Seems like you'd take the risk on him if he had a year left and was gonna cost like 30M, because going 1 in 2 the last 4 years in Serie A from age 22-25 really is a nice resume for a striker, probably projects as a 2 in 3 type at his peak in Serie A and a 1 in 2 in the Prem type. Higuain had a slightly better record and was technically better, but he has a little bit more mobility, though only for 3-4 more years.
I don't mind buying the donkey of the World Cup, we'd have done well to get Higuain after the 2014 World Cup when he had his first brush with losing immortality, he still had 4 quality seasons in him. But the time to get him was when he left Madrid, same it was with Robben, Sneijder, Kovacic, Llorente, Hakimi, Theo Hernandez. You could make a nice XI if you add Navas in net, Varane at CB along with Albiol (has been shockingly pretty good, especially in deep lines) the last half decade and Cristiano, who we should have signed when Juve did instead of after. Or Callejon if you want to look at value, as he was 9M and scored a large number of goals and would have been a quality #3 winger here filling in on both sides (Right footed RW, probably could have been a similar goal threat at least on the left).
I guess my takeaway is that wow Reinier has 5 goals in 7 for Girona in La Liga? We should sign him up, and maybe not completely rule out Dani Ceballos having a nice peak in his late 20s.
