Are they any worse than Brightons players? There’s around 7/8 players we were all 100 percent sure would fail miserably at Ten Hag ball yet here we are.
Young and hungry vs aging and rich. This Chelsea side just dont put the extra mile in.

Think they'll turn it around after the WC, they're missing quite a lot of their defence.

Wouldn't call him a fraud either, his style of play is different to Tuchels, like ten Hag to Ole/Rangnick and there's always going to be teething problems when that happens.

Set them up so negatively today
Really poor from the manager
He set them up with a small club mentality looking for a draw
So disappointed in his tactics so far

Ten Hag had us purring three games in? Potter has been there a good 2 months now and it looks even worse than before he joined

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

Had Silva and Cucurella on the bench… must have been fit as both came on?

And doesn’t really explain their attacking play … but if you’re going to play Mount and Gallagher (Southgates darlings), you deserve everything you get. Can’t believe they spent £240m on four players (unlucky with Fofana) and you look at their teamsheet and think … meh.

Purring after three games? We lost our first two.

Silva is just coming back from injury I think, Cucurella likely dropped.

I don’t blame potter though. Look at what point he’s come in.
Oh I agree. He needs time and has inherited a Frankenstein monster squad full of random players but I don’t think this will save him since they’re reportedly already buying hundreds of millions worth of players for next season. They need top 4 and if they fall too far back he’ll be gone.
also guarantees a Ronaldo move in January imo

Yes. Our third game was Liverpool at home then we went on a run. Potter has been there long enough. I remember all the way back when the Queen died and they had two weeks off, those two weeks were supposed to be when he fast tracks his style imprint in the team but they’re gotten worse. If you told me this was Potters first game at Chelsea I’d believe you

Trouble for Potter. Some decent performances in the CL have masked their poor form domestically til this week. Three wins, then two draws, then three defeats in the league, (plus the league cup defeat). One goal from open play in the last five games, and they haven't looked like they're going to score more.

I felt all along that all he'd done is cheer people up a bit without fixing any of the basic problems at Chelsea, particularly a lack of attacking intensity. That seems to be panning out just now. They're not getting into good positions but missing chances, which is usually the sign of a well coached attacking team that lacks firepower. They just look lethargic and wooden whenever they go forward, completely lacking in ideas.

Even though it's shit to leave the league on a low, he'll be glad of the break. He'll be hoping he can change the momentum a bit. But he faces both City and Liverpool soon after coming back (in fact he might have Liverpool twice in a week in Jan due to the cancelled fixture). Add a really tough run in (includes United, Arsenal and City away and Brighton, Brentford and Newcastle at home) and top four looks really tough to manage. Would he survive that?

The way they are doing things is strange.

A few people got shouted down by mentioning comparisons to Ed Woodward in the market but the more you look at it the more you have to connect the two.

They have to essentially replace their two CMs and find some forwards for next season. Will cost a fortune and won’t even scrape the sides.

Doesn't help their squad is absolutely awful

The only Chelsea players who would make our XI are the permainjured FB's James and Chilwell (and this one is debatable)
Chilwell over Shaw? No way.

Please give Potter until the end of season. No point getting rid of him now.

Haven't the main ones people put in that category (AWB, Maguire, McTominay) had their role significantly reduced?

I love what's happening at Chelsea, don't get me wrong, but you have to cut him some slack. He's been there like a month, no preseason, no players of his choosing, nothing. He was thrust right in the thick of it.

Nevertheless, I personally think he went too deep too soon. Brighton have a working structure. Chelsea are in a state of great chaos. And the pressure and demands are far greater. Should have gone for a medium job first, like Aston Villa or Leicester.

And I still maintain sacking Tuchel was a monumentally idiotic decision. I really don't care what the reasons were, a way through them should have been found.

Yet you said this in late August….

They're not rubbish, they're very well coached just missing that clinical goal scorer. It's been the only thing holding them back up till now
I always find it funny how recent results can massively change a person’s perception on a squad. Gone from a clinical goalscorer being the only thing holding them back to “their squad is absolutely awful”, in just 2.5 months.

I said they were “meh” at best in the Summer and that FdJ joining them over United would’ve been utterly bizarre considering how often they have shitter league finishes even than United.

They should really go for Maguire in January to shore up that defence…

Scott has actually been really good but Casemiro simply better. Even DDG has been sweeping up and playing it out as of late, Varane looked washed. Dalot, Shaw, Bruno and Rashford are really the main 4 the majority of the fanbase throught would have to be shipped out. Imo Martial trumps them all because 100 percent of us thought he would have to go but he’s been sensational under Ten Hag when he plays.

On FDJ. If he was looking at both clubs now he’d be crazy to consider Chelsea.

Funny how things can change!

You bolded the wrong part of my quote, the difference between then and now as that they no longer have an elite coach at the helm

He has 5 of his own signings around - that makes a huge difference - it's almost half a team. If ETH had the same exact bunch as we had last season, I reckon it would be an uphill struggle too

They have however players like De Gea, Dalot, Rashford etc have all improved.

It’s been a bit of a balance really.
Dalot has always been good technically from what I've seen and while I don't rate Rashford as highly as many he certainly has a skillset that be utilised in systems.

Fair enough on DDG I'll admit I thought he'd be a lost cause is a possesion based system.

That’s why I’m not really blaming Potter but those 5 signings still have to be integrated and that’s still a huge task in itself. Even then Eriksen has fallen a way a bit and Antony has hardly played. I wouldn’t say 5 signings have had a huge bearing on how he has us playing.

Of course it has, Antony out has hurt our performances, imagine if we didn't have Casemiro and Martinez? Even Eriksen.

You just need to look at the first half vs Villa a couple of days ago to know what we'd have been suffering, ETH or not.
