Wales couldn’t get any control of the game from start to finish. Iran deserved the victory and were rampant in the second half.

Hats off to Iran. Especially when you think what these players are going through mentally with everything that is going on politically back home. The very least they deserved. Only 2-0 but in reality should have been 6 or 7 and you can’t disagree with that.

Wales are a bunch of absolute bottle jobs. Shame as I wanted them to do well after a very long wait to qualify for a World Cup. I thought they’d give it their all in this World Cup but they’ve well & truly crumbled.
I thought they gave as much as they have to be honest. They just lack the quality.

Joe Allen came on and provided two assists. Clearly man of the match.

That Wales squad is awful looking. The old boys in it for the farewell tour. Fecking Chris Gunter still plays for them and he’s a League 2 player these days.

Are we still explain England‘s performance with Iran being the worst team?
Iran played far better, there general play was just much more competent than it was against England. Of course England put far more pressure on Iran and thats partly why Iran cracked, but they just *were* better than the other day.

Even more so after getting hammered in the opening game by England.

Everyone said they were weak and fragile yet they won every battle today and deserved the win.

Great mental strength.

They all keep saying wales fought until the end and fought like warriors.
Its weird, they werent playing spain or france or brazil. They should be able to compete and have a go.

Unfortunately, there's basically nobody else. Our second string guys are League One players. You need Bale there basically for set pieces/pens.

Leaving Ramsey on the pitch the whole time was just unforgiveable, though.
I understand mate. My biggest complaint is the lack of professionalism by Bale and Ramsey. Bale gave a lot to Wales but these last 2 to 3 years were complete waste. He did qualify Wales by himself so perhaps this is the realistic outcome.

I just hope it's not a humiliation against England. It would be unbearable for my Welsh mates.

I think this makes Englands performance more impressive. Iran aren’t as bad as the first match made them look.
Don't want to take anything away from England but Iran are really bad. This match was like two bad teams fighting out who can make less mistakes at the end. And Wales did with a massive brainfart by their GK, and paid the price. Otherwise this match had 0-0 draw all over it.

Shame Ukraine couldn't get past the last hurdle. Would have been a fairytale story to see Ukraine vs Iran two countries that are going through so much shit back home. Well done and congrats Iran. Good result for England as well as this means USA can't sit back now.

The seeding system was ridiculous with Portugal and Italy ending up in the same path and Wales having such an easy group…
Yes, it would have seemed ridiculous, usually, but considering Italy failed to beat North Macedonia, there can't really be any complaints about the run as they didn't even get to Portugal.

In the end, any big national side can only blame themselves for not qualifying through the group stage, so I don't have sympathy.

Fair play to Iran. Great performance & result after the hammering they got in the first game.
Both goals were very well finished.
Big disappointment for Wales.

This is correct. If Bale can't produce a bit of magic or knock in a penalty, we're mostly stuffed. We just don't have the pool of players. Maybe Uruguay and Croatia are very big exceptions, but few countries of 3m people are going to pull up any trees. Qualifying for tournaments fairly regularly in the last few years is in itself the massive achievement for us.

It's like if England could only field players from West Yorkshire.

Wales were awful, but they'll all raise their game against England and look competent, which will lead to the inevitable semi-patronising rubbish on the Beeb "Wales show they belong" etc etc

Did you even watch the game? Prior to the red card, Iran should have scored they were pretty much the better team.

Did they? Bale and Ramsey were jogging around at times. Daniel James was Daniel James. One-dimensional and predictable. For that 2nd goal, I hardly saw any Welsh player sprinting back. Iran had 4 making the runs.

Gareth Bale is washed. Can barely move or trap the ball.
“Writes his own scripts” apparently though after scoring the penalty against the US

He’s done, he scored an important goal in the MLS final but he’s done. England will probably be his last game before he retires

The lack of desire from the Welsh players to get back for that second goal was a disgrace.

The goalscorer for Iran started off well behind many of them in his own area and no one could be bothered to track him back.
