In the latest episode of the United Hour Podcast, Nik (@Rood) was joined by comedian Ali Woods to look back at the best and worst moments of a rollercoaster season with the annual United Hour Awards.
Has Ten Hag been sacked yet? We're not sure and we hope not, but it's looking more likely as the days pass.

I think they do, but they're weirdly taking a hard stance on there being no option to buy, whilst charging a large loan fee and expecting the buyer to cover all the wages as well.
I can't see that remaining the case if they actually need to move him on.

I guess it's the opening gambit and they're hoping someone would be desperate enough to take the first opportunity given to steal a march. Problem is the only teams that would go for that, Felix is never going to want to go to (I'm looking at you Villa).

They're clearly having FOMO. If they're worried about losing a talent then they should just fire simeone and sign a more progressive coach.

In addition to the Glazer issue, the overspending on our transfers over the last few years is now catching up with us.
It's not about affordability. It's daft to make signings while the club is up for sale.

It caught up with us a while back meaning we had windows like 20/21.
The overspend in the summer was beyond what we can afford on a regular basis. There was always going to be consequences for this window and beyond.
This sucks. Hope no one will go for Enzo in Jan. And this also means it might be Depay for the 9 position unless we can afford the loan fee for Felix. fecking Glazers
A net spend of more than half a billion euros in the last 4 years with the aim of scraping top 4 isn't overspending? The club at the end of September had £24m in cash yet still owed more than £300m on previous transfers, a loan at best to offer cover up front for the rest of the season was always the only reasonable expectation for January.
No because most of that spend came from last season and even then 120m odd a summer shouldn’t be that much for a club of our stature and finances.
I partly blame Ten Hag for this. We spent a lot last summer but sold nobody because he wanted to assess the squad himself. We should have sold Harry, Fred, AWB and the like which would have greatly brought the spend down. We’ll probably do this next summer and it’ll look like we’re selling to buy when, In reality, we would be selling players that had no business lasting one more season with us.
Edit go back further and out spend evens out even more. I’ve never heard or fanbase say we spent too much under the Glazers. That’s a new one to me

Last summer was the biggest but not many of the signings from 2021 or 2019 have really worked out to this point (2020 was just a very odd summer window by us). The 3 players you've listed were bought in either 2018 or 2019, they're examples of the overspending, while we've shown no ability to get money in from sales so I'm not sure any funds will be massively increased by selling 30 year olds in Fred (who will only have a year left on his contract) and Maguire. If football was actually fair then United would have been punished a lot more for years of absolutely dreadful transfer activity (and managerial appointments) but the disparity in wealth means they've at least been able to stay a fringe top 4 side for the last decade.
Not being able to spend this January is understandable. Owners are about to sell and do not want to sink more money into the club. Plus a lot of money has been wasted over the years on awful signings. Before Ten Hag's group i'd say only Bruno and maybe Shaw has been close to being a success and yet the club has spent over a billion pounds on players since 2013. Even in Ten Hag's group question marks are already being raised on the most expensive of all the signings. That is simply not sustainable for any club. If this was a normal job, the guy in charge of investments might have been sued by shareholders for gross financial mismanagement.
Ten Hag was backed more than any new manager has ever been backed. He will have to work with what he has. If he can't get the best out of a multi-million pounds squad then he has to look to the academy for players who are standing out and include them in the first team.

Approximate numbers:
Antony £85 million
Sancho £80 million
Maguire £80 million
AWB £50 million
There are a few more where I think we overpaid by £5-10 million here and there.
All of these things add up. My issue isn’t with how much we have spent in total, it’s how much we have spent on certain players who are clearly not worth that kind of money.
If we were better in that department then perhaps we could have got the likes of Gakpo at £37 million. However, I don’t think it can be argued that we aren’t an efficient footballing operation behind the scenes.

And then what? Have one right back and three central defenders? I guess Fred is the only one you can make a case for selling without needing to use the money to buy a replacement straight away. He’s played 18 times so far this season.
Ah I hate being skint. I preferred it when we were loaded but reluctant to buy as opposed to skint and desperate to buy.
3 CBs is enough. Harry is barely playing as it is and AWB has started 2/3 games more than I have for United this season. That’s 140m worth of back up that you’ve just accepted there!
You can sell these players and bring in appropriate back up as well, aren’t we linked with Frimpong for 20 odd million for that very purpose? Even Henderson on a loan is atrocious business
