Is today going to be the overriding memory of this season?

Even if we do the cup treble, looking back is this still going to be the season that we had 7 put past us by Liverpool?

It won't override any satisfaction or memory, but as its a record it'll get remembered and mentioned whether we like it or not.

It’s going to be hard to avoid, a major blip, ultimately we will win more League Cups in the future, we might never lose to Liverpool 7-0 again and be that humiliated. It may last longer in history. Still though the reaction is important in how it’s viewed, as part of a collapse or as a one off if we get back to our previous form.

Unfortunately yes.

Which is bloody frustrating because next week we will go back to fighting for trophies on 4 fronts and they will go back to getting turned over by Wolves.

Not for me if we continue to win games. Depends on the team's reaction I guess

Handing them their mojo back is the most annoying about all of it. Saved their season. Well done.

I think that while we may win more trophies and get into the CL via top 4 or Europa (or both) and ultimately feel it was a successful first season, this and the shitshow at the Etihad will leave a lingering doubt going into the summer. Which may not be a bad thing as these muppet owners may hang around and they always need a kick up the hole to justify spending money.

It's not even really the 2 games at Anfield and Etihad. We lost 13-3 on aggregate. Frighteningly, it's the 1st half at City and the 2nd half today - 90 minutes, 10-0. It's shocking how this team have such utter brainfarts in them.

Depends, if we end up not finishing top 4 then yes, because this will be remembered as the point where things went wrong, assuming we do finish top 4 then no it won't. And if we actually get sold, I'd imagine finally being rid of the Glazers will be the overriding memory of this season, beyond any on field stuff

Ah so in 10 years time, you'll be like - lads remember 22/23, the season we finished top 4

The 5-0 defeat to Chelsea is all that I remember from the year 1999.

Depends on the rest of the season. We'll have opportunities to put this right or at least to pile on some better memories.

Maybe for Liverpool. But if we continue to win games and perhaps another trophy and get new owners, why would it be the overriding memory for us?

The desperation to try and have hot takes on here is a bit weird.

Yes definitely

We’re still only on 19 titles because it didn’t count that year Liverpool beat us 4-1

When we hold the mickey mouse treble bus parade we'll all be there. We won't be wearing scarves or shirts, we'll only be holding signs saying "7-0". Don't let the players or staff be happy that day. Let them know the pain they inflicted on us. Let them know that this will never be forgiven.

Doubt it. Only if the whole season goes to shit.

As long as we make top 4 and maybe get another trophy then this game is somewhat irrelevant

No. Little worried perhaps if our players get affected mentally but it shouldn't.

Do people think about getting battered by Brentford or City as the overriding moments or the wins vs Newcastle and Barcelona?

Most sensible people are more likely to remember it as ETHs first season, the one where we won a trophy and hopefully finished in the top 4 rather than the SEVEN NIL YEAR NOOO

No.

The Glazers fecking off will be. It will change the course of the club. Its going to be as big a moment as winning the treble for me. Them leaving is infinitely bigger than any one game of football.

Perception is reality. More people need to understand that in football. This is a massive L for us. We’ve saved their season.

Winning the cup treble might erase it from top memory.

But more than likely it will be for most supporters , I really don't understand Man Utd supporters who say they are not bothered by losing to Liverpool.

Losing 7 - 0 to them of all teams is a humiliation that will remembered for many years , and not just by Liverpool./Utd supporters, even last night I was talking to couple of Liverpool fans going on endlessly about last seasons 5 -0. In my wildest dreams I never thought it could or would ever get worse than that.

At least then we knew it was end of days stuff for Ole's reign and we knew there would be a reboot. But it feels like a real sucker punch to get hammered like that again.

But then again if we go on and get top 4 and win another cup or two and they don't make top 4 the 7- 0 will be meaningless by the end of the season.

Who the hell still remembers the 5-0 trashing we got from the hands of newcastle in 96/97 Or Soton 6-3 victory over us in 96/97?
or Chelsea’s 5-0 beating of us in 99/00?

If we manage to win the cup treble it would be one of our greatest ever seasons, absolutely legendary!

That said I’m not very confident anymore, this was an unforgivable result

Not sure how leaky roofs contributed to this result

No. I remember Martin O'Neills first season as Celtic Manager. He won the treble and it was an amazing season. In the November of that season Celtic went to Ibrox and got beat 5-1, it could have been 10-1 and Rangers totally outclassed Celtic that day. It meant nothing.

Today will only mean something if Liverpool finish in the top four and we don't. It was a car crash, the players will come back from it, probably starting on Thursday night.

I fully expect a title challenge next season, today will be a lesson that will help that challenge.
