Gaz. Is a Mewling Quim.
The bitterness on this page does make me giddy with laughter on occasion:

Antony scores 8 in 23 appearances for Ajax last season, has scored only 3 in the Premier League, Nil in the Europa League and costs £80 million.

Gapko scored 12 goals in 27 appearances for PSV in the same season (in arguably a weaker side) , m scored 9 already this season and 5 in the Europa League yet costs only £37 million.

It looks like Liverpool have got the much better deal in a position they needed.
Why would United go for Gakpo in a position they definitely don’t need?

It’s the dumbest equivalency going, yet morons are going to keep spouting it as some gotcha without realising it makes them look like Scarecrows dumber brother

I’m not bothered about this in the slightest.

At LW, Rashford, Garnacho and Sancho is overkill as it is. Martial also prefers to cut in from the left as well.

I’m more concerned about the briefs that we didn’t have the money to sign him.

We have to do everything possible to bring in a striker. As things stand, I just don’t see enough goals in this side to get top 4.

Don't they always say don't sign someone off what you see in tournament football. I am not too bothered about missing this lad, but we need a striker. We do not score enough goals and too many of our forward options are injury prone, a bit prone to drops in confidence or completely unproven in the PL. Toney would have been perfect, the silly, silly boy.

I'm not bothered about him going there over us really, like many others have commented - not entirely sure he's what we need.

I am bothered about that price though... £37m? That seems incredibly cheap mid-season and after a strong world cup. I know it's something of a baseless claim, but I feel like there is zero chance we'd have got him for that much, and that does annoy me somewhat.

It wouldn’t have made sense for us to take Gakpo. We are already stacked in his position. Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho and even Martial can all play there. Put the money towards a CF and a CM

It would be a bigger blow if FDJ became available and Liverpool got him from under Uniteds nose

What are those no money briefs?

I’ve not seen any, other than one suggesting the money would be better spent on a 9 (and I agree with that if the club had reservations)

It's a weird one isn't it.

Most would agree that he's not a player we needed at all, but the United PR machine has been talking it up for weeks.

To me it seems as another one EtH would have been happy with as part of his drive to evolve the squad, but the powers that be were complacent and didn't feel the need to move right now - which is fine in a world where they don't use mouthpieces online to talk it up.

My view is I'm not particularly bothered, but it's another example of the need to stop briefing the press about transfers. We know it happens, and it's just juvenile at this point, especially when the end result is a player ending up at Liverpool. I don't think he was particularly high on our list, but the outside world will just run with a narrative now.
Is it United briefing or the press making it up?

This was tweeted 2 weeks ago

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Simon Jones at the Daily Mail has said we have no money hours after it came out Gakpo was joining Liverpool - a plant pot has better sources but obviously it’s taken as gospel.

Now I haven’t heard these briefs, but would it not be significantly worse to announce to the world “LOOK HOW MUCH MONEY WE HAVE” before walking into a negotiation?

One more "supports football" fan posting only about Liverpool and believes dumb Howard Webb conspiracy theory

This is where we need to get new owners in quick and them announce the plans for United. Someone incredibly rich. At the moment we are stagnating and Liverpool have a head start, even though they are also for sale, they win things, more often than us are in CL. In fact win the CL and get to the final and they have Klopp who is now PL proven. ETH is still finding his way.

Ahh right.

I tend to give Nurse more credibility given he said United wouldn’t be signing Gakpo on the 10th and has since backed it up and explained they didn’t make a bid as they weren’t convinced he was the right fit.

He only scored 3 in the Europa league!

Where do we find said plant pot for the latest scoop?

Given the limited funds at our disposal, Gakpo was never the correct signing. We desperately need a no. 9 and I'd rather we put whatever limited money we have, in that direction.

He'll do well for Liv, but I don't think he will be as outstanding as their other forwards and it just goes to show that even the luch vaunted selection criteria at Liv is being thrown out the door to just get someone in!

While Liverpool are slowly building up a solid squad with 15-20 proven world class players like City, some in here are saying no problem we have Elanga and Garnacho.
If Liverpool gets Bellingham also we can forget about catching up on them for the next many years
Why would us having Garnacho be representative of us falling behind? I wouldn't swap Garnacho for Gakpo in a million years.

The pant wetting in here over Liverpool signing this guy is hilarious.

Edit. Also, Gakpo is not a proven world class player, and Liverpool don't have 15-20 established world class players. You need to chill out.

I think it was fairly obvious that we prioritised Anthony. A few fair thoughts that is UTD fans need to accept though. Though I doubt we went for Gapko for January it’s obvious we considered him if we couldn’t get Anthony. ETH said RW was a priority area that was obviously needed for years.

However as UTD fans we need to accept on the pitch for the last 5 years Pool have been one of the top teams in Europe. One Champions league and one PL. A few runners up spots in both. We haven’t got near. On the pitch and off the pitch we’ve been a bit of a disaster.

ETH looks like the man to change this but we are still early, let’s be happy with where we are compared to how it looked at the end of last season/ the first two games of this season. This year depending on if Klopp signs a midfielder and we actually get that striker, we could overtake them on the pitch and with the sale coming, the future is looking bright again.

Would be smart to get Sancho pushing Anthony for the right forward slot. For me, Sancho played his best football for Dortmund there.
Sancho is good back up on both sides although Garnacho could completely block Sancho on the left. Right now in Rashford, Antony, Sancho and Garnacho we’re the strongest we’ve been out wide in years so a fully fit striker to challenge/upgrade on Martial is the priority.

A shocking development but let's focus on what we need which is a striker.

definitely a punt worthy price. don’t think he’ll usurp Diaz though. kudus the only one that looks impressive of all these attackers coming out the Dutch league recently imo

Strongly believe ETH must have confirmed Gapko that united is not buying his service in Jan and then Liverpool deal expedited.

A, we clearly don’t have the money after the insane spending this summer

B, we don’t need another player whose best position is out wide but maybe able to learn to play though the middle.

Romano got exposed on this one. He should have known that the player was a step away from signing with the rats

Summary of this thread:

Before Liverpool signing…he’s not good enough. Extremely overrated. Could never raise to the level of the Prem. He’s soft…

After Liverpool signing…we lost out again. Terrible recruitment. We will never get quality players. He’ll score 20+ in the Prem. Exactly the type of player we needed…
Remember when people on Caf moaned "we should have signed him" when Liverpool signed Nunez? Nunez went on to win BallonDor and scored 15 goals in one World Cup. They knew what they were talking about and this time they will be proven right again.
It's all so predictable. I remember somebody in the summer going into overdrive whinging about us signing Antony when we could've had Nunez if we were run properly.

All the best narratives have come out since last night. Gakpo is now the perfect striker for us, despite never playing there for PSV. United could never get a deal like this done, despite the well documented news that PSV were willing to sell for under £50m due to their financial difficulties. All objectivity goes out of the window if a rival team enters the fray and takes a player we've been linked with, no matter how loose those links are.

Romano has been doing this for a while now.
I watched Romanos actual video before the Liverpool news. Early yesterday and if I'm not mistaken all he said was Gakpo has had no issues agreeing with United but the clubs have not agreed anything and it's up to United to show the money.

He's been consistent if I'm not wrong.

I think he's good but will be more what Liverpool needed than us.

Jota's fitness, Salah and Firminho in their 30s now and Nunez with plenty still to prove even if hes starting to score some goals.

I expect Salah, Diaz and Gakpo to compete for the 2 wide places most weeks. Think he'll be good for that
