United fixtures left

Southampton (H)
Newcastle (A)
Brentford (H)
Everton (H)
Forest (A)
Chelsea (H)
Spurs (A)
Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Wolves (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Fulham (H)
Brighton (A)

So 7/13 are at home. 7/13 are against teams that are currently lower half of the table. No games left against the 3 hardest teams in City/Arsenal/Liverpool.

It would be an epic bottle job to throw it away from here.

7 wins and 6 losses would get us 70 points which would very likely be enough.

I am worried now though that Liverpool will overtake us as they'll have less fixture congestion with no FA cup or European games.

Can't trust us in any away game so vital we pick up lots of points at home. Next Sunday is a must win to get back on track.

Liverpool have 6/13 at home and 7 away.

They have 6 top half teams and 7 bottom half.

Liverpool still to play City and Arsenal.

We should be able to keep them at arms length considering our fixture advantage and 7 point lead we have at the moment.

I just worry fixture congestion is going to feck us. And it would be typical of Liverpool to go on a run to rescue top 4 like they did a couple of years ago.

To be honest I don't trust us in any game given we find it so difficult to win a game convincingly. Recent home games against Leeds and Palace show anything to can happen even at OT against relegation candidates.

You lot.

Liverpool loses their next 4 games.
Goes out against Real, loses against City, Arse and Chelsea.
Miss out on top 4.

City loses against Burnley in the FA cup.
Arsenal loses against Sporting in EL.

Treble of cups and a third place guaranteed.

I know what you mean. Very fortunate to come away from the two Leeds games and Palace at home with 7 points.

Spurs have 6/12 at home and 6 away.

7 against lower half teams and 5 top half.

They don't have to play City/Arsenal.

Spurs have better fixture list remaining than Liverpool then. I'd still fancy Liverpool over them but it's not a formality.

The only thing those games say is that it is hard to keep up a very big winning run. You will run into tricky games where things don't go your way. Our form since losing against City 33 games played, 25 wins, 5 losses, 3 defeats. Ten Hag is having something like the best season ever for a Man United manager in terms of win percentage. We have won plenty of games convincingly, maybe not 5-0 games but plenty by 2 or 3 goals and routine wins.

 fecking hell rewriting history now. How were we fortunate? Dominated Palace at home until a red card put it in risk, but we had a 2 goal lead before the red. 4 points between those 2 Leeds games were fair. In one game, we dominated them and created enough to win comfortably, but they scored the few chances they had so we got a draw. The other game we played like shit but scored the goals to win while they didn't. 7 points from those 3 games, played without Casemiro, was very fair on balance.

4 clear of 4th with a game in hand, 7 clear of 5th. City, Liverpool and Arsenal all out of the way. 7 home games to come.

We will be 10 clear of 5th place come the end of the season IMO.

3rd or 4th no difference, I can’t see two teams passing us. 4th and no more cups is a great season. More than we expected in the summer. 4th and another cup, something to enjoy and celebrate. If Liverpool finish well so be it, we are on a much better trajectory than them. Everything just ran out of steam today.

If Utd pass up top four with the fixtures remaining then that would be a very Spursy way of fecking up a season. Bad results like today happen, ebery so often, to teams that aren't competing for the titl; which Utd aren't.

Good post. It's not exactly a dreadful set of fixtures, the only problem I see is squad rotation/fatigue with the extra games. I do hope some of our squad players step up when we need them and hopefully Erikson will be back soon.

The mood can change drastically every week...it can't get any worst than last game!

Plus Liverpool have a nightmare run of games City/Chelsea/Arsenal so they should enjoy this week while they are on a high.

so people think that, despite only 2 defeats in the last 22 games, we are suddenly going to lose 5 or 6 of the remaining league games because we got one big beating?

i think players like Bruno, Varane, Casemiro, Shaw, Rashford, Antony, Garnacho and even Fred, will be desperate to put this right in the next 2-3 games. Beating Southampton is obviously now a far bigger game than had we drawn or won yesterday, but if we beat Southampton, then we're right back on track.

The worrying this is how many players look tired/fatigued.

I still think 4th is Newcastle's to lose. They have the easier set of fixtures.

If we resume our normal perfomances we should get around 30 points from those fixtures.

United should cruise to third fairly comfortably given their lead and remaining fixture list. The only thing that gives me a little pause is the absurd number of minutes logged already by some big players combined with the possibility of being in three competitions until the very end. Even so, I think United end up on 73-76 points and its quite comfortable for them in the end.

Eddie Howe needs to shuffle the pack and find a different way of creating chances because Newcastle look a bit found out right now. They relied on being the most energetic team in the league for 12 months plus hot streaks from the likes of Almiron and that's just not sustainable. Unless somebody like Isak starts really firing I just don't see them keeping pace.

Spurs versus Liverpool for the last spot seems a toss up to me. Spurs have the easier fixtures but Liverpool's top level is higher if they find some combination of form and health and the six pointer between them is at Anfield.

Newcastle won't finish 4th, they'll do well to finish 5th or 6th the way they're playing and they're not scoring goals.

Without Almiron having that freakish hot streak they'd be around 8th now.

It's in our hands and the hardest games are all gone now.

3rd or 4th and let's try for another cup.

