Just want us fans to not lose our shit if we lose tomorrow. It’s not a “test of our progress”, it’s a 90 minute game that can always go either way. Our league position and cup performances ultimately determine how we’re doing.

Surely Martial was just left out midweek because we have a really busy schedule going forward?

There are different ways to lose a game, though. If we get turned over like last time, it would be disappointing, but if we lose narrowly, because City have more quality or sharpness on the day, that would be a different story.

It will be the performance, not the result that will really indicate how we have progressed.

Still can’t see how Ten Hag won’t play Bruno/Eriksen/Casemiro in midfield. I think Casemiro on his own can do a job to be fair. We won’t control possession for the whole game so everyone will have to work their socks off and hit them on the break.
That will be a disaster of a midfield and as good as Casemiro is, he can't run the whole midfield on his own. Eriksen's lack of defensive awareness really cost us last time in the derby. I hope we have the sense to solidify that midfield

Casemiro didn’t start in the last derby. That’ll be the difference.
No need to shut up shop against teams that come to OT. They’re off form so let’s stick it to them

Even though they aren't in good form, you have to respect the firepower and not be naive to the very present danger of an abolute hammering if they get going like in the first derby.

I'd play a 3-5-2 in this one to try to properly account for their primary threats, Haaland and De Bruyne.

    My team would be:
    De Gea
    Varane - Maguire - Martinez
    Dalot - Fred - Casemiro - Bruno/Eriksen - Shaw
    Martial/Antony - Rashford

This is the team that gives us the best chance to win IMO.

He wasn't seen in yesterday's training pictures so who knows.
I wouldn’t read too much into that though. DDG & Dalot weren’t seen in them either.

I guess we will just need to wait till ETH’s press conference this afternoon.

If Elanga starts we have no hope
I don’t know, I would not totally be against a front 3 of Rashford, Elanga, Weghorst.
Sounds ridiculous, but I still think that pace and physical strength might still be our best bet against them.
On the other hand I of course want to see progress, meaning we play our own style.

Also, against City anyone can get their arses handed to them. It doesn't negate all the good work ETH has done so far.

I'd take a draw if I could right now, it'll be a close game either way.

I can see EtH going with the following:

    ------------------ DDG -------------------
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    --------- Classemiro - Fred -----------
    Bruno ------- Eriksen ------ Elanga
    -------------- Rashford ----------------

    1-1

I don't mind losing this game, I really don't, as long as we give our all and don't get stomped like last time. That being said, feck them, let's win.

I certainly won't unless its another hammering. But yeah I consider our most important game over the next 3 to be the Palace game. Those are the games where we have no room at all for slip-ups IMO. City and Arsenal are just two games in 38. As long as we take care of business and beat the teams that we should be beating, we will be fine come end of the season.

I think it will be really close and we will give a good, solid account of ourselves. City's quality is just too superior though and I think they will come out on top, 2-1.

So I had a totally strange dream that I have to share. The game between us and City started by us dominating - creating chance after chance. Our first goal scorer was Danish tennis player - Rune. Rashford assisted him. Rune did not look like himself in my dream, totally different face but name on the jersey is for sure Rune and commentators in my dream were saying how this United player is also a top10 tennis player and they also said something like: "Imagine how good he would be if he only focused on football". Then for some reason I changed the channel, and when I went back City turned it around and were leading 1-3. feck. Their 3rd goal was weirdest sh1t ever: Silva (in my dream he is still playing for City) went for a curler from right edge of the box, De Gea saved it but the ball had odd spin to it. The ball hit the ground in front of De Gea and then bounced perfectly over him and into our goal. The game didn't finish in my dream so hopefully we turned it around and won 4-3. I was totally sober during this vivid dream.

First time for many years it's hard to predict how this game will play out.
Gotten so used to being backs against the wall against them.
    Really could go either way

Erik Tent Peg has got me feeling quietly confident about getting ine over City, the first time I felt like this against them for quite a while.

I just hope the team keeps their standards up, whilst City don't raise their game

No need to shut shop as such, but still feel eriksen is a defensive liability in a midfield 2.could consider moving him to a number 10 role and bruno on unt right considering that antony has hardly been setting the world alight for us

Yep, Eriksen will get outran unfortunately. I'd start Fred and maybe bring Eriksen on at 60ish if we need to change the game.

    Weghorst unavailable
    Dalot out
Martial trained but will be examined (so probably out)

Martial is the most unreliable center forward in terms of fitness and form that we've ever had. I'm thinking even saha was better

Martial has never been as close as good as Saha was in 2006-07.

Na if he trained then he’ll play.
AWB might have a good game v Grealish tomorrow, he hasn’t the movement ar the back post that AWB struggles against and doesn’t have the pace to get away. If he plays for fouls then AWB is the lst FB he’ll want to play against

No Dalot, Martial probably fine I'm guessing. So we're looking at:
    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Eriksen
    Antony Bruno Rashford
    Martial
Though I'd definitely start Fred somewhere in there.

Just saw the transcript of the press conference. Martial has a small knock on his leg but trained in the morning and they're just waiting to see how he reacts after the training session. Ten Hag added if he were to miss the City game, he'll be available for Palace on Wednesday.

He will probably play against City. Players play with small knocks all the time, heck knocks are par for the course.

If Martial is not available, and neither is Wout, then it will be Garnacho - Rashford - Antony attack, with Pellistri on the bench

Updated preferred line-up in light of the news:

    De Gea
    Varane - Maguire - Martinez
    AWB - Fred - Casemiro - Bruno/Eriksen - Shaw
    Garnacho - Rashford

If Martial isn't fit I'd go with:

    DDG
    AWB, Varane, Martinez, Shaw
    Casemiro, Fred
    Antony, Buno, Garnacho
    Rashford
If Martial is fit then bring in Martial for Garnacho with Rashford back out on the left.

Closer the game gets the more nervous I get. But I’m buzzing for this one! It’s weird considering the forms were always outsiders against them even being at home. Defo worth some money on us. Think we have a great chance of doing them tomoz! Let’s go reds!!!!
