Is Ronaldo justified to say that he “feels betrayed” by Manchester United?

I have no idea either, yet.
Yeah, and like, sometimes I am a bit surprised honestly by how Ronaldo is viewed. I’ve followed him closely almost his entire career. From his first game for us.

How can anyone be surprised? For good and for bad, this is who he is. For good and for bad. Ronaldinho’s prime career was what 6 years? Ronaldo’s prime career was what, 10-12 years? Romário’s prime career was about the same. Rooney’s prime career was what 10-12 years. Maradonna’s prime lasted what, 8-10 years.

Ronaldo has played at the highest level for 19 years. Nineteen effin years. No real dip.

He will never stop fighting. Fading away after being benched in favor of Martial at a non-CL team won’t do it. He knows what he is doing, and he will accept the challenge. Nobody believes in him, nobody wants him, he will make sure everyone is aware of it — and aim to turn it around. He would play for 10 more years if he could.

But facts are, there will be an end of road for Christiano Ronaldo too. Nobody is immortal. His end could come soon, or he could pull it off and rescue his career. But this is how he works. He won’t “accept it”. He have never accepted anything. For good and for bad. Why are we surprised?

I don't think anyone is surprised.

I don't know what more he wanted the club to do during his time off in the pre-season.

He states it's because his newborn daughter was sick. I believe him. The club gave him time off and didn't comment on it publicly at all. ETH said he'd be integrated back into the squad once he returned.

It's literally what transpired.

What more does he want? I've got a bridge to sell you if you think Ronaldo didn't want to leave in the summer. He definitely wanted to leave.

And we've seen numerous signs of his unprofessionalism just this season alone. Left a pre-season game early. Refused to come on vs Spurs. Left that game early. And just recently, he feigned being sick to not even show up for the Fulham game.

I mean, how can people defend this guy honestly?

https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2008/jun/21/manchesterunited.premierleague1 - He's always been all about himself.

what’s weird is united would have zero problem letting him go last summer…but no one wanted him.

I’d be interested how each of these snippets piece together in the full length piece.
I reckon we have seen anything remotely interesting already at this point and the rest is going to be insignificant nonsense.

Yeah, it seems that worst of what he said came out first. He has said a lot of nice things about the club and fans as well.

Yeah I agree. But it’d just be interesting because it’ll add context around how it flowed out. It’s not going to change my opinions mind. But it’ll be fascinating.

This is exactly what I’m thinking, the clips make no sense in isolation. I doubt they’ll make sense in a 90 minute puff piece but I’m curious to see how they all link together, currently it’s all abit erratic.

He'd have to be an utterly spineless one to think keeping him should be an option
Preparing contract termination*

HEY GUYS, Fabrizio Romano here bringing you the latest updates ahead of the Transfer Window. On the player side. Cristiano Ronaldo is still a massive twat. He wants to leave Manchester United but not a single club in Europe is interested in a 38 year old baby. Jorge Mendes his agent has been carrying around a cardboard cutout of Ronaldo to all the major clubs. I'm told that all the clubs think Rooney is better looking.

I thought that this summer. Him essentially going on strike was code for he had an agreement to go to a new club which I would have been perfectly fine with, since that’s how that game goes.

So I was surprised when nothing happened. His legacy would have been untarnished if he did leave then. He would have had a good encore season for us. His immediate goals don’t match up with our longer term goals so let us mutually part etc.
he clearly had a deal lined up with Chelsea and expected it to go through. Tuchel kicked off and refused it though so they backed out.

The timeline makes sense as he came grovelling back once all the options closed off

So the main learning out of this interview is that Ronaldo and Morgan are a perfect fit...

He is complaining that he felt that they were not supportive enough, but from what they said in the media at the time (and also more recently) it seems they were pretty respectful...

I for one am shocked that the people of Portugal can see no wrong with anything that man has ever done.
People from Argentina can never seen anything wrong with Maradona as well, and he is about 100 times worst in causing controversy.

I'm not one to lecture people on what they should and shouldn't discuss but why the feck has this thread got well over 100 pages? We're playing Piers Morgan's game for him here. Ronaldo was a world class player worth accommodating in any squad, now he isn't and he's decided to create a media circus around himself that, barb at the Glazers notwithstanding, is not in the interests of this club, its current staff and its fans.

'If you don't like the thread, don't post', is fair advice but I'm absolutely sick of any and all news lines in the aftermath of a pretty cool last minute winner from a promising young player being dominated by this fecking horseshit. feck off Ronaldo, feck off Morgan.

What offers? We need to terminate his contract. It is not Glazer's concern where Ronaldo goes, just as long as he's not here anymore. If he's waiting for an actual offer as in someone offering money to buy Ronaldo from us then he's going nowhere. Those offers don't exist.

If this thing comes out and it turns out Piers doesn't at least ask him why he holds such strong opinions about Ten hag I'll know he conducted this interview like an idiot. There's no justification but I'd actually like insight as to what warped expectations Ronaldo is holding on to.

Those comments about ETH are the real point of no return, the others at a stretch could somewhat, maybe have at least been rationalised as frustration without the territory of blatant disrespect. It's hard to fathom what exactly is disrespectful in how he has been managed.

The problem is if we terminate his contract we'd still have to pay him unless he agrees to a mutual termination, I think he'd only do that if he had another club lined up ready to match his wages

No chance Piers Morgan will question it, remember the bullshit he came out with about Ten Hag should be sacked for putting Ronaldo on the bench earlier in the season

He wants us to settle him. He basically wants to take his man united contract to his new team. I don't envy whomever is going to handle that negotiation because after they insist the club won't pay him to leave they'll be blamed for holding up Ronaldo's move.

I always felt he has been a bellend even in his first stint with us but now he is scraping the bottom of the barrel and don’t want him in a Utd shirt ever again.

I don't even expect him to question it, just ask for details because it's baffling. Probably not baffling to Piers I guess because he has been slagging ETH all season. He too is deluded.

I'm no lawyer, but surely if he is in breach of his contract we do not have to honor it? Why would we have to pay to terminate his contract if he breaks it?