This is our remaining league fixture list....All the home games are winnable with on paper the toughest probably being Chelsea but Brentford and Fulham won't be pushovers

Two challenging away fixtures at newcastle and at spurs....if we can take max points at home, top 4 shouldn't be a concern as that would put us on 70 points. nick a couple of away wins and focus on Europa title.

i think let's see how we bounce back against Betis midweek in the europa match and soton on the weekend in the league....if we come through both with flying colors, the fulham FA Cup match IMO we just put out some of the younger kids and just focus on Europa and the league. Lads...we saw what fighting on 4 fronts did to the dippers last season. It's just not sustainable in modern football.

March 12th Soton
April 2nd @Newcastle
April 5th Brentford
April 8th Everton
April 15th @forest
April 22nd Chelsea
April 27th @Spurs
April 30th Villa
May 6th @WestHam
May 13th Wolves
May 20th @Bournemouth
May 28th Fulham

Yup and the fact that we couldn't put Leicester to the sword after they'd fallen apart was even worse. That was a genuine 7-0 game, and we ended up with a pathetic 3-0 win

I honestly don't care that much about if we finish 3rd or 4th, I would rather focus on cups as we have some real chance of silverware. There is no trophy finishing above Liverpool, which should still be a better team than current United. We HAVE to get the top 4 though.

I think we will comforteably get 3rd/4th with our run of games, unless Casemiro and others are fecked physically, then I can easily see us slip out.

Newcastle have been done for weeks. I called it in January that they weren’t finishing top 4 but there was some weird hysteria surrounding them that had people panicking. Literally they’re just a better Chelsea this season. Can’t score for shit and then being hard to score against has now worn off to a point. if they hadn’t beaten Fulham in January they’d be in even worse place, reckon Brighton will finish above them by the end.

What is evident is that they’re very hard to play against because they’re well organized but the team is 95% the same one that had to fight multiple relegation battles over the years. They’ve had a brilliant season even if they end up 8-10th but they need to bring up the quality of that squad, it’s actually fecking abysmal.

Liverpool might have battered us yesterday but they've been average all season. That's the problem with football fans, especially the online ones - teams go from "amazing" to "OMG worst team in the world" in the space of 3-4 days.

It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if Liverpool dropped points away at B'Mouth and then struggle against Arsenal etc.

Recency bias is too strong in here right now.

I'm just so fecking pissed that we were unable to ruin their chances for top 4. Two seasons ago under Ole it was the same thing. These bunch of bottlers and their dogshit mental strength.

Spurs were done when they lost Bentancur and Bissouma for the season, Newcastle started strong but seem to be in a bit of a rut at the moment.

Surely Liverpool catch cannot catch United? 7 points the gap, same amount of games played.

7 points in 13 games is nothing, could easily be caught.

I’m amazed reading posts saying top four is sewn up now and lowest priority and we should go for cups. The team look spent and they did so before we got mauled on the weekend. Westham, Leeds, Newcastle, Leicester all troubled us and out played us for large parts just recently.

It’s a process and we don’t need to be going for every cup in the first year, too four is vital to help with summer signings and getting a good champions league campaign next year, let’s wait untill we’re more settled with a better squad before chasing every cup and running the team in to the ground for the league. Go for the cups by all means but not with our strongest eleven every time.

7 points is a lot. Especially when the two rivals in Brighton and Liverpool have to play the top two 4 times between them.
Liverpool v Spurs is another fixture that plays into our hands.
It’s almost impossible for two teams to overtake us if we simply won our home games on their own

That’s reassuring.

j just don’t want that 7 to become 4 and then 1 and then a squeaky bum time final few games, we’ve done too well this year to let that happen.

If we concede first in our next league game, we need to show the fight to comeback and win. That's the way to get back on track. That's what Arsenal did after their bad week.

agreed...mentioned taht earlier if we just win our home matches that should be enough to guarantee a top 4 finish and CL football next season. Our home fixtures are all very winnable matches...Chelsea being the most difficult home fixture left

It’s been a very good season for EtH and the coaching staff to learn about the squad.

United are still playing the maximum number of games possible in all competitions. So they are being tested in every way possible.

Still very much on course for CL qualification next season.

Our league games remaining are:
  • Southampton (h)
  • Brighton (a) postponed
  • Newcastle (a)
  • Brentford (h)
  • Everton (h)
  • Forest (a)
  • Chelsea (h) - will probably be postponed
  • Spurs (a)
  • Villa (h)
  • West ham (a)
  • Wolves (h)
  • Bournemouth (a)
  • Fulham (h)
Its really not a hard run to end the season. Our problem has been away games against top half and mid table sides basically. It's actually really bad but we've only beaten Fulham (last minute winner) away to a top 12 team. Have just 3 more to play, Spurs, Newcastle and brighton. We're at a 71% win rate in all comps and 60% in the league, hell even if we only win 6 or 7 of the next 13 games and win around 50%, just the wins alone would have us at 67 to 70 points. It's unlikely that the other top 4 chasers will pass 70 points, let alone 2 of them pass it while we play so badly that we only end on 70. We have 6/7 piss easy games on paper that should be comfortable wins, and then another 6 that you could argue are tough. We won't lose all of those, so I'd guess it's more likely we get close to 80 points to end the season. Can easily see 25-30 points from those fixtures, which puts us on 74-79 points, which would likely be a comfortable 3rd.

Not to take away from them, but Arsenal are having one of these seasons that a team will have once every few seasons where everything just falls for them perfectly.

They'll probably go to Anfield when Salah, Gakpo and Nunez are all out
