Honestly we've been riding our luck for a while now. I'm often accused of pessimism or negativity, but I genuinely don't think we've been playing well for a while now, and said as much before the game today. Yes we've ground out results and shown resilience and heart. But we've been outplayed by a number of pretty average teams in the first half, and it's simply not sustainable to keep winning when we can't control possession and we only have one reliable goalscorer.

The other thing is that we played without Casemiro tonight as he was terrible from the first minute and didn't look fit or focused, and without him we're basically back to Rangnick FC. Getting a good backup to him has to be a massive priority for us in the summer.
Don’t think that’s fair. We’ve been going for every competition with an unbalanced squad. Can’t always play champagne football.

Oh, we won the xG game, did we? Talk about embarrasing.
Which part of "Yes, we deserved to lose today but it's literally proven by the numbers that 7-0 doesn't at all reflect the true picture" did you not understand?

My post was about how xG suggested that this would've been a 3-1 on most days and this is just a freak result. Blaming the 7 goals on ETH is like expecting him to enter the pitch and stop the goals by himself. It's variance.

He has just called the players unprofessional, which they were but not once did he take any responsibility for his part

Hope this doesn’t break ETH like the Leicester result broke Van Gaal.

We need to treat this as a one off and move on. He made few big mistakes today. What was Bruno doing on the right? He wasn’t even helping out Shaw against Salah. We never doubled up against the wingers!

So poor all around

The main thing I want aside from a reaction of course and good result is for us to try and actively impose ourselves more on opponents. Chasing results in a congested period has made us more like our conservative former selves

No?
Those were 4 and 5 nillers. To lose 7 nil to a worse team is worrying.

However, I sort of agree that we can quickly forget this and get it going again on Thursday.
Genuinely not. This was a shock. Those results were inevitable. In isolation it’s worse but I’m confident he’ll get a response.

Nothing is going to be swept under the rug.He won’t do that.
I meant for us as supporters. I have no doubt he’s currently tearing into them and we’ll see a lot of other players get opportunities next game.

Really? Boehly got rid of CL winning Tuchel for Graham Potter.

We've had 3 such results this season. I guarantee Qatari owners will be watching that and thinking they will want their own man in. Look at PSG these feckers are fickle.

Sorry but how can you guarantee this, you in the loop, what the feck has Boehly got to do with anything,

If the owners are like this then god help us going ahead if they are reacting to one off games, and not the big picture.

Almost as if some fans are hoping for it. It'd pathetic to be honest

Good. It’s important he has full power right now to get these feckers in order.

I trust Ten Hag and the club can bounce back from todays car crash of a game
It is a wake up call today, team checked out after the 2nd goal

Yes, because xG tells you all you need to know about the shambolic defending in the second half.

They scored from half chances because we allowed them to play pinball in our box. The fact we've got away with it before doesn't meant today wasn't a shambles.

This is obviously not the right thread for it, since EtH gets a pass from me but this kind of statement is bloody pathetic.

I wonder, do you want to go back and find the xG for the Arse 8-2? Do you think that'll make Arse fans feel better?

Losing 7-0 against Liverpool is fecking inexcusable.

I think this game shows that if a few key players don't play to there best it underlines how fragile the rest of the team can be. If rashford isn't scoring then we lack goals and pretty much any sort of attacking outlet. If Martinez and varane are slightly off then our defensive game seems to fall apart. Our reliance one a few key players will end up hurting us but that isn't the fault of the manager, we need to recruit well again in the summer and utilise the squad more throughout the season. We play pretty much without a proper no9 currently.

How do you actually come back from a 7-0 against Liverpool? I was taking the piss earlier but what can he actually do? Like, is there actually any coming back from this? He'd have to win a Prem for me to forgive him for this.

ETH is going to have to take some stick for this. You can’t lose 7-0 to Liverpool.

Today was a failing of his players and not him though.
The team was unorganized and obviously threw the plan out the window. ETH did not set the team up to play the way they did. That said, ultimately his responsibility and he will show it to us in the coming days. Expecting us to come into the Betis game ready for blood.

That’s the plan in 1-2 seasons…

It worked for 95% of the first half to be fair when we were the better team.
We still faced a lot of pressure at our goal area throughout the first half from kickoff. We might've had a few more shots on target but it was tame stuff. Only Pools wild messing up the shots and passes around our box helped us out, when this all started clicking for them the pressure they had all game took us to the cleaners.

