Yay or nay? And if you're going add that much, why not just have an in-play clock?

I get the need to address time wasting, but the added time has been getting ridiculous

Stoppage time has always been too short. We've seen from the studies that the ball is only in play for 50 odd minutes and they don't add on 30+

I agree though that the real solution is to stop the clock when the ball is out of play and end it dead on 90 mins.

Although that in itself could create issues. Players are conditioned to play about 60 minutes per match. Making them play a full 90 would cause major fatigue and injury problems.

It's better than before, but hopefully they will soon realise this is a bit of madness as well and they need to switch to 2x30' with time stoppages.

It's great. Qatar's not getting another world cup in this millennia, they may as well milk it for all the time they can get.

Add 15 minutes on too each half, add another 15 per half when it goes to extra time, and soon you'll start having 200 minute matches. The team with the most players still alive at the end wins, solidarity with the migrant workers.

I'm totally 100 per cent in favour of it. Had enough of going to games where there's barely any football. Our home tie against Newscastle this season was the straw that broke the camel's back. Constant time wasting; I think there was a stat saying the ball was only in play for 40 minutes or something like that? Ridiculous.

There's room for improvement, and in-play clock seems a logical next step, but this is a good start.

Huge yay and I think it'll lead eventually to an in-play clock.

Best thing to happen to the game in ages. I’ve always argued that refs have the tool to deal with time wasting. It just shows it’s been a conscious decision not to do it.

If they do that, they need to reduce the time played. There needs to be a solution but the players couldn't do 90 minutes of full playing time without drastically reducing the intensity, which would make for a boring spectacle.

I'm all for it. The way it should be with all the time-wasting we see left and right.

Like but would prefer the clock to stop. I think that would be more effective for time wasting.

I'm a fan of it so far.

Too much time is wasted in football nowadays and it's a good way to try and resolve these issues.

I’m all for it, the likes of Newcastle have been taking the piss with it recently, think our home game against only had 50 minutes of play.

All for it. Might stop teams like Newcastle from fecking around so much. Haven’t been watching the WC though so no idea how frustrating it is in reality.

Absolutely yes. Why would anyone be against it?! If teams stop time wasting then the added time will naturally reduce too...

Why is it ridiculous? It’s ridiculous to give 3-5 minutes regardless of what happens in the game.

It is great - people are mentioning time wasting etc., but, before that, VAR has never been taken account of in extra time. We have lost a stupid amount of football to VAR with no time made up at the end of the game.

We are finally seeing extra time increased to give us the same amount of football we used to watch pre-VAR.

In-play clock will lead to excessive media timeouts, like you see in American sports. I realize it's the most obvious solution, but be careful what you wish for. We know all the governing bodies are greedy and will pounce on the opportunity for an additional revenue stream.

It may not eliminate time wasting if the team needing a goal starts time wasting to get more time on the clock so they can score.

Its great. I didn't notice any news that they were going to do this but its a good change. Tired of the typical 4 minutes after the ball has barely been in play in the second half

This is the best solution.

They should communicate the time added on in injury time - hold up the board again and change the TV graphic, at least, for transparency.

The KSA injury near the end of the game took about 3 minutes to clear up - no idea where the 6 minutes came from to take us from 8 added minutes to 14.

With fully air-conditioned stadiums, perhaps it could work everywhere.

Health risk aside, intentions aren't bad. Waste time = play more minutes.

Yup, I've long been in favour of this idea. I can only hope this is the first step towards that goal.

That doesn't really fit the mentality out there though I reckon. Stop yourselves from building up momentum so you can have more time to start the process over?

Hopefully it will make teams less likely to blatently time waste. Of course its going to make extra time interesting, we are going to end up with 2 and a half hour games.

Like it, but they should persist with so it becomes the norm and players cut the bull and just play.

The alternative is introducing a stop watch format that is present in futsal and other such indoor sports (volleyball, basketball etc etc).

Although to be honest I might miss the shithousery on offer with some teams

It's great but then if you're adding injury time on injury time, they either need to update the timer because it creates confusion and no one knows how much the ref is playing until.
