a favour. She also declares, rather spectacularly, where her allegiance lies. Without revealing anything, this isn't the first time Targaryens fight Targaryens. The first time it happened, vile atrocities were committed, unspeakable brutalities took place, terror ruled the land and the Targaryen dynasty came close to collapsing. The man responsible for the bloodshed was anathematized in Westeros, and became an example to avoid in his own House. Another important detail is that he also was a brother trying to take the throne from his nephews. With civil war at the door, the blacks don't want the first Targaryen blood to be on their hands.

I guess it’s easier when so much time passes in just one series but I’m impressed with how many interesting relationship dynamics they’ve been able to create between so many characters this time around. It seems like there is a smaller core or characters than in GoT (could be completely wrong) but almost every one of them has a very particular relationship to another.

How do you propose to have her escape with her dragon? It's not like they could leave the regular way.

I thought it was outside somewhere. Where was it being kept and why was she able to just walk down some easily accessible stairs to get to it.

Tbf how much security do dragons need really? There's only a handful of people in the city who wouldn't be killed if they got near one, of that handful Rhaenys is the only one team aegon need to worry about and as far as they knew Rhaenys was locked up in the palace. Not sure anyone else trying to get down there is really an issue.

What was the deal with the children fighting in the pit? Was the little blond kid one of Aegon’s bastards?
Yeah, it was to illustrate how reprehensible Aegon actually is - he bastards little kids and leaves them as bait in child fighting pits.

It also laid the side-story tension point between the White Worm (the lady with the worst accent ever) and Otto.

It hilarious how they have a performance like Considine's and her's in the same show.

I'm trying hard not to hate on her too much but she was atrocious in Devs and now she's awful in this. Not sure how she keeps getting work.

Can't stand the self intitled cnut. He goes on about the Queens intercessions but who took her cherry? He gets away with killing who he wants but he's a nobody.
This is one gripe I have. How did he get away with killing that guy at the wedding AND assaulting the King consort -in-waiting? It's a huge plot hole for me.

There's a few plot holes that don't get tied up because of the time jumps. I'm not happy about them but wont let them ruin the show for me.

the dragons are kept in an underground pit. Remember the young prince walking in and seeing it in the dark hallway chained up?

She was being kept 'prisoner' in the castle, the kingsguard guy had to help her escape through a secret exit. I can only assume maybe the dragon guards didn't actually know she wasn't allowed to leave? maybe the kingsguard told them to move aside or killed them. I guess that's left open to the imagination.

I think this show is being a bit over rated now tbh. With GOT I absolutely loved it by the end of Episode 2. This has felt like hard work in comparison and it really fell apart for me with the time jumps / actor changes.

There's some great acting and some good scenes but overall it's been a bit boring really. The only character I actually cared about is now also dead. That never helps.

I will stick with it and hope for better in the finale and further seasons but it's not blown me away at all.
that's interesting. I hated the early part of GoT S1. took me 2 years to get through episode 1 literally. I only persisted because my mates forced me to persist and by episode 6 I became a fan. Found it cheesy, cheap looking and boring early on. With this story most of the story is during the actual Dance of the Dragons. This is mostly the build up.

Should have ended the episode on Aegon's coronation. The Rhaenys moment ranks there with one of the stupidest things I've seen in GOT and that's saying something.

It wasn't in the book. I think I know why they did it based on what comes later on. But still could have just bounced with her dragon no drama needed.

That scene was the highlight of the show but some loved it while some hated it. She was basically challenging them and I think she connects with Rhaenyra more now. They're in the same exact situation where men are trying to take the crown meant for a woman and she's had enough.