I recall Bruno going out wide vs Palace, we were looking good at 1-0 before he moved out wide then we came under a lot of pressure, Bruno and Case messed up in each other space, he got booked, missed Arsenal and we conceded a late goal to Palace.

Holding our own to Arsenal and then Bruno goes wide for the latter part of the game, we then face immense pressure and lose a late goal and lose 3-2.

Not only that but ETH has acknowledged how good and hard working Bruno has done in the middle during the season. He should never be starting wide left against Pool away. TAA should be facing Rashford.

With Case not looking comfortable in today's match, ETH should've sorted out the midfield in the first half, should've changed at 3-4nil.

Dalot has been poor since coming back, AWB is the player in form and shown it again in the last match.

So many mistakes in setup leads to 7-0. Limping Case, Fred and Weghorst? Bruno wide left, No AWB.

What xG tells you is what the most likely score would've been if you simulated this game a lot of times (let's say 100 or 1000) with the exact same goal-scoring chances occuring for both teams every single time...and it suggests that most of the time we would've lost this 3-1...which is still bad, because we deserved to lose, and it's even worse because it's against Liverpool...

But I'm still excusing ten Hag, because what can a manager do other than giving his team the best possible chances of winning the game? Now you can go and debate whether that's what happened or not, I'm not gonna go into the starting XI and all that...what I'm trying to get you to understand is that it's not ten Hag's fault that we conceded 7 instead of 3.

Said 3 or 4 times now but his insistence on starting wout could be his downfall this season, wout was not the worse player for us today but he offers so little threat to the opposition every game other than willing to run a lot

I’ll start with a seemingly needed disclaimer that I don’t want him sacked and happy how the season has gone.

He has to take responsibility in this too though, I get the settling the crowd at Anfield idea but the slow time wasting from goal kicks from the off seemed awful, why didn’t we go at them.

Bruno on the left I didn’t understand, dalot starting, he may be better going forward but if our plan was to just sit and try long balls then surely AWB would be better.
Weghorst at ten, I do like how he runs around and closes down but that’s not the game we were playing. We just camped most of the first half even we did have a look of control and better chances.

And 7-0 to Liverpool, bizarre.

He’s earned the right for this to be swept under the rug for now. There are clear weaknesses in the team and I think he’s done well to mostly mask them so far this season.

This summer we have to find a GK, RB, CM and CF with the latter being absolutely paramount.
Agree with these positions but we also need a competent rw. Unfortunately despite all the money spent we don't have that

I hope ETH will try sancho and pellistri there sometimes because Antony playing every minute looks a little like favouritism

Agreed, he made some significant tactical mistakes today. Not giving rashfrod a go against taa one I would add to the list

And then bringing garnacho on when the game was done seemed a bit naive. He gave the ball away constantly. Realistically we just needed to stem the flow at that point

You’re nowhere near as funny as you think you are with these sarcastic parody posts. And if you’re serious then that’s much worse (for you).

Questions do need to be raised about allowing 13 goals to our 2 biggest rivals away. Is this gonna be a normal thing? I get playing at liverpool has never been good to us but it's never been 7-0 bad.
One thing about Erik is, he is a fast learner.

He will have seen cracks in certain players mentality and skillset today that he will not forget.

We will improve. But the squad needs work.

Can only see this if ETH decides to sell Antony. Otherwise I think he will get another season and Amad / Sancho will provide depth. It’s fine we have bigger issues to resolve

Yes but nowhere near as much as shifting everyone around just to fit in Weghorst, somehow. What the feck was Fernandes doing at LW to accommodate Weghorst at #10?

At least with Antony you can say it's his big transfer signing so he won't give up on him easily. But Weghorst?

I love how Anthony keeps the ball and gets us up field, also love his passion and determination. But for the love of god I wish he’d go on the outside Atleast once, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him beat a man on the outside and go on a run. It’ll get easier to defend against.
Hoping he improves this with time.

Once today is over the only relevant 7 tomorrow is that he’s 7 clear of Liverpool in his first season in March, which is embarrassing for the likes of Souness who proclaimed them as the best PL team in history less than a year ago.

Next time he need to realize AWB should be deployed in away big games.

Also being able to take some responsibility after the lost.
