In terms of food, I guess a major plus point for the UK / the largest UK cities, is the wide range and quality of internal cuisines available. I live in Leeds, and am in very close proximity to Italian, Indian, French, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Greek, Spanish, Mexican, Portuguese, Turkish, Lebanese, Persian, Polish, Jamaican, Brazilian, Cuban etc. restaurants.
We'll all have different views on which cuisines we think have amazing flavours, and which ones we find land. I recently went to Italy for the first time since I was a kid. When I was kid I thought that Italian food was great. However since then I branched out, tried and started to love food from Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Iran etc., and in comparison I thought that Italian food was quite bland (a lot of dishes use very few ingredients and have not been modified or adapted for generations), boring and fairly limited. My favourite meal was in an Indian restaurant, when I was relieved to have more flavour.
