The thing I find most surprising is McTom has been on United's books since he was 6 years old.

Fair result. Might have been different if we had Casemiro and didn’t play 3 days ago, but that’s not the case. It’s never nice to lose in the last minute but it felt way worse on Wednesday, we didn’t really deserve anything from that.

It’s all good staying positive but I can’t be the only one who has seen our level has dropped significantly the last 3 games. We won vs City with a good amount of fortune and then dropped points in the last minutes in our next 2 games. Each of these 3 games showed us playing a poor second half.
It’s very good the next 3 games are winnable cup games

Hope the xG goes a little way to providing a dose of reality to anyone who thinks we "played well" or deserved anything from that. They battered us in that second half.
xG would be the biggest joke meme in football in the last decade if VAR wasn't a thing

Some of you are spoiled brats.

Fantastic progress under ETH, and we all know he needs longer time, more investment/recrutment to be able to compete.

Think the last 20 minutes is today is simply down the lack of squad depth.

It's almost like Arteta hasn't had 150 odd games and a feck tonne of cash, to build his own side. Compared to ETH's, what, 8 months or so. Some of you need to cop the feck on.
This. We were without our most probably best player and played 3 games in 8 days (City being one of those games), while Arsenal were basically resting since Spurs game. Some ridiculous comments on here. We were at our very bottom only 8 months ago.

Lost to the better team and a side very likely to win the league. We’re getting there but massively missed Casemiro as McTominay and Eriksen in midfield are not it in a game like this.

Onwards and upwards.

Great game to watch today, but Arsenal did deserve it. Only one team winning it at the last there.

We looked good for large parts though, which is really pleasing. Also that’s our third match this week against arguably the hardest possible opponent and place (especially for United, when you look at the last couple years. Plus Casemiro being suspended…

It is frustrating seeing us lose momentum in the final 20 mins against both Palace and Arsenal, but it’s a shit ton better than the past few years of giving up entire second halves/simply not turning up! We have had feck all recovery time in Jan, I think we’ve done quite well and loving where we’re at. Top 4, a cup plus playing well for large parts and we’ll have had a cracking season,

Never gonna beat a team performing as well as Arsenal with McTominay in our midfield.

Wan Bissaka also reminding us today why we need an upgrade at RB as well.

Weghorst worked hard but just lacking top tier quality.

Three players that wouldn’t be anywhere near Arsenal’s starting eleven.

McTominay was useless.
AWB was awful on the ball.
Eriksen was too slow.
Fernandes was off the pace at times.

Yes. We did. And we lost to a team who's better coached at the moment. Arteta has had time which makes them a better team?

?? Of course they are better coached, he has had 4 years to work with them.
We will be fine
I think we are really well coached
It’s individual errors and the players not being good enough that’s the problem
Mctom Weghorst awb aren’t good enough
Antony I thought was decent 1st half but still growing

so no I don’t agree they are coached better, they have just had longer under 1 manager, had a full team, and a weeks rest

So a midfielder can never give away a free kick. Got it...sigh
Of course they can, but he actually does it quite a lot. I was as surprised as anybody that Fred didn't start, but as has been pointed out his best performances have been with Casemiro in the side as well, as against City. Fred alone would not have sorted out that midfield. Bruno is wasteful, Eriksen is exhausted and McTominay is McTominay. Wonder if we can twist Newcastle's arm to take him.

A good summer transfer away from challenging.

No complaints with the result they deserved it don't get the ETH bashing the bench was poor.

We move on.
That would imply the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool would still be as bad. We could have a good summer and not necessarily challenge for the title next year

So Im probably on the outside of general thinking.
We have some positions to improve on but the improvement has been massive. We have a resilience thats been missing for a while, we never looked like we were completely gone and winning that game wasnt our reach. 6 months in and I have genuine hope for the coming seasons. 3-2 loss away to the team looking likely to win it wasnt a loss which left me in despair, more with added hope.
Top 4 is now an expectation for me, at the beginning of the season I thought it would be top 6.

Their winner was always coming but it's a very frustrating result given that we went ahead.

ETH made a big mistake playing Casemiro during the week, and in the end it probably cost us 2 points.

And it's pretty obvious that Weghorst isn't the striker that's going to solve our scoring problems.

That and ever increasing pressure from a very good arsenal team.
Our defending was becoming more desperate.

Fred and Eriksen in midfield would have been a disaster. We've seen Fred as the DM for the team. Mctominay does nothing sure, but Fred legitimately grants space to the opposition. Against this Arsenal team, that would be insane.

I may have swapped off Waighorst for Garnacho later in the game, but I don't see any other move he could have made. Fans need to live the fact that we are what we are at the moment. A good team, with lots of good play, but lacks the depth to truly match City or Arsenal at the moment.

Exactly. We don't exactly have City's bench.

Xhaka, White, Gabriel, Ramsdale, Partey,Martinelli. None of them would start for us. They are just very very well coached. Arteta has done brilliant with this team and have made decent players like Partey, White and Xhaka look like quality. If given time ETH can do the same for us. ATM arsenal is just simply better coached because Arteta has had more time with his players. They ain't better than ours on paper

That doesn’t mean they are coached better just they’ve been coached longer
And I disagree I think atleast 2 of those make our team line up today
You can’t include the keeper to fluff up your list haha arteta doesn’t coach him

Agreed. Very telling that Trossard was involved in the winning goal. Would have been a good signing for us where we loan a player from Burnley.

re: the keeper, he might not be as good as De Gea as shot stopper, but he';s a hell of a lot better distributer

Not if palace beat us without playing Cas, we should of been a couple goals ahead and he would of come off

I'm surprised the amount of people saying Rashford had a good game. It's worrying the flashes of the old Rashford have come out last two games. Great goal aside today, he ran into dead ends constantly, giving the ball away, never passes and didn't track back at all from what I can remember.
Well said. It wasn't running into dead ends that bothered me as much as his general attitude.

That 50/50 with Ramsdale he put half a leg in where if won that challenge it's a goal. It's as if he is almost scared of being hit.

Most are. He is a bag of nerves with the ball at his feet.
De Gea should take a big chunk of the blame for the first goal, he played the ball to AWB who had nowhere to go and conceded a pointless corner, AWB fecks up badly at the corner but should never have been put in that position anyway

The only good thing is the Nketiah or howover you spell it is on my odd/even team!

A lot of spoiled child reactions I've seen today. They should hang their heads a lot of them with the disgraceful stuff they write on here at times.

We've got one of the best managers in the world who has taken us plenty forward in just 6-7 months. Brought us wins over Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Spurs etc. Has a 70% win rate over the season so far and is saying all the right things. Still not enough for some of our 'fans'

We could have definitely scrapped our way to the same 1 point without Casemiro in that match. The bigger worry was always Arsenal. With our luck what it is, as soon as I saw Casemiro on the team sheet I had a feeling he'd be getting suspended. And the moment he did it sealed the fate of today's match.

Genuinely pretty pleased with that, despite the loss. The progress we have made under ten hag is fantastic. Shame to lose of course but generally I feel so positive about the team.

We are exhausted. Wasnt there some game where citys bench was better than most teams starting 11. We only have a decent starting 11 and have no bench.

Thankfully we have an easy run of fixtures coming up so some players should get a rest. We badly need a better bench though.
